I've got a pretty good assortment of ICON stuff and been happy with it. That may end up being a starter set for my son.

Icon was a few snap on engineers that got pissd off and started icon there tools are every bit as good as snap on for a third of the cost and side by side you can't tell the difference there are comparison videos on YouTube on wrenches and snap on slips while icon holds strong

Looks like a TOOL BOX tour is needed….

Start a thread !
What’s in the BOX 📦….
I ended up adding a side box to that, not the full locker, but the shelf. It's not that impressive, but its amazing how fast it fills up.

I have become an ICON fanboy though, nothing I've bought has let me down, And My son did just move out and is realizing the luxury he had having access to years of collecting tools. That may end up being his housewarming gift. 🤣 🤣 🤣

That was a Costco 72" box built by a Canadian company, I overloaded the top drawer and blew out the guides. The drawer fell out of the box and no one could replace them, I welded in a set but had outgrown the box and was just really not happy.

I sold it for $400.

My CFO "wife" gave me an open ticket for a new box, and when I built my business case against a Snap On box she bought in. I also opened a HF credit card giving me 15% off plus a 10% off coupon and no interest on financing for a year. ( What wife could pass that up) her eyes rolled back in her head. It was almost too easy

This is what it looked like

The biggest issue I have is Skipped sockets in a set….

Or
Sockets that are not made by a manufacturer to compete a set.

A Buddy was in the market and I suggested Teton

Complete sets

As for sockets…

To fit on a Hansen socket rack

SAE
1/4 -13 sockets
3/8 - 13
1/2 - 15

Met

1/4 - 14
3/8 - 15
1/2 - 18

No skips

This is the socket bars I've used

Color coded for SAE and Metric, I'll get some pictures and post some of the contents when I'm not sipping Tequila

I don't think the Icon stuff skips sizes. Not sure about Quinn (have liked their sockets so far).

Also a huge fan of US General, Icon, and Tekton.. Tempted to upgrade to the 56 in a couple days. One thing I hate about the series 2 boxes is that the drawers don't fully extend. The box is already pretty shallow so you gotta get a bit creative.

Also, if you are patient, you can find great deals on scratched/dented Icon boxes. Certain units are damn-near perfect

I think the newer gen 3 boxes are deeper, or open fully

No deeper, but they do completely open
I struggled knowing the gen three boxes were coming, but I still didn't like the slide lock, and my wife signed off on the high priced box, so that made my mind up, I also have a rolling flip lid cart I use in the driveway to avoid trips to the big box.

My stuff ain't anymore! Some bounces down the road in a trailer, and gets thrown into a road box to bounce in the back of a Prius. Some less commonly used stays at home in the rollcab, and some stays in 3 drawer filing cabinets...
It's a damn pawn shop circus
You wanna se my sons shop truck?????

He generally hauls more tools than the car is worth in the hatch, but its priceless, great mileage, and is a work horse. the tool kit I just bought is for his garage..... 🤣

I paid 3k for a Prius 4 years ago. Put almost 70k on it. At any given time it may have 3-4k in tools on board. Keeping overhead low when I can!

The kid paid $4.5K for the honda, and you can see he is a car guy, 105K on it, and he looked at Prius but went with an ICE package, I laughed, but he has proven me wrong, pretty smart kid.

I bought the POS because my daily was an Excursion...and Biden had just "won" the election. At the time, it was really because I'd take two trips into town everyday, so 40 miles a day. Then it became weekly trips to Phoenix for medical appointments. Somewhere in there it became, well I became, a mobile mechanic person.
I'd still love to find a rolled or totaled Prius to cut up and put under an 80's Toyota pickup...old school mini-truck style with hammers ;)

I probably have parts and the time to sort that.

My son was living at home and grinding me about buying a mileage car, I fought him off, living at my house, and taking up space at my house.

Mind you he was and still has an FJ 80 he probably has 40k in, but gets 9 MPG driving 60 miles a day, he was dying paying the fuel bill.

So finally I relented and said i was ok with a second car as long as you don't drag another project into my yard, I have my own shit.

so he bought the Honda, put the Moonie's on it, tinted the windows, and 3 months later bought a house, so the kid had a plan,, not too bad at 25 years old.

So maybe Dad can pop for a garage tool set for the kid.

This is the high lights, some newer ICON stuff, Some 40 year old MATCO stuff, Some homemade tools, and drawer full of overly priced Toyota stuff.
And a picture of the box over all.
I opted for A drawer center section rather than the hutch, cause I would just clutter it up.

Just bought a 72” US General base for our son’s Christmas gift. Also grabbed the largest Craftsman tool set to go in it. Now he has a place to put thIngs in his garage rather than in random places. Surprised that he we rather excited to me making him the offer to buy the set up.

Slide lock takes a bit of getting used to but I prefer it. You don't need to jar the drawer opening or closing it and knock over anything that standing up in it, like the detent drawers.

I've got a Snap-On KRL1001 that I bought 25 years ago but lately the slides have really been pissing me off....I've replaced most of them and they work nice for a year or 2 and then start getting fucky again.

I really should just go through the box and get rid of half the shit in it, but regardless of how obsolete something is, I always seem to find a need. Just this morning I grabbed my Ford Aerostar heater hose tool to scratch an itch on my back that my mopar sway bar end link back scratcher wouldn't reach lol.

My old box everything ended up in the back of the drawers from that exact reason. Pre set tension with no adjustment, It took awhile but I have the new box dialed with the adjustable tension, It was a pain at first but i like it now that its setup.

The ICON stuff is surprising good. I just started small with a couple ratchets to verify quality and must say I am surprised. I have a couple daily mechanic friends that have huge tool boxes of Snap On and they started buying ICON a year ago and now only buy from HF.

I will say though, I have this Snap On dealer on my social media named Val, and I like to hear her marketing on Snap On products.

Hey where did you pick up the wrench and socket storage items? I should look into that for our son too.

Sad part is that we have 4 sets of tools with my father in law, my father and my Hawaii set and Havasu set. Fo some reason our son wants his own. So now when I die he will have 5 sets of tools. 😆

This is what we bought….
