As with anything I suppose things could be worse, but I figured I'd vent a little... everyone else does.

Had a blast with the Schiada guys and the Shockwave guys Sunday am. Came home bearing presents for all the kids and a pocket full of cash courtesy of the Bluewater casino. At some point during the day I hurt my back.. it sure when. I'm guessing maybe it was loading the water softener salt bags, but honestly I don't know. Laid down to take an hour nap before taking the familly out via ting.. when I woke up couldn't hardly move. Crazy back pain and just "locked" up for lack of a better term. It was so bad that I couldn't even back the boat in the garage because I couldn't move my neck left and right to see out of the mirrors. Said fuck it, and just left everything outside for the night. Figured I'd get up at like 3 am and deal
With it then. Obviously couldn't sleep all night, got up this morning and it felt a little better originally. Now it's right back to where it started. Had to go down to the kids school to try and jump start my wife's now broken down car. Been screwing with that for 45 minutes and it's humid and hot as balls out. Come to the conclusion that it probably isn't a battery problem. Call the tow truck, they say the time they are showing up is 2:45.. that's the time school gets out. More then gone calls finally get the phone number out of AAA and advise local towing company that showing up at that time is probably not in anyone's best interest.

Now sitting in truck with crazy pain, wife, three kids waiting on tow truck.... and it's at a school so I have to hop a wall and walk down the street f I wanna smoke. Lol.

Awesome.

Forgot to mention that we exceeded our data and got to spend another 20 min on the phone dealing with that.. lol.

And the dog took a dump in the kids sandbox.

That about sums it up, other than dealing with another thing that I'm not gonna get into on here.

I've had the same problem with my back for years from schlepping cases of oil and coolant when I was young. My wife (a PT) has me pull my knees to my chest, gently and slowly, to stretch the back muscles. Sometimes the pain is so bad it's impossible until Motrin kicks in. The other thing that helps is doing ab crunches to help keep your core straightened out.

Get yourself a high density foam roller from Wally world.

Rolling your back on that will help get your spine realigned and you will feel better.

I've had back pain so bad I thought I'm never gonna walk again...

Last time it happened I went to the ER and said I'm not leaving till you figure it out, I can't fucking live like this!!!!!!!!!!

They did and sent me to the back specialist. I had to take a class and start doing PT every day. Eventually the pain went away...

But, they told if I don't keep up the PT they gave me, the pain is gonna come back. They were right as fuck.

So now I just do it when I feel it starting to lock up. At least I can manage it now.

I feel for ya Johnson. I hope you find a way to get some relief.

Hey Dave, how do you feel about doing ab crunches??? LoL

Seriously, start walking and doing some exercise and EVERYTHING will feel better. We are not young anymore

My back pain comes when my ass muscles and hamstrings are really tight. And I don't know what type of back pain you guys get but when mine is bad Advil is worthless.

Back pain...Noted.

Do some stretching, Johnson.
I also find (for what ever odd reason) the simple motion of sweeping the floor helps. Not a push broom, typical house broom. Something about the side to side motion.

Sucks man, I hate it when my back fires off like that. Simple things like wiping ones own ass becomes a tortuous challenge.

Went to four different chropractors. Can't get in until morning.

I have my back flare ups down to only being down for about 3 days. I used to be laid out on my couch for a week plus. A heavy regimen of narcotics and muscle relaxers gets me moving and then lots of stretching and moving.

You aren't going to want to hear this but drinking and dehydrating will make the back pain worse.

Chiropractic is not usually the answer to this sort of thing.

See a regular MD and have them send you out for a CT scan and an MRI.

You need to know if you have a bulging disk or something like that. It sounds like what I had at about your age. I got mine being formerly as strong as an Ox and just about as smart. Took me about 4 1/2 years to get it back to normal via PT and careful management, though I am much more careful 15 years on.

Note to self. Take your wallet....make it thinner. No cash in the billfold, ditch the pictures, and the myriad of other crap you carry in it. That lump on your ass, tilts your hips while sitting and this was some of the best advice I ever got about my back..

Hope you feel better...and buy a Toyota.

This....^^^^ and if you have access to, or can get a decent inversion table, it helps heal back injuries for me in a short amount of time Dave. just make sure you wear shoes when using one so your ankles don't hurt. Hope you feel better buddy!

Chiropractors, CT's and cat scan's don't always show what is really going on. Ask me sometime how I know. Weight loss and regular exercise will go miles farther than many other options outside of you are just f'd up and need repair. Hope you feel better soon Dave.

MRI will show you the soft tissue which give a great picture of what is going on.

Dave,

All the advice about getting the tests, (MRI, CT scan, ETC)to determine what is going on is good advice.
Don't wait.
It can get worse.
If you need some relief and that pool is full put on a ski vest and get in the water, in the deep end where your feet are dangling under you and you are in the standing position...it'll decompress the load on the spine. Spend 30 min a couple times a day in there.
I would also think about buying some GOOD shoes, like Asics Gel Katan 20s (about $160) or comparable.
If the docs clear you, my suggestion is simple.
Start walking, every day.
Walking is what keeps me mobile, especially in the winter when the cold gets me down. It'll loosen things up back there, the days you want to do it the least are the days it will help the most.

Suprised you didn't just hook up a tow strap and tow the car home. This is the promise land of AZ after all.

Lose weight like others have said. I went through a bout of time when my back was giving me so much pain it was nuts. Lost weight and haven't had any sense.

My back pain comes when my ass muscles and hamstrings are really tight. And I don't know what type of back pain you guys get but when mine is bad Advil is worthless.

Same here. Lifetime of construction work and surfing/sports/dirtbikes etc no worries even now but getting older is starting to suck. Stretching is key for me , even just the old school gym stretches for the low back and hamstrings. My back is still perfect most of the time, except for when it gets that low rusty hinge from not stretching or paddling into a wave late. Crossfit tore me up pretty good a few years back with some whiplash which for me connected to the hammies so I backed off on that. Work's been off the hook the last 5 years so back to traditional work out stuff which seems helpful. Light deadlifts help mine out . Keeping the core strong helps recover faster IMO. Everyone's different though with disc issues...genetics and such:rolleyes

I'll jump in with the ole advice here too.

I get bad back pain every now and then. ..last time it was from bending over to tie my boots. Eff gettin old:skull

I bought an inversion table from cost-mo and it only takes 3-4 min of hanging to get me back to feeling good again
