Has anyone built there own BBQ island..what did you use?

Figured I would update this. Finally getting after the bbq island build and have aquired all the equipment.

Started off with some modules and modified them to fit my needs.

Built on top of trex amd then i cement boarded the storage areas and covered that with osb for more strength.

Glued and screwed the cement board.

Cement board should be wrapped up Saturday and then it’s on to tiling. I have never tiled before but have a good feel for it so we shall see how it turns out….lol

Planning on concrete countertops unless @82daytona wants to sponsor the countertops...haha

They were having a special. Also added the grill ,egg ,fridge x2 and door x3 cut outs.

Also added some extra connectors and tubes to put it together.

I am looking at doing the same build you did. How did you level it on the concrete?

I built it on trex and then used composite shims. I didn’t screw it to the ground but I did screw it into the walls and columns.

It’s not going anywhere.

Getting closer…

Was going to tile myself but I found a couple guys that did it for $1300 plus materials. They were here all day Saturday and Sunday and wrapped it up today. No way could I have done as good a job.

We also decided to cut down our fire pit. We were out of town when it was built and always hated the stucco and how tall it was. Wife and I along with our 78 year old neighbor cut it down and scraped the stucco and had the tile guys work their magic. We were thinking about doing matching travertine like the pool but in the end decided on tile as the travertine added like 2” of height we didn’t want.

Next up concrete countertops.

Concrete countertop solutions

They make plastic molds that you mount and then it snaps underneath the countertop once set.

I’m gonna do their whole program. It’s about 1k for the sq footage I need.

You’re not having issues with staining or discoloration? I poured one years ago and never found a good sealer for it.

Nope, have not had any sealer problems that have been brought to my attention
majority of bbqs we do are under patio covers so I’m sure that helps. its a penetrating sealer from hard rock, not sure manufacture name off hand. Been using it for years

Outdoor kitchen is a wrap. Pretty stoked with how everything came out.

35 bags of concrete for the countertops. 4 people was the key. 2 mixing/pouring and 2 leveling and finishing.

Total build cost including all materials,tile labor and equipment after I added it up was $9400 fyi.

Happy 4th I need a drink
