Well.......shit!!

Round 2!

I got rid of the Bassett headers because they caused a reversion issue. Kept milshaking the oil. Also caused two spark plug wires to be burned to the core which led the motor to cut out at 3500 rpm. So I called my boy Nick to build some custom risers, as I had some Hardin Marine manifolds. He was busy, so I called Craig at CMFO Racing. He built me a custom set of water jaketed stainless risers......and he did not disappoint.

Another plus to the manifolds and risers, I am adding a hatch to the back of the boat. The Bassetts were not cool enough (heat wise) to go into an enclosed compartment. So for safety reasons, we went this direction.

But I blew this shit up anyway.

Pulled the motor last week and decided to have a local performance shop tear it down and figure out the failure, then build the shit out of it. I also bought a really nice intercooler, so we will add that as the cherry on top.

Here is a pic of the Bassetts before removal.

Here are pics of the new manifolds and risers. I also had to throw some temporary valve covers to make the new manifolds work.

Got towed in. And of course, there's always that one asshole that you know.........that has to take a picture and kick you when you're down.

Went to HF and bought a gantry. It is way cheaper than bringing a forklift home. And talk all the shit you want, HF always comes through. And for those that will study the photos, those straps are well placed under the heads and kept in place from slipping out with a nice set of fasteners. This setup is sturdy and awesome.

Got my other valve covers back from powder and put them on before taking it to the shop.

Every time you blow up, you’re gonna get something more powerful after. Love your boat man.

Got the motor back on Friday. Freshly built from the bottom up. Only internals reused are the connecting rods, block, and oil pump. I added new cobra jet aluminum heads and a chiller. Also found the blower had a rough spot, so I took it to Brad Littlefield for some love. Being a reversed blown deal, I couldn't dyno it with the blower as the dyno couldn't bolt up to the flywheel with the blower pulley on it. So we slapped an AFR single plane intake on it and made some pulls to break it in. This is a full hydraulic roller motor. 523" BBF. Made 600 hp and 507 ftlb WITHOUT the blower.

Then we put the chiller and blower on it and home I went. I'm thinking 800 hp (conservatively) with the blower.

I'll update when I drop it in and rig it back up.

Time for an update.

Took it to Havasu March 1-3 for our Annual Boys Trip. Had a blast as usual. Boat rips and new motor runs FANTASTIC.

We also got to enjoy a special birthday party and an impromptu boat show!!!!!! Always a great time with a bunch of awesome people.

Boat is going back to Rene's as I want to add a hatch around the motor to give it the "family cruiser" look. It will be badass with the blower and carbs sticking up through it.

Here are a few videos and pics from that weekend. (some pics and video credit to @nextasex )

The last pic tho.......🙌

Update:

Now that I have the exhaust/water system dialed, I can add the hatch and finish off the interior. Well, as all good plans go, it wasn't that easy. To add the hatch, we had to modify the rear bench and side gunwhale panels. Of course, since I'm modifying the panels, might as well as cup holders and pockets up front. I didn't do that originally as I wanted to keep it simple.

Rene at Riverside Boat Upholstery was redoing the work, that he originally did. He suggested we redo the buckets too. My BIL had his Schiada buckets there, so we test fitted for looks and I said let's do it. So an entirely new interior was done. Again.

Rene hooked it up!!!! This is now, the true family cruiser I was dreaming of. Minus the V-drive. But hey, I can go in shallow places.

FYI There are A LOT of photos below. Including some before and afters. I LOVE pictures (I'm an Eastman Kodak kid). So enjoy.
