It seems to me that the internet and all its fucked up algorithms is turning into a pile of never ending monetized shit. You try and search for anything it’s just an endless string of digital panhandlers trying to make a buck offering services for a fee that can usually be done for little to no money if you go right to the source. I’m getting pretty fed up with muddling through this endless line of monetized bullshit. If you search for a resource all of the top listing are just paid bullshit now, then you have to weed through a bunch of websites to find one that is actually of value for what you are looking for.

I can see why people just hire secretary’s and other people/services to go jack off on the internet for them and waste their lives going down the rabbit hole of monetized bullshit. I’d be willing to pay good money for a non monetized internet (wrap your melon around that one) where real people can get real shit done without all the bullshit in the way.

Just spent 2 hours trying to register an account with the Secretary of State to file some $5.00 deal thats gonna cost $1000 to have some dickhead do for me because I’m now caught in a purgatory of account establishment verification loop from hell😂

when all else failed in the past you could always hop on YouTube and find some information, now it’s 3 commercials and then a couple minutes pitch about liking my content so I can keep doing this and not get a real job before you find out that the person is a dip shit and you go back and start over again with some other dipshits content.

Thoughts?

I'll be happy to comment on this but first let me tell you about this Keto Gummy Health Drink I have been using to loose about 30 lbs a week. It's very tasty and extremely easy to use with our new Magic Man blender and our Health Mate pure spring Keto Water. More on that later.

The fat burn is intense, along with my Kidneys, Liver, and my Stomach lining...all burning. I feel like fire after I drink just one ounce.

See it all started some years back when....

Lookup 'Dead Internet Theory'

run uBlock Origin in Firefox and you will never see a youtube ad, ever. If you have an iPhone, sorry, you're fucked, Apple blocked the ability to running browser plugins that circumvent their ability to gouge you for micro-payments

Internet is a broad description. I still find it fantastically useful regardless of the shitbags. It is just representative of life and culture, only magnified. You could say the same for the phonebook, billboards, and public transportation. Capitalism requires the imagination to monetize everything.

You can't argue that having an unlimited amount of resources in your pocket is not useful when your check engine light goes on and your truck goes into limp mode for a $25.00 sensor in your transmission pan.

YouTube in itself has turned into massive click-bait. The same general group of dumbasses seem to populate the home page with crap no one would ever care about in a normal world.

Sure you can search for content, and find some legit videos, but go further down your search results and the asshattery creeps back in.

If the internet is too fucked up to be of any use I just won’t do whatever it is I was trying to look up.

Remember the days where you’d spend hours on the phone calling every contact you had looking for a part that had been discontinued 20 years ago and finding it? It was like hitting a hole in one.

YouTube has turned into a dumpster fire. Can still find some useful stuff on there if you know how to search, but like you mentioned… it is flooded with ads, their algorithms will show you what they want to show first before you land on what you’re looking for. Tons of content out there that is click bait and useless for the information you were seeking, but the “content creator” is just trying to make bank bro!

Just like the real world in a way… lots of guys out there willing to charge you top $ to fix your car, but they barely know what they’re doing and don’t really fix your car.

The world in general has sort of gone the route of that movie Idiocracy where everything is some sort of marketing pitch everywhere you look.

YouTube has recently changed their filters and algorithms now to where any video discussing anything medical related that doesn’t align with the WHO will be filtered down several pages, making harder for people to get the content they’re searching for. They will mostly find the content that their government and their doctor regurgitate constantly. Trying to find out about the keto diet? Here are 10 videos from the Mayo Clinic telling you how it’s dangerous and you’ll be dead in 10 weeks lol.

💯

It's ALL about getting in your pocket, and telling whatever lies they have to, to accomplish that!

I have my website clients contacting me constantly...

Them: Hey do I need to pay this? It says my domain is expiring!?!

Me: Nope, it's a scam. I paid it for you.

Them: WordPress wants to charge me, do I need to pay this bill they sent me?

Me: WordPress is free. It's a scam.

Them: Hey this company just scanned my website, and they said it needs a lot of work to be compatible with Google!

Me: Of course they did. How do you expect them to make a living? Your site already 100 percent compatible with Google. It's a scam.

Them: Hey, I'm gonna pay this company BIG money to make me number one on Google. Can you work with them?

Me: Sure!

Me to the company: What exactly are you going to do?

The Company: Oh we are gonna do X, Y and Z, and 1 through 10!

Me: Ummm, all that stuff has been done already. So let me know what else you plan to do?

Them: Crickets

The lies, scams and hackers and fraudsters Never stop. It's a full time job fending them off. It's nuts.

The Internet has been fully monetized.

Finding legitimate reviews is impossible too. There’s a lot of AI generated sites meant to look real that are so easy to spot. It’s all garbage.
This is a pain in the ass. I just had to buy a new fridge and looked up all the reviews I can find. So all over the board, some seem like bullshit. Seems like the only place to get an honest review on this stuff might be Consumer Reports but it costs money. But I don't even know if that's true anymore.

