Call Carey's AC he'll get you sorted out quick and has helped many RDP inmates over the years.

$1250 to replace a blower fan and the module that runs it and something on the disconnect is screwed up to. I don't know if this is reasonable or not I have an AC friend here in Vegas that usually does all my stuff and I trust him

$1250 for a fan and module? Fan is maybe $100
Can't you buy a entire condensing unit for that?

Jason started his own biz and has been very prompt and gets the job done

He said blower fan and module so I would assume its the main board as most only have one control board. Sounds about right.

Myself and all that have used Cool Wave have been pleased with prices and work. Has to be something, he answered the phone and was there 2-3 hours later.

That’s about average for that repair like that. He made his money and didn’t really do perform unnecessary work to drive up the ticket.

For reference our average blower motor repair runs 600 ish. And our average control board runs 600ish.

Didn't realize Havasu contractor (AC or otherwise) pricing had risen to So Cal rates, historically it's always been less. Although I admit it's been awhile since I've had any big ticket parts replaced on my heat pump.

I see it different......100+ degree day, same day service and repair. I would say he is not charging enough. This isn’t a run of the mill, preventative maintenance call and you find a motor high amping, this was an emergency get my shit running today call. I’m sure if someone was looking for a deal they could have told the guy to hold off and fix it in the off season when it’s cheaper. [emoji6]

I see it different..... prices are adjusted accordingly to outside temps?
Hurricane coming in. Charge $5 for a bottle of water. heck make it $7 it's a disaster and people need it now

In seasonal businesses there most definitely a difference in pricing between peak season and off season pricing. Call any AC company in the south west and ask AC pricing in January. Then make the same call in July. [emoji6]

All of my friends and customers that want AC work done in Havasu or Parker know they will have to wait until our off season for us to do work for them. On occasion I get that call asking what it would take to get out there during peak season, they always decide waiting is a better option.

Got to a cut your own Christmas tree farm in July and go any time between thanksgiving to Christmas..... you think there will be a pricing difference? [emoji6]

Seasonal businesses? In Havasu?
Does Culvers ice cream lower their prices in the winter? no
Does the rv business raise their prices in the winter? no
Does your prescription go up in the winter? no

Have you ever rented a house on a holiday weekend and then rented the same house on an off weekend? Like it or not that’s the nature of many businesses ina vacation/resort town like Havasu. You might not like it or agree with it, but that’s the reality. [emoji6]

For the record we kept our pricing the same through the summer including absorbing many of the pricing increases from the tariffs. But we also have a consistent work load and really don’t have an “off” season. It’s more of a less busy season. If you really believe the demand for AC service and repair is consistent in Havasu throughout the year and there are no peak times. You might want to do some homework [emoji6] if my guys are booked up and we are turning away work and a customer calls and isn’t worried about price and needs service ASAP. We will accommodate them, that’s the nature of business.

WTH you use parts from overseas. I am shocked to say the least. You should only sell and use carrier parts as the president solved that issue :)

Actually most of our systems are Amana which is 100% American made. But the tarrifs have affected raw materials which resulted in an average of 10% increase on equipment.

That is actually a great response. Costs will go up if you want things made in the US. As they should.

So back to the topic of this thread. Who is a good guy to call for AC work in LHC? I've heard many good things about Carey. I intend to call Carey next time we have AC needs. I still believe good service comes at a price. Charge it, then don't over inflate parts when you fail to properly bill for your service. Yep, it's all dollars. But, intelligent billing should be an important part of any business.

I've posted about interactions with my A/C guy a couple of times. We have a good relationship, and if I have a question about a repair or the cost, we can have an on-the-level discussion and resolve it in a friendly manner.

Several months ago his tech burned up the blower motor in the AHU of my 5 ton unit. He miswired the motor after replacing a bad relay. Certainly my knowledge had a part in the outcome, because I knew what had happened.

Motors don't burn up when being energized after a related component is changed unless something was done incorrectly. I didn't say anything to the tech at all. The next morning I sent him an email saying if he just asked the tech what happened I thought he would get the truth, and that was the result.

It was nice there were no accusations, no acrimony, the kid kept his job, and they swallowed the cost for the error.

I value my relationship with the guy, and he knows I'll always be a customer.

As a homeowner in Las Vegas, Before I upgraded my 19 year old rooftop AC units - qty 2. I had to replace the compressor cooling fan at least every other year in one of the units. Retail cost of the fan motor is less than $200. I think the module they are talking about is called a "Starter Capacitor" cost around $10.00. Wiring the fan backwards is only done to change the direction of rotation of the fan which changes the direction of air flow thru the cooling coils, no big deal. Being a homeowner the first issue is having enough smarts to replace the fan motor and secondly "joe homeowner" must find out were to buy said motor. I am a retired computer engineer so after some googling and some Youtubeing, it was an easy job, but being a rank HVAC amateur it took me maybe 3 hours to complete, and that included locating and buying the fan motor. But in 100 degree heat, and a hot wife bitching at you, I think I would pay someone else to fix.
