Since the Raptor in Paso Robles didn't pan out, I found another in Menifee, I'm supposed to meet the guy on Saturday and want to know if anyone can recommend a mechanic that's open on Saturday that can check the truck out if I bring it to him. Also is there a CarFax source here on the board?

Thanks in advance.

Even if there was a Car Fax source…I bought two cars from highly reputable dealers with clean Car Fax reports. The BMW had been in two previous collisions (one with an air bag deployment). The Dealership I bought it from repaired one of the collisions. The Jag had also been in two collisions. I have access to the national Insurance database and all four collisions were listed there. I wouldn’t wipe my ass with a Car Fax report.

How did you find out about the other collision on the BMW and the collisions on the Jag? I guess a qualified mechanic is the hot ticket?

Through a friend, I have access to the National Insurance Database. It is not available to the public. It will list every accident by VIN, the cost and nature of the damage, the names of the parties involved and a description of the collision. In both cases I checked the database after buying the vehicles with clean Car Faxes and clean Auto Check reports. The BMW was sold by the dealer new and traded back in. It was a year old when it had the air bag deployment. It got a new radiator and A/C condenser, bumper, grill, tie bar and intercooler. It was repaired in their body shop. Needless to say I was pissed.

I looked quick. Figured it was at a Ford dealer haha

that’s fine if it’s in a Ford dealership but why would they put the warning labels back onto a used truck with 48,000 miles on it?

It isn't at a Ford dealer from the way the ad reads.

I understand, I was merely pointing out the fact that every photo that’s in the ad looks like it was copied and pasted from a brand new truck at a dealership, that’s why I pointed out the warning labels on a used truck and let’s not forget the window sticker too

I did realize that those photos were from a new truck on the dealership lot. He says that the truck is just as clean, he's added the lights in the bumper, a spray-in bedliner, and a bed cover, never been off road. He told me that I could take it to a mechanic and if anything is wrong with it he'll pay to have it repaired - this is why I want a good mechanic to take a look at this. Too good to be true or is he just motivated and needs the money?

I have a pretty good shop in Canyon Lake that will do you right, but they are not open on Saturday.

Maybe you can have the guy take it there during the week?

You did see photos of the actual truck right?

No wonder he didn’t post current pics of the truck, he had every Amazon truck accessory available. He had a stupid stick-on hood protector, window visor vents, lame hood cowl lights, cheap ass sequential turn signal lights in the fog light bumper pockets, a loud ass Flowmaster, and to top it off cheesy ass blue spiky lug nuts.
The search will continue.

I had to pay the price for the right one-Looked at many, and ended up paying sticker price (73k) for a 2019 with 10500 miles. Flawless truck, some nice add ons like the bed cover and rigid front bumper lights. Loaded truck with every option-traded keys for my 2022 F250 Tremor POS. Could not be happier.

Buying a used vehicle private party is such a pain in the ass right now.

I probably drove 1000 miles and rented a trailer 3 different times for nothing.

First truck, even though I'd specifically asked about rust, and the seller assured me over the phone had none, was a rust bucket with peeling paint that was not visible in the pictures.

2nd truck, supposedly had a "stuck valve and no compression on one cylinder, but otherwise clean" had a $600 paint job (the seller bragged about the deal he got...and showed me pictures of the rusty roof and hood before the paint job)....

3 more with salvage titles that weren't disclosed in the ad or the phone call.

countless scams

I miss the days of the Recycler....never had this much trouble back then.

Recycler was great they came out every Thursday, I found my 69 fastback in 1998 in the recycler. The ad said 1969 Ford 350.00 obo. I called the guy and....

Me: Is it a Mustang?

Him: Yes

Me: Is it a fastback?

Him: What's a fastback?

Me: What's your address, I'll be there as soon as I'm off work.

I offered him 300.00 and he took it.

I know, I know, I should be in jail for theft🤣

I found countless cars there.

Favorite was a 71 nova.

Ad said “‘71 chevy 55”. I called out of curiosity…

Nova with all the SS stuff, stout 468, 4spd, 12 bolt posi…$2000 in about ‘99.

I just wished it wasn’t a Saginaw 4spd…I changed gearboxes more than I changed the oil.

Because it’s not in my garage and I don’t have a garage currently 😂. That’s one for my bucket list.

What Happened to the One in Paso?
As I made it to Van Nuys I got a pit in my stomach that I shouldn’t purchase this truck. It’s never happened to me before, usually I’m pretty excited about a new truck. I got off the freeway, turned around and came back home.

I do miss the Recycler and the the original printed AutoTrader - every Thursday they came out around lunchtime, I remember checking out ads for the hot deals during the remainder of lunch and then when I got home I’d call on them. The problem with the AutoTrader was that all the ads were random and you had to look through ALL of the ads a few times to make sure you didn’t miss anything.
