I remember reading here that Havasu was getting a drag strip. Is it still happening, or did those plans fall apart?

From what I understand havasu will be getting the drag strip once @LargeOrangeFont gets his speed car and @RiverDave builds out the rack storage. In all honesty I haven’t heard anything about a drag strip but that would be awesome.

SummitKarl was posting about it, been a few years ago I think. A group of investors had purchased land out by 95 & I40, off the frontage road by Franconia. Not sure what transpired, but I don't recall any updates.

I seem to remember a few years ago that one was going in near the airport. There were even people running around town with shirts and hats supporting it.
Haven't seen anything about it for awhile.

This is the latest I've heard also.

This idea for an NHRA major track may be a hard sell as Las Vegas is just growing larger. The track is excellent, nad has 4 Wide, on next weekend. And NASCAR is at the same facility. The parking lot is often used by other teams, driver training too. With the land they have an off read track is possible too.

that auto sports park that was talked about off the 40 sounded pretty awesome but it went pretty quiet. Hopefully its still in the works

Havasu would be an ideal location to host the NHRA now that Firebird raceway is no longer available. “If you build it, they will come.”
this is just funny, no way in hell NHRA has an event in havasu. They will build another track somewhere first before that happens

A small local track in Havasu would be fantastic. The investment and area needed for an NHRA sanctioned track is more than anyone is gonna do near Havasu and as Boat PI said, Vegas is close and growing. Last week during the AZ Nats i got to spend the day in the NHRA Pres suite and thr was alot of chatter on this topic. My friend Tami and her family own Bandimere outside Denver and when talking to her about what is required to host an NHRA event is alot. My friend Alan is also an NHRA announcer and he says NHRA is saddened by the Wildhorse closure. Apparently the land deal that the tribe had with the govt for the I-10 improvement has fallen thru and the tribal council wants to keep the track however there is one female council member who apparently has a stronger vote than all others combined and she wants it gone. There was also some chatter of building a track up by Talking stick near Westworld.

Ardy would be a shoe in with all the people here on rdp to vote for him.

Is the gay guy still the mayor?

ADOT cut a 50M dollar check and the tribe accepted payment. Chatter about building up Tucson (plenty of parking) or building a track in Casa Grande. Nonetheless, Wildhorse is closed.

What's so strange about Wildhorse pass and the Indians to me is, I've never seen an Indian tribe give up their land for city, county or state nowadays. Tribes are either keeping or declaring more tribal land. Just strange!

Even street racing? 🤣
A few years ago they were going to close down a portion of Lake Havasu Blvd for some eighth mile or less, but that never happened, insurance and safety got in the way.

We got us some Injuns where I live but they gave up their canoes for flats. They are for the most part peaceful that is until they break out the whiskey! :)

@Wheeler I have had a lot of people ask me to run for mayor in this town. I doubt I’ll ever get into politics.. but if I was going to I’d probably make a run at the school board to try and fix what’s going on in our high school.

Quite contrary to your posts though I’m neither vain nor in constant need of attention despite the fact I do get a lot of it for a variety of reasons.

Not sure why you constantly feel the need to post that sort of thing.

Doesn’t have to be a big facility to gather interest and NHRA Affiliation. In fact, with Vegas close by, a smallish 1/8-mile track that could attract a local group of hot rodders and bracket racers for a spring series and some fall events might be perfect.
If the Havasu area had a drag strip, you’d have a tough time keeping the For Sale signs off of my place in gloomyville.

He just told me he's joining a club that races on Chuckwalla on the regular. Both drag and road course stuff.

Just shut down a road in town for a no prep drag race series hosted by the city and invite discovery channel to film it. Instant success and nothing needed other then portable grand stands

Exactly. And bullhead sucks.

Make an event Dave. Hell look at pikes peak race. They don’t even have a track. They shut down a national park road
