So I let the generator sit sense last thanksgiving tried to fire it up the other day would not start. I drained the gas put fresh gas and did an oil change. It will no start for about 5-8 seconds with some starting fluid spray then dies going to pull the carb has anyone replaced a carb on one of these if so which one are you going with I see a few replacements on Amazon

Honestly, pull the float bowel and carb clean the needle and seat, and the main jet. The new gas sucks balls, but gets the varnish still that will stick the float.

About this time of year I end up doing a bunch of genny's...same people every year. They all say they'll start them every month...

Once you get the carb cleaned or swapped drain the bowl after use if it has a provision for it. If not add a fuel shut off valve to the supply line and run it out of fuel after each use. Or do both, shut off the supply and drain the bowl, run it out of fuel.

Should solve yore problem forever.

LOF couldn't of said it better. Always run the gas out of the carb and fuel line when you store your equipment. This will save you a headache.

All these responses but still not one answer to your question, lol.
No need to replace right off the bat, you could remove it and clean it out with carb cleaner but since that requires removing anyways then feel free to replace with any carb that meets specs. I've had to clean out my Honda carbs when sitting too long. If you're lucky just remove the bowl and spray cleaner up from there.

I had a similar issue and dropped it off to a local lawn mower repair shop and they got it running like a raped ape again. Might be worth looking for a local shop.

What did you spend on it when you took it I mean a new carb is like 25 bucks shipped to my house on Amazon

I think it was around $50... I just figured it was easier to drop off and get fixed rather than ordering and returning parts and making trips back and forth to an auto part store. Thats usually my story when I dive into something!

I just put Amazon carbs on a Honda 185 ATC and a Foreman 500 quad, both fired right up and ran great. 25 bucks each, keep the old ones to use for spare Jets or parts if needed.

Before ordering a new carb try taking apart and rebuilding the one that's on it. Take lots of pictures of the throttle linkage and springs before you take it apart. If it runs with the choke on then dies when you turn the choke off more than likely the main jet is plugged.

I added petcocks to my Hondas. When I am done with them they all get stored dry. I drain the fuel tanks and run the carb dry.

I have a honda 3000 and had the same problem. Since then I replaced the carb and now only use ethanol free gas in mine and run dry every time I test it. I read the ethanol was the problem but I think everyone knows that by now.

I put one of the cheap Amazon carbs on a 8750 Predator generator and it works great, easy install and only about $20. Bonus feature is automatic choke

Thanks for the reminder. I havn't started mine in a year. Battery was dead but fired right up with fresh gas and the pull start.
I always use fuel stabilizer and turn off the fuel and let it run dry.

Add either Lucas Ethanol Treatment or Sea Foam to all your small engine fuel.

And don't forget that petcock thing....

Not sure which model Gen I have but it has a B&S engine. It filled the engine with gas when I went to use it after it sat for years. Had to change the oil. Then I replaced my fuel lines and carb earlier this year with the Amazon one. Runs great. I go out to the shed and turn the key once in a while and let it run for a few mins. Fires right up.

Here is the answer.
You can’t let it sit.
Its just like dirt bike … you gotta start them every month.
Sure you can run till it shuts off but ya gotta drain the bowl.
I know you’re not gonna do that … so figure outta a way to start it up every month.
I have paid $474 a year for so many years to clean the carb … all I gotta do is figure out how to get where it is every month .
I feel your pain.
