Quality and service was a coin toss.
Covid pretty much killed it off.

Condescending tourist town arrogance from the Danish employees didn’t help ensure repeat business.

Getting rid of them didn’t stop the decline.

It had a hotel and took up half a square block. Had the Solvang charm.

The Santa Nella location is far better. Consistent good food quality. Superb bakery.
At one time had the most awesome unique kiddyland for little kids. For some reason they took a bulldozer to it.
Hope that location stays open.

Ate at that location a month ago. It was in pretty bad shape, think the people who worked there knew it was closing.

I’m not surprised.

We were just up there wine tasting a few months ago and stayed at their hotel next door. The restaurant building looked like not much maintenance had been done over the last 5 or 10 years. Hopefully that building gets saved. It’s a piece of California History!!

Just reading there is still one in Santa Nella. So if you have a hankering for some pea soup you're in luck!

I never liked split pea soup.

Agreed.
But went in there, one time while camping with a group, maybe a Pizmo trip, and somebody, probably the women, oh, let’s go to Anderson’s. Had a pea soup, just because, and it was surprisingly really good. Never been able to duplicate the experience.🤢

Only went in there once. From what I remember even the carpet was a 100 years old. Never understood Solvang much either.

We used to stay at the Flying Flags Campground on our way to Pismo buying time to align our entry with the tides.

My parents wanted to go every year when we went to Pismo or Solvang. Then my wife wanted to go and I was able to veto that about 50% of the time.

I didn’t like the pea soup there, or anywhere 😁

Something iconic about passing those billboards driving up the 101. I read that the billboard nearest the restaurant is a historical landmark and can't be torn down. I don't know how that will work once the restaurant is gone.

Supposedly the hotel is staying but the restaurant property will be turned into stores and condominiums real estate prices are insane anywhere near Santa Barbara so there's that.

Add this to the list of places white people used to go when they're used to be white people!

I remember going there 50 yrs ago as a little kid. We'd stop there driving back and forth to my Grandparents house in Santa Cruz. One of the road trip highlights each time. Sad......

I like pea soup, But I haven’t had in 30-35 years!

My mom liked to make soup when the weather turned cold - turkey soup after thanksgiving, split pea soup, tomato soup and a few Chinese soups

Mom even made a Bean w/ bacon soup after Easter

I remember the Mammoth one and the Carlsbad one. Over the years I think I ate in all of them. Bummer.
Yup, my Mom took us all the time as kids when we were at Mammoth on weekend ski trips!🤮

My wife is the only one who can make better split pea soup. 👍

Never been to the one on 101, but Santa Nella is a planned pit stop when we travel to So-Cal to race...

Bummer, I remember my dad taking me there on the way to see my uncle graduate from Berkeley. That was in the 80’s.

I love Anderson’s pea soup and always enjoyed stopping at the restaurant (on 101). Another of my fond childhood memories wiped from the earth.🥲

… I guess it was on the way back from a formula 5000 Race at Laguna Seca… Probably 68 or 69 ???And I talked one or two of the carloads of guys who had gone to the races …I talked everybody into stopping because I love split pea soup… Now that I think about it … there may have been only one carload of people who stopped …we were towing a formula C car with a 61 Buick… The bottom line to the story is …I was the only one that ordered split pea soup…🤔

We would go in while camping at Flying Flags, probably 6-8 years ago they took the ham out of the soup and it tasted like dirty water. Definitely the end of an era.

Proposed to my wife in solvang 30years ago. Always wanted to stop at Anderson and try it. Finally made a trip and stayed in Anderson hotel. Ate at the. Restaurant. Luckily I was lit and enjoyed the company with other hotel guest. Food was bland & service subpar. Wife had came out of the hotel feeling discriminated at check in. She had never
told me that for as long as we been together.

Looks like they might be planning a remodel.
The Inn is still open and owned by a different company from what I’m reading.
I hope it is a remodel. We stop there often to from Paso or Santa Cruz and pick soup and pastries for later.
