This is exactly how I transport as well. The magazine is loaded sitting next to the unloaded gun. The case is under the backseat of the truck with the dog riding on the seat.

THIS.... is the big difference out there between agency's. We train, time permitting, to at least run the license plate prior to the stop. We don't go over the air for this, our in car computers do all the work without all the noise. There are times when it doesn't happen, but most of the time it does. That doesn't mean we know jack shit about the occupant, but at least know ahead of time if there are wants/warrants associated with the car.I don’t know shit about fuck until I meet you through the window. Some depts put out all their stops to their dispatchers, but we make WAY too many stops for that shit.
IDTS. NOT IN CA. Illegal to possess. So riddle me this, to the industry experts on the board (LEOs), can I bring my G19 magazines into the state if they are unloaded? I don't have any of those pansy-assed magazines. I'm just passing through anyway, so they don't need to be loaded. Or can they be loaded and outside of the firearm if I'm a resident of another state?

Loaded and on me.
Don’t do shit to create a PO contact.
Don’t do something for a PO to ask you to step out of the vehicle.
No you don’t not have a gun in your vehicle
I wouldn’t give them a reason to ask me that.So if you get pulled over and LEO says “do you have any drugs or weapons in the vehicle” you will say no?
I wouldn’t give them a reason to ask me that.
That is not a common question.
Police officers usually only ask question they know the answer too. Also if you have done something to earn that question you better answer truthfully.
I think that's the question they ask right before you're asked to step out of the car. I've never been asked that question.I thought it was a routine question but I’m not LEO and I watch a ton of COPS on YouTube
@FlyByWire can you please verify? Is that a routine question or is it uncommon?

I get the are there any weapons drugs or anything I should know about. I just say no or if I have my pocket knife I’ll say just a pocket knife.I thought it was a routine question but I’m not LEO and I watch a ton of COPS on YouTube

Fixed for ya…I remember when we used to roll with a shotgun in the gun rack in the back window of the truck on the way to school. Before that boating accident that is
All my vehicles are hard to start. That’s why I carry starting fluid and carb cleaner in them.I carry Bear Spray almost everywhere. There is talk of the Grizzly being reintroduced in California and those trash bandit Black Bears can get a little spicy. In Baja I switch to Wasp Spray, that shit that shoots 40 feet at high pressure comes in handy for spraying wasps, since there are no bears. Maybe you need some pest repellent in your RV when you travel?
Be careful, it can become a flamethrower if you introduce a spark. All my vehicles are hard to start. That’s why I carry starting fluid and carb cleaner in them.
Ok another question for LEOs. When or if stopping a class a motorhome, do you go to the window? Always wondered that because it is pretty high up there. And no I have never been pulled over in the motorhome or anything else for more than 30 years.
So riddle me this, to the industry experts on the board (LEOs), can I bring my standard G19 magazines into the state if they are unloaded? I don't have any of those pansy-assed magazines. I'm just passing through anyway, so they don't need to be loaded. Or can they be loaded and outside of the firearm if I'm a resident of another state?
If the cops have probable cause to search the car, a warrant is not needed. Its one of the warrant exceptions and the gun safe would be free game also as its in the car (generally) - see US v Carroll.I keep mine "truck gun" in a locked safe with the mag out, LO would need a warrant to access my safe, as I understand it (not a lawyer) but that is considered legal. Now the mag size and ammo type seems to be a moving target in Ca lawfare between the courts.
That's some pretty old case law, and seems to be about contraband if my quick read of an article on it was correct. Very interesting though ty for the heads up.If the cops have probable cause to search the car, a warrant is not needed. If your in a motorhome…
I would lock it up while the rig is In motion
Or at least set it in a back bed room
And
Whip it out while camped at “your home”
Yeah. . . no.10 rd magazines only allowed in Ca.
Although….you can disassemble and separate all the parts, not illegal to own plastic parts & a spring…

For the Cal Cops here........... I know that most of you wouldn't disarm your back-up, but is there any legal or policy guidelines on those who fall under (retired) LEOSA?
While I know that I can carry concealed or otherwise be "exempt" from most State possession laws, could I be hassled for my [theoretical] 15 round Glock mags or 30 round AR mags?
It'd be a PITA to have to get "travel mags" just to drive I-40/95 through CA from AZ to NV. (the only time I go through USSCA)
Careful here. Possession is an infraction. ….Importation is a misdemeanor.
I don’t have any illegal boat anchors in Ca.
Even bought a featureless AR - No modifications done….
Although Springfield M1A’s are pretty nice ….
Me too!!In AZ gun is in the car door, most of CA it goes into the center console while driving/lock box when parked.
Hahaha.....Honest question, do cops really bother with the fuel jugs?Just don’t have any of those illegal motocross style fuel jugs in the bed of your truck, mister.

When that law first came about, they were giving out tickets for it in glamis. Or at least that's what everyone said, I never got one.Hahaha.....Honest question, do cops really bother with the fuel jugs?
HahahahahahahaI’m sure somewhere somebody does. Everybody has “that guy”. We aren’t any different.
In my early days if you pressed the right buttons, I’d pencil fuck you with every possible thing I saw. My record was 7 counts.. only time in my career I used our little ticket continuation form. Lol.
I've had Rangers come through camp amd never say a word about it. They would check for spark arrestors. When that law first came about, they were giving out tickets for it in glamis. Or at least that's what everyone said, I never got one.
The fine details of warrantless searches of motor vehicles is more in depth. Some are related to inventory searches, searches incidental to arrest, searches based on probable cause, plain sight, smell and consent. That's some pretty old case law, and seems to be about contraband if my quick read of an article on it was correct. My only reason for me not having a CCW is the liability that comes with it.If you live in San Bernardino or Riverside county, just get your CCW. The process is really easy, and if you get your Utah, Florida, and Arizona license also, it covers you for most of the states through reprocity (All you have to do is mail in the application for those states).
The application process is all online, and unless you are a shitbag or a felon, you'll most likely have it within 3 to 5 months.
I was told by reliable source that starting some time next year, you won't have to be a resident of San Bernardino county to apply for a CCW there.
A CCW license through any county in California covers you in the entire state.

Should you end up using your firearm for protection, it may help with liability by showing that you took training to avoid such situations and to keep bystanders safe in such a situation. My only reason for me not having a CCW is the liability that comes with it.
Some I know who are in law enforcement have told me if they want to search they are searching. Not an every stop deal but pc they told me has a wide range. The fine details of warrantless searches of motor vehicles is more in depth. While a search warrant is rarely needed for a motor vehicle, some detectives will get one anyway.
Point being, those bells and whistles is all you need to hear. Not sure how different your CAD's are from ours, but certain beeps mean certain things. You don't need more than a second to wait for that unless your system really sucks. Either way, be safe out there. If someone takes longer than a few seconds to yield, or I get that intuition.. I’ll run the plate so it’s on my CAD history… but I’m not going to sit in the car (coffin) and look at the return. If it’s stolen all kinds of bells and whistles and red computer screens happen so even a motor would know what’s up.
