So dumb question/ observation.

Why is it when you go to check out at Home Depot or Lowes you can grab as many plastic bags as you want without being charged. Or I have also noticed when I order food to go, it comes in plastic bags that I am not charged for.

I thought the law that passed back in January was all plastic bags- and their is a charge with the intent to reduce the number of bags. Whats the deal, was the focus of this ridiculous new law only for grocery stores?

The ban doesn't really apply to Home Depot. Revolves around groceries and booze.

Quick Google search:

The types of stores to which the bag ban applies can be found at Section 42280(g) of the Public Resources Code (PRC), which defines ?Store? for purposes of the bag ban. Generally speaking, the bag ban covers:
Full-line, self-service retail stores with gross annual sales of at least $2 million that sell a line of dry groceries, canned goods, or nonfood items, and some perishable items.
Large retail stores with a pharmacy that have at least 10,000 square feet of retail space and that generate sales or use tax.
Convenience stores, food marts, or liquor stores that are engaged in the retail sale of a limited line of goods, generally including milk, bread, soda, and snack foods, and that hold a Type 20 or Type 21 license issued by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

I always laugh when I visit Cali because I run to the store and pay money for these super thick bags that can be reused but I'm not gonna take them home on the airplane so they go in the trash and take longer to decompose. Seems like it's just made us throw away bags that worse for the environment instead of making it better.

Never use bags, just put a couple items in the cart and let the workers retrieve the cart from the lot. My way of saying FU.

X2!!! Need to keep the cart collectors busy!!

I tell them no bags and just put everything in the cart. Then I just load the whole cart into the back of the truck and take it home. Makes it much easier to get the groceries into the house and put away! :D:thumbsup

Actually since moving to NV I don't have to worry about it or any other stupid laws any more! :eek:D

In my opinion, store owners lobbied for this idea in order to increase profits. They needed support so they promoted a "feel good / save the earth" idea to a bunch of liberals who have nothing better do to than watch local news propaganda anyways. This was smart on the store owners part.

LOL what a fucking circle jerk.

You buy 2 gallons of milk, case of water, plastic jug of OJ carton eggs, bagged salad, load them in your escalade and they are worried about a couple micro thin grocery bags 🤡

I go to Toms farms every once in a while on the bike and have a beer and people watch. In the past they said by law the beer had to be in a paper sack which I was OK with. Now with the new law they say you don't need the bag but if they give you one its 10cents. its kind of like a 10cent cooley cover...lol

make up your fucking minds already.

Its a total cirlce jerk.... I remember back in the day when they did away with the paper grocery bags because they were cutting down to many trees and were being replaced with reusable plastic bags and here we are today.

I remember making book covers for my school books with the paper bags back in the day and when they did away with them we had to buy book covers.

Those paper grocery bags were good for picking up the dog shit.

It's bullshit. Your paying twice for the damned bag. The price of the bags is already figured into the price of the goods. Then you have to give another 10 cents per bag. If it went to some program to clean shit up, maybe. But it doesnt. It goes into the profits of the grocery.

That's your fault for not bitching about it.

[emoji12]
Lol!

I figure my extra $2 a year (guesstimate) isn't really worth bitching about.

Now, don't get me started and the new "gas tax" and registration increases.

That was on the ballot too. We voted against putting proceeds from bags into an environmental fund, but voted ourselves into paying for bags and the market keeps the money.

They haven't started charging for boxes at Costco yet. I try to do most shopping that makes sense there.

When they ask if i want a bag i say "Yes...the enitre rack "......then i toss them in the parking lot wind. The look on their face is priceless.

Or i make them use one bag per item.

Are you guys telling me those little baskets by the front door aren't free to take home? 😬 Carpenters union gave us a bunch of canvas union bags. They work pretty well 😊

Bingo. Jan carries several beach bags in her car for shopping.
It's actually kinda wierd now shopping in Az and coming home with a shit load of plastic I don't want.
Most end up being dog poop bags.

I use the plastic carry totes. They are free. And they are great to store things in them in the garage. :D
I did that the very first time they asked if I wanted to buy bags. I said, "nope". They looked at me all puzzled so I motioned toward the tote. They loaded it up, I took it out and tossed it in the trunk and left. My wife was pissed. She swore they were going to call the cops on me. LOL
