Was out at the lake today doing some "super secret" testing (video is on our instagram from today) and messing with the Gopros trying to get some good footage. Unfortunately one of the Gopros let go and is sitting at the bottom of beautiful Lake Elsinore, probably mutating or something.... Anyways what have you guys done to better secure your Gopros rather than just relying on the suction cup. Any help, suggestions, whatever is much appreciated:D Thanks in Advance!

Always a string tied to something sturdy and a float. The orange float you can buy from go pro is not enough though. It will sink without something with more flotation.

Floaty back door at least, but will still sink with the suction mount. A piece of para- cord secured to something solid is what we use on the Heli.

It's not pretty, but in a pinch I zip tied four foam key floats to the mount and one to the gopro. Seems like that was the magic number to float the whole entire thing. I also have a leash that I made out of rope and carabeeners. The small carabeener is perfect size for the suction mount, you just have to unscrew one of the tightening bolts and then screw it back in with a carabeener between the mount and the plastic tightening bolt (it's too small to fit over the plastic part.

Edit: great video btw!!

I use zip ties or 550 cord (para cord) on the helicopter.

I use a nylon cord, much like para-cord, but I bought it at West Marine. Tied off from the suction cup rig to a cleat. Worked. :thumbup:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9vN7tJs-dM"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9vN7tJs-dM

Straight up duct tape.. We run them on the drag boats at over 260mph with the suction mounts. Just put duct tape over the suction piece in a little square. It wont go anywhere.

I don't believe in tying it off to the boat. If that suction cup gives, you'll be dragging and banging the camera on the gelcoat until you realize it's off. Install 1 floatie on the back door and 1 on the mount. It floats.

That sucks, sorry to hear that...at least mine has company down there now :rolleyes. Mine went down with the floaty back door attached :thumbsdown

If you call the GoPro customer service they will have you write them a letter explaining what happened and will give you a discount on another one. When i told them i lost mine they gave me 40% off a brand new one along with 1 free mount or accessory of my choice.:thumbsup:thumbsup

if you tie ANYTHING to the case it will rattle around and the microphone especially inside of the water proof case is suuuuuuppper sensitive. kiss your audio goodbye. i had a boat key floatie on my gopro once and all you could hear was the rattling sound.

I've seen go pros duct taped to 200+ mph aircraft.

I recommend Eliminator not use portable Camera system, and install a permanent system the operator can remotely switch.

Make it a featured part of the poker run package, and call it a day.

Kodak makes a float that will keep it at water level with the suction cup mount for about $10
This is what I use and it's been tested

I may try that on the helicopter. Don't want to loose it, but I also don't want it hanging by cord beating the crap out of my helicopter.

Zip ties or rope or string. I never rely on the attachment itself. My son had it fall off a helmet once to prove that point. Probably part of their plan to keep selling new ones.

x2..

If you're careful about the suction cup, those things are on there pretty damn good. I've had them on the decks of boats at over 180 mph with no problems.
