I've been collecting tools since my dad gave me Grandpas carry box when I started working on my bike, around '68-70, and been using and collecting since.
The big box is the single largest tool purchase I've ever made, God willing it will be my last big box. I do have a 5 drawer on wheels I roll out to the driveway though.

Funny when you think about tools…


As an example -
I’ve got a $2 K shop vac for grinding concrete - it sucks up the very fine dust…
2 festool shop vacs w/ attachments , 2 ridged shop vacs and a M18 cordless vac
They all SUCK !

Then guys like RD SUX has mills and lathes machine shop tools & the tooling to go with that cost a ton

And
then my one neighbor doesn’t even have an air compressor to pump up a tire to 80 psi or a gauge even check his toy hauler tires….

I went this morning and it’s legit! I bought 3 blue ones for my new garage. It says “limit 1” but the cashier said there’s no limit and sold me all 3

I've finally gotten around to building a real workbench for the 20' section of wall where I have my whiteboards. The bench is 20' long by 29" wide and 40" tall, will have 3 harbor freight 44" tool boxes, clamp storage, drill storage, air tool storage, air outlets on top and a hose reel and...

I scored some free solid exterior doors a while back I've been saving to use as a top, but I plan to eventually get a steel top bent up for it.

The "ICON" stuff is HF's top of the line. It's a straight up clone of the standard SnapOn hand tools. As in in your hand, they feel identical. It's about as close to tool truck stuff as you'll get. I don't have many items, because I already had stuff before they came out with the line. It took me years to build up what I have, and a lot of it was used. This allows guys to step up a bit without needing a credit line off the truck. Seeing more and more of it work it's way into shops in my travels.
Whatever tool gets the job done, I have no brand loyalty

In 1975 I bought a Huge craftsman Rollaway with 4 drawer center Box and 12 drawer top box for around $400 went I worked as a Mopar tech I/we still work out of it to this day

When I 1st set up my garage I bought 2-44 & 1- 56 us gen box’s

I found out fairly quick the 44’s are just to small ! The 56 is the best box !

The 56
Top drawer is way big for sockets. 1/2 socket organizers can fit w/ room to spare
And the standard drawers are about as big as the Top drawer on the 44 so wrenches can fit
If you need a 72 add a side drawer bank on one end or BOTH ends….

Top drawer was to short side to side to fit 2 - 1/2 socket organizers in line
I had to stagger them

The drawer stack was to narrow for wrenches to much space was left unable to be used - one wrench set was on the left side of the drawer and one on the right side then a big gap of unused space in between each rack. I bought the left and right wrench racks and they just didn’t fit very well

I found the same thing.

Realistically, the 44 was not laid out well for what I wanted. The 72” would have been great, but likely overkill for my weekend warrior tool collection.

I’m thinking the 56 will be ideal, and I plan on keeping my smaller old craftsman top box, and will set it on the workbench

…Got it… 90% of my tools were either stolen out of my Lance Camper or burned up in the Lake Oroville fire …and there weren’t that many items that were Snap On… No question about it …the feel of a Snap On ratchet is like no other… you can soft hand it… kind of brings a little more enjoyment to the job…

… With the Husky set that I bought at Home Depot… probably about this time last year… It’s still sitting in my den… Haven’t even opened it up… Can’t work on anything anyway…But the old cheapskate…still couldn’t pass up the $80 deal…

I eased into buying ICON stuff, just because of the old HF reputation, but I've been sold, You will like the product.

I have 2 Husky "briefcases". They are identical, but one is over 25 years old. My friends laughed when I bought it, it wasn't Craftsman. None of us had any tool truck stuff yet. That box had been in every truck I've owned, been to many states and Mexico. It's now semi retired, and stays in my car hauler. The "newer" one stays at the river house. Not as fancy as some other tool sets, but been used a lot over the years.

I bought the 1/4 and 3/8" drive ratchets and they are very nice pieces for the money, plus lifetime warranty is hard to beat! Just for my side projects and own personal use, I try and be easy on tools.