Same here x25. The lion's share of "PPC and SEO consultants" are incompetent and/or scammers. I have an acquired business website that is using one of these and they are 3 years behind. The business unit leader is having a cow that I plan to fire them at the end of the year.

Or are they? Ihe really good ones you would never spot…. As far as you know, I am an AI account…. Which is exactly what an AI account might say to make you think it wasn’t AI… or is it?

Try considering that after a micro dose….

Pay to play search results make it difficult to weed thru stuff alot of the time. That's what makes this forum great - it's like a peer group of like minded people who cultivate good products, suggestions, sources and have sound advice.

Except on what truck you need for towing a 3000lb utility trailer.....or what prop to run.....or getting to the bottom of airplanes on treadmills......

I am old enough to remember when the internet was a free for all of useful information. Then the realization that people can make money on the internet happened. Outside of actual forums like this it’s a sea of bullshit. Let’s face it there’s plenty of that here and on other forums as well. At least most of us here share common interests and there is a wealth of information on this site and the few others still out there like this one. What I’m saying here is I’m also sick and tired of wading through ads and AI generated bullshit just to lead me to answers from people who know just as little about my search subject as I do. It’s a real piss off sometimes. That said I have found lots of useful info on the interwebs over the years. Thanks for the information RDP! Thanks for fighting for a real internet site Dave!

So…the complaint is about the inconvenience of free online resources?

Lol
95% of the most complaints are, in fact, self inflicted by way of simply doing it wrong.

No shit 😂.

All this is free. You are either the product or getting exactly what you paid for.

Learning to find accurate information quickly is probably a skill that you need to relearn every few years in modern life.

This is spot on. I have a couple hundred subscriptions and YouTube might show two in my feed of 100's of others along with the corporate bullshit.

Certainly was better before it was purchased by Google.

I think "the internet" is one of the most perfect examples of technology to come around since man figured out how to handle fire, and that fire was good, but you can burn your hut down with you in it if not careful.
The bad is very, very bad, and the good is good. Is that a wash when it comes to the net?
No. We have incredible tools for good in our world today. I don't think we use them well.
I know that the evil child of "the internet" which is commonly called social media, is without a doubt, a huge contributor to the downfall of civilization.
I remember as a kid when my Dad called the TV the "Idiot Box". I wonder what he would call the internet...
He passed in 1983. He was 56.
If you are old enough to remember 1983, or enough of a student of history to be able to otherwise grasp the change that has come to our world in those 40 odd years, it is plain to see that we ain't exactly doin' better.
Were he to come back to life today the world we live in would be almost unrecognizable to him...and not in a good way.
He used to speak about a movie he saw as a kid, about evil men running the world post apocalypse and pilots, (the hero group) coming to save the day. The movie scared the crap out of him as a boy in the mid thirties, during the height of the depression. People then looked to the pilots and their tech...super giant airplanes and good men in them, as the wonders of the day..as the saviors of mankind.
If the old adage that states "tech is a doubled edged sword" is true, and the belief that it is up to the hearts of men to use it wisely, well..I don't think we have been doing a good job of using it wisely, and I sure as heck don't see it as the savior of anything.
It all comes down to people. The human factor.
One need only look around to evaluate how that is going.

Possible solutions?

Maybe we give all the dumb people there own internet where they can waste there lives making cat videos and buying dick pills that don’t work?

I’ve seen this thing progress from the start, it’s on a path to uselessness and at a certain point of it takes too much time to use and be of use I just stop using it for things.

I do feel bad for this guy I know who I won’t name, he’s a nice guy and dumber than a box of rocks. However “youtube’ing it” has been his go to for most things in life he didn’t quite grasp. In the past he would have been eaten by a predator quickly or hell his whole lineage may have been eaten by a predator generations before he had a shot at progeny. But due to technology and modern medicine he’s here, and up until recently he’s been able to you tube his way through daily activities. He’s out there, he’s breeding, and he’s trying to get us.

AI is going to run this off the rails. It was designed by the same people herding the dummy's into group think. IE: elections, covid, buy this and that, global homo. global warming, electric cars will save us, the world is gonna end from pollution...............on and on........ Some of us will see through the smoke and turn the shit off, some will argue with a Bot and most will line up to take it in the ass. Let's go Brandon!

Seriously. Skynet is here.

AI is going to be like the internet, but more and faster.. People will figure out how to monetize it better, and it will drive the feeble further off the rails.

You're not wrong one bit.

The infrastructure that the Internet lives on IS NOT FREE!!!

Computers and servers cost BIG money, and somebody has to pay for all that. There are mega dollars being spent behind the scenes.

Google has spent billions and billions of dollars on infrastructure to support YouTube, Google maps and all the other stuff we take for granted. And they spend even more billions every year.

