Not sure what numbers this put up but I’d be interested in converting my 335 to triple 450 OBs.

Just seems like it really throws off the boats natural center of gravity when you bolt OBs on a platform designed for I/O.

How much does a rigged 450 weigh compared to a Supercharged 502 and IMCO SCX?

That has been the worst looking hallet of all time. OB’s ruined it.

Will have to say the same with the OB Lavey.
OB's take the awesome look away from these style of boats. Also too when I see these types of boats I think this is part of what makes America badass but it's only badass when it's big block GM power. Better with pipes. Even better with an 8-71. The OB's just don't do it.

I don't think the overall weight is much different than a single iron block big block and bravo 1 drive. But the outboard will tend to run more efficient because the hull doesn't have to work to lift the engine weight nearly as much. Which allows the hull to ride freer and dryer, thus faster for the same or even less HP.

Well the engine weight is definitely further aft, and higher up and that probably acts as a good lever on the hull. I’m just not certain the I/O isn’t better balanced because the weight is lower in the boat. Less potential for roll momentum.

There’s a 300 with triple 300s that runs pretty strong
You referring to the blue 300? That was my neighbors old boat before he sold it to a guy in the sacremento area. It used to have triple 2.5 on it but kept having issues breaking blades and cooking gear cases, ultimately that's why he sold it

It's definitely far more planted in the water, more of the hull is riding wet. I doubt the height if the CG of the boat is that much higher. Plus, it would be REALLY hard to compare due to the hull running drier.

I remember reading here that when Lavey put twin 300s on their 2750 (28.6') boat that it ran 91MPH, which seemed pretty good for such a big boat.
94 mph; standard fiberglass and balsa core layup, full big stereo, and it was a mid cabin open bow. It was also with the older 300xs two stroke engines.

It would be even better with the newer OB engines; 300R 400R 450R

How did it handle vs. an i/o setup?

Im diehard outboards but I’d stick with the 600 I/Os.

You’d need some serious transom reinforcement and you’re giving up the entire swim step.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it lost a few MPH adding that 3rd lower unit in the water

Don't you have some bad ass supercharged Teague motors?

Then I thought I read you were going to sell it and just do a pontoon?

Now it's triple 450's!!!

I think you are bored and you should start fresh.

29 with 300's

I drove it at Mead. 74 on gps is what I got it to. Probably could have run a little faster in more ideal conditions.

The 30 with triples probably runs low to mid 70's also.

Both boats are too damn quiet and losing the swim step isn't worth it.

You’re correct. Boredom has set in. I’d start fresh if the boats I wanted weren’t all over $500,000

I agree. I get multiple offers to buy my boat. I am not bored with mine, but some of the offers are crazy. The problem is, new boat prices are crazy, so it doesn't get you anywhere (at least my situation)

A rising tide raises all boats, both new and used. So in the end, you're right, it's a wash. For example, a new MTI 42V CC with 4 450s was like $900,000 a few years ago and now it's close to $1,500,000. I couldn't afford it then and I can't afford it now that's for sure.

I wondered how that 290 did. About like a 525??
The quiet I could get along with. Not so much losing the swim step.

Similar yes. Drove one with a 520 also. To me the 520 boat felt better overall. The 600 powered setup best overall while still being pretty mild. Ran mid 80's.

You can definitely feel the CG difference in the OB boat.

Seriously?

You haven't even run it enough for boredom to set in. That is a badass boat. Definitely nothing boring about it.
