I thought I was done with boating. It's been three years since my last trip and somehow, after talking with a boating friend the fire was re-lit. After talking with my wife and kids about what would make boating fun, we all agreed a bigger boat was needed. After poking around for a few weeks, I settled on either a Hallett 240 or a 270. As luck would have it, a board member had his for sale and after looking at it, we agreed on a price and I bought it less motor. I'll document the build here, but initial plans are as follows:

Deep clean floor and interior
Gut bilge and have gel coat re-done
Install my 548 Chevrolet motor
Re-rig and update all relative components

The motor he had in it was solid. Was only asking 32k?

I bought the motor for my 240 it had under 10hrs lol. It pushed that 270 to mid 70'S with a bravo 27p and more rpm left. Im hoping to run a 28P and have a nice 3000rpm cruise speed.
I've got a labbed 27p. Motor should end up with a touch over 700hp. Not sure what to expect. Going to run it and see what happens.

With marine exhaust and accessories 700Hp is going to be a tall order out of a 548. if it made 625-650hp (honest HP) id say you did great. the 555ci is going to hit the dyno and im thinking 650 is the number.

This motor already dynoed at 825, pulling the cam out of it to tame it down some for this boat. Was in a jet before. The accessories will pull a little bit of power though which I hadn't even thought of(thanks). Excited to see how it runs.

I can't load the before pic...couple of washes and a light sanding got me here. It was pretty beat before. I'm going to wash it with a little bit of bleach to try and kill some of the mildew this weekend. After that it will get oiled and new snap in carpet installed.

I don’t know your budget but you will only need 2 4x6 sheets of teak and holly to do that boat. With new stainless #10 screws and floor snaps you’ll be into it for around $400. End result is well worth it.

That does look good, and I may go that route, but I'm considering converting it to an open bow, so I'll do the floor when I have the interior redone.

Going to drop off at OC Boat Repair tomorrow. It looks worse than it is, but boat definitely had some water in it at one time, but transom is solid, thankfully. Old gel job was not prepped and gel is cracking everywhere. Going to cost a small fortune to fix but it's worth it to fix it right and end up with a good looking engine room.

Haha, thanks Nate. Just dropped it off at OC boat repair for a buff and bilge respray. Won't be long now.

Stopped by the shop yesterday to give a deposit. I figured they wouldn't have even started on it but was stoked to see they had already made some huge progress. The guys at OC Boat Repair ain't messing around.

Haha, it does. They said the gel was practically falling off. Can't wait to see it all cleaned up.

Did finish my gelcoat in the bilge with bilge coat to seal the gel. It's easy to wipe clean after some spills of oil changes. Gelcoat is porous and turns ugly when it stains.
Here's a picture of my bilge with fresh white gelcoat. The bilge coat has a yellow tint in it, so it won;t show stains.

Funny, my bilge has been gelled in all of my boats and never had any problems with stains. I keep my boats clean and detailed so that could have something to do with it.

Haha, I've been meaning to post. The rains have really hurt my plans, but hopefully that's pretty much behind us.

Got the drive back in finally this weekend. All parts/brackets powder coated. Going to install motor mounts this weekend and hopefully pick up my motor in the next couple of weeks. Should start going back together quick once I have it in the boat.

Finally got the floors cleaned up. Was hoping to get more of the dark spots out, but I'm going to put the snap in carpet in n so this should work just fine

Got the motor done. 548 Chevrolet. It was in my jet boat previously. Originally built around 13 years ago. Really low hours on it so pulled the cam out (had a big solid roller in it) and went to a hydraulic roller. Power at 6100 is identical to what I was making previously, with a much more conservative setup so pretty happy with it. Was expecting to give up some power. Motor was built by Dave Ebbert.

Made a little more progress. Left one of the risers at work and that set me back a little. Running out of stuff to bolt on, need to spend some more money! A little bummed that I can't keep my Clay Smith mechanical pump, but I'll go electric and get away from the cranking after long periods of no use which has always been a pet peeve of mine.

Had the kid turn a few wrenches on it today so that was nice. Awesome to finally have a capable helper! Happy Father's day to all!

Motor looks sweet. I REALLY like those valve covers. Love that bead showing!!! Are those made by your engine builder or did he buy them somewhere and badge them?

Gotta little more done. Trying to keep it organized and clean, easy to maintain etc. Ran out of screws and clamps so can't finish. Got the bilge pump mounted along with steering cable attached too.

Wiring, fuel & water plumbing remain.

Great work, I really enjoy seeing the Hallett restoration posts. Where did you source the Blower hose? I don't like the really thin black or white hose that available. Source for the clamps would be great also. Thanks, and keep posting updates.
Blower hose is actually from all star performance. Typically used for brake rotors cooling.

The clamps are a combination t-bolt hose clamps with some brackets I made on the mill.

In the end, the install was a compromise between cleanliness and function. I was hoping to place one blower intake I'm the front of the bilge, and another at the rear, bit it was going to be such a cluster to route a hose to the front that I said f-it and put them right by each other.