Who's gonna pay for all that??

The interweb is still in it's infancy...

Is the fact that it's being monetized a problem?

Not really.

Is the fact that most people have only the slightest knowledge of how it really works the problem?

It shouldn't be. But...

It's the scammers that take advantage of the situation that are truly the problem.

Educating yourself to these issues is key.

The "cure" lies with us.
As RD said, start by getting rid of google search engine...I have used DDG for years.
But we gotta look deeper.
A fundamental shift in our thinking..as in teaching critical thinking skills and making them a priority again. This means a shift in education, and that will require really taking a deep change to the schools. Parents taking responsibility for their children, and an active role in the schools. Being very in touch with curriculum, and setting standards, demanding accountability. I read the other day that of all the High School students in Philly, a total of zero passed a standardized math test.
Those of us paying for that need to get involved and stop the madness.
To fix all of this will require an effort unlike any this country has focused on since WWII.
What will we put up with? How much crap will the population tolerate?
When I see what is happening at our southern border I say to myself "this has to be it, this has to be what gets people pissed enough, wakes enough people up to see that our country is being purposefully destroyed by evil people, and we will unite to stop it"
I know it can be done, I just worry that the window for doing it is rapidly closing.

Joe, I have things that I give a shit about, and things I don’t. How the internet works is right below reviewing your last colonoscopy video😂

I’m not gonna play the game, I’m a fun hog and my bandwidth will not be absorbed by some gadget of 1’ and 0’s

But yet you use your bandwidth daily on the internet to communicate, recreate, and gain information, yet won't take bandwidth to learn how to use it more efficiently?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough?

Yes, 1's and O's are what data is composed of.

The latest processor, and what memory is compatible with it, is the infrastructure that data is moved on. Along with a million other components.

Do you need to know the mechanics of the above to actually Use the Internet? Obviously the answer is no.

What I was referring to, as was Tommy, is being Safe on the net and using best practices to do so.

At some point I will unplug the thing and be done with it personally, I’ll hire a button pusher to cater to my computer related bullshit. There’s an ass for every seat, I prefer putting mine in fast cars, boats and airplanes vs. being a desk jockey😉

So I would say yes for main stream internet.. google is manipulating not only our society but entire world views.. Same with other tech companies. They are affecting our government the same as our government is working with them..

The internet is by far the most powerful thing on the planet as it is literal mind control over the masses and the ones with critical thinking are by far and away silenced or muted.

I'm pre diabetic and just tried to look up foods that would be good for me, and I can't even find dietary information without trying to be sold on some plan. That part sucks..

The inverse though for non main stream things like being able to fix just about anything or find information about historical artifacts animals etc.. It's unreal how fast you have access to that compared to when we were kids.

So I’m relation to this thread.. I clicked this thread about the f150 tag axle deal..

https://www.riverdavesplace.com/forums/threads/unstoppable-holy-grail…-you’ve-got-to-see-this.275787/

Which you click this link to read the article on a website called “the drive”

That website opens on my phone and after just a few seconds..

An ad pops at the top.. you scroll down and it’s scrolling with you..

IMG_1330.png

Then you have ads in the middle of the article as well

IMG_1331.png

Then you have giant full
Screen ads for the I phone.. and when you scroll past that an ad for Disney popped at the bottom that scrolls with you.

Then you have ads in the middle of the article as well

Then you have giant full
Screen ads for the I phone.. and when you scroll past that an ad for Disney popped at the bottom that scrolls with you.

I think you’re doing a good job on this site keeping it “usable”. At a certain point like in your example I just stop and exit whatever it is I was looking at. I’m all about seeing what I want to see and nothing else jammed at me. I made the error of flipping on the tv the other day, flipped a few channels and saw a movie that looked decent to have running in the background. After 10 minutes of having it on and 8 minutes of commercials I just turned it off. The guide showed like 3 1/2 hours blocked out for a 90 minute movie. I remember when if you had cable you didn’t have commercials.

So I’m paying for content, and then I’m also paying to watch commercials, at a certain point, I’m out. Maybe I’m the only one, obviously some assholes are sitting through all this add shit and spending money of these dickheads would be out of business?

Joe, I have things that I give a shit about, and things I don’t. How the internet works is right below reviewing your last colonoscopy video😂

I’m not gonna play the game, I’m a fun hog and my bandwidth will not be absorbed by some gadget of 1’ and 0’s
With Hundreds of you tube subscriptions?
I’d argue that your above post is contradictory to your op.
I have maybe 20, none of which I’ve checked lately.
(Except “Ellen plays bass”)

“How am I supposed to be able to browse my hundreds of subscriptions when you tube won’t alert me…and what’s with all these you tubers clogging up you tube?!!”

lol…just ribbing you, but you can see the humor in that!

Americans…the things we think are problems…😂😂
