Laveycraft is a great option if you are open to it!

210 over an ultra 21 for sure, but for what type of boating you will be doing either will work.

If there were 2 boats that were the comparable in terms of year built, power, hours, options, etc and they were priced the same, I'd take the Hallett over the Ultra all day long.

In reality, for the same money you will likely be able to find a newer Ultra with lower hours for the same money as the Hallett. Which is the best option? That depends and you can make a case for either one.

Both are quality boats, but I don't think anyone will argue that Hallett has more prestige that Ultra.

FWIW - I'm not saying anything negative about Ultra - I'm a Shockwave owner and fan, and I would make the same comments if the question was comparing a 21 Shockwave to a 21 Hallett.

^^ this here is a solid statement. I would say hallett, but I am biased. They are one smooth riding 21 though.

I own a 210 Hallett, (so consider the source lol). I love the boat. I have ridden in a 21 Ultra and there was no comparison in ride or handling. You may pay a little more for a Hallett but they seem to hold there value a little better.

I'd take a Lavey over the Hallett or the Ultra for a 21. The Hallett is a little more my style.

You can almost buy a new 21 Ultra with small power for what some of these boats are bringing used.

I have owned both, and re-rigged both, 1991 Hallett 210 and a 2001 Ultra 210RS. Both are good boats but the Hallett was hands down higher quality rigging. They are all different bottom designs including the Lavey, the Ultra has a rounded Keel where the Hallett is a straight V with greater speed and stability potential. The Ultra had more room in the cockpit area as the helm is further forward which allows for a extra set of jump seats. Hallett open Bow is bigger. Just all depends on what you want to use the boat for. The Ultra is a good all around family boat and and served us well, they generally have more current gel designs just less potential for above average performance. Take a look at the wiring behind the dash and rigging on the boats you are interested in. Always liked the Lavey as well, they are big for a 21 and have a good bottom design.

Thanks for your input. How do they compare as far as how close the sit to the water? Rough waters etc. The lakes around here can get pretty rough. Its just the 2 young kids and the wife and I so think they all have enough room.

Free board on the Hallett and Ultra is pretty similar.

Essex Sterling is a good choice too! Similar interior layout as the Ultra and rides MUCH better than the Ultra (get trim tabs though). Haven't been in a Hallett but they are the nicest boat out of them all

Give me prices! lol late 90's to early 2000's Hallett 210 with 350 and Bravo 1 clean ready to go, what could I expect to pay. I've looked around and seen asking 16k to 26K.

Can't speak about the other two, but you wouldn't be disappointed with the 21 Lavey Craft. We love our 02 21 XT ski.
It handles well at all speeds and puts a smile on everyone's face when you romp on it, if you're into that sort of thing, which I am.:D

I picked up my 1995 Hallett 210 OB with 350/Bravo 1 and 256hrs in 2011 for $17k. It was a 9 out of 10.
I see the same ones now going for this or more. Saw one last week for sale with bigger power and i think he was asking in the mid 20's for it.
These things don't loose much value...

Sold my 96 Essex for 19.5k a few months ago. 290 hours, 67mph max on the 454 mag Bravo 3 with headers. I've been in the same boat at 90mph, great hull

My choice between the 2 would be hallett.. But would choose a Lavey and shockwave step skier over the hallett.

Not sure which years but hallett had issues with water under the floor in the 210 us

Lavey, Hallet and Ultra were my short list. I got a 21 Stealth and love it. Good freeboard, handles chop well ,great craftsmanship especially if you get one completely done by John at Ultra.

I've had a ton of 21's and this is by far my favorite

I liked the Hallet but no floor storage sort killed it for me. I would have looked at the Lavey xt-ski with the step hull but I really wanted a jet for the river.

Here's a freeboard pic

I'd also toss an Essex 21 in your search.

That 93' is our friends old boat. They sold it a while back, and I have no doubt it took that kind of cash to restore it. It was originally owned by a MLB player.

There's a similar colored 210 rotting away in the front yard of a house on Detroit street in Norco. About a year ago we saw it there, and it looks like they started wrenching on it, but now it looks to be in pieces, without a cover.

FWIW, I have a 210, and a friend has the 21 Lavey. The Lavey is a solid boat and is faster than my 210 (a couple of MPH, nothing to get excited about lol). The freeboard is way higher, but the front open bow area is much smaller.

Should really consider the Lavey 21...It will be cheaper than both. However, Lavey is a quality boat and a large 21'.

I have owned both the Hallett and the Ultra.

The rigging on the Hallett is outstanding. The 210 with Trim Tabs will give you a very nice ride. I have had zero problems with the Boat. Ours is a 2006 and we bought in in 2013. We have only done routine service on it. Lavey is a quality Boat.

Howard 22 offshore... Much deeper boat, but similar size overall. Capable of handling the bad days on pleasant with ease.

Some of the Laveys have a seating arrangement that limits legroom in the back.
