If this is correct, I'm going to have some pissed off workers. I need to double check this, but I was looking at the numbers and it doesn't look good. If you make $125k a year and get payed every two weeks, the take home pay was just reduced by $400 a pay check. That's appx. $10,400 a year in cash. This can't be right, has to be a mistake! Anyone else encounter this? I thought only Social Security Tax went up from 4.2% to 6.2%?

I wont be surprised if that is the case.

I get my first paycheck this week. Not looking forward to seeing how much more in taxes I am paying

Yeah - being self employed I am going to lose 4% more to the government. My SS payment is more than the federal tax.

If you are comparing take home pay to check received in December '12 likely you had maxed out on your FICA deductions last year. Starting the new year full FICA deduction until max out again. Always the case for the new year, no FICA deduction in December, full deduction in January until you reach max FICA earnings again in '13.

Last year was based on income on $110k. Haven't checked this year. But I have noticed that everything went up from Fed, State, SS, Medicare & CA Disability.

I'm not looking at a specific paycheck between Dec 2012 & January 2013. I understand about the FICA deductions. I'm looking at a chart and comparing last year to this year and the FED taxes with the witholding went up tremendously and so did the CA income tax. I've been in biz many years, something does not look right.

I thought social security maxed out at something like $5,500 a year.

SS used to be charged on the for $30K earned (or somewhere close to that), they have raised the limit to $102k or $110K and they have talked about raising it again. These are all somewhat hidden as most people don't realize the difference when then SS stops being taken at $30K in earnings vs $110K in earnings, yet that equates to an additional $4,960 in taxes taken out of your check during the year. State Disability used to be charged on the first $7,500 earned...now it is at $110K also.

I used to review a lot of tax returns for people and you would be surprised how many people that think they don't pay taxes because they get a tax refund every year. The are shocked when you tell them that the government withheld $50K in taxes and they got a $5k refund so they paid $45K in taxes. The general public is brilliant. :D

Ok I'm not the majority, because I work nearly every day( with the exception of weekends and most Mondays and Fridays during race season)
Now I did notice my check a tiny bit light on Friday but now after reading this I am gonna go back and compare a January 2012 pay stub to my next one.
And y'all get to deduct 500 or more for kids? Making a mental note to adopt a kid this year. (One that can back a trailer)

This is a joke thread right? Or do you guys really not read the news???

It's all part of the fiscal cliff deal. Everyone's taxes went up.

Obama (or the media) wanted you to think that it was only gonna happen if you made over 250k and up. Stoopid fucks who voted for him passed this on to the rest of us.

Deal with it. It's done.

That would be about right........4.2% + 6.2% would work out to ~$10K annually....of course this is not the true difference in what will be paid in.....but the difference between NOT paying the 4.2% in December and adding the 6.2% in January (10.4% delta).

Good news is that $125K guy won't be paying into FICA next December either......unless of course Pelosi and her cronies get her way this year:grumble:

Just talked to my owner. He has only seen the SS paper work increase so far. The 6.2% is where it was before the PR Holiday tax decrease took effect a few years ago.

Yup.
Wife's check went down $72 bucks, it'll be $140 a month.
Crazy seeing all the people freaking out on social media.
Apparently they've been hiding under a rock the last year...

What do you mean wait? Our premiums were up 10% this year, and we are likely looking at solid double digit increases for a while, at least until the company drops us into the exchanges.

Oh, and the cap for 125k and HSA contributions pre-tax is $2500 now, which will mean about a $2500.00 increase in my taxable income next year.

The premiums for my HSA have gone up 45% in 18 months.

The Government is only raising taxes on the rich.
That's what everyone voted for.

Problem is, they failed to read the fine print...anyone not on welfare is now classified as "rich".

That's what got Gray Davis fired, hopefully the same will happen to Moonbeam.

Our BS of CA private policies have increased over 50% in 2 years.
Just got a notice of additional increase by March of another 10%.

This is exactly the effect desired by the WH. force everyone into Ocare.
One way or another.
