Haven’t fired up the generator in a year and a half or so.
And when I did it was a bitch because I left pump gas in it. About a year.
Took a few squirts of quick start. It started but wasn’t too happy. Drained the fuel and put in some fresh-ish fuel.
Ran it about 20 minutes, turned off the fuel and put it away.

Today I get a text about 1 from the wife, power out since 8:30 or so.

Get home close to 3, had a beer and dragged the generator out of the shed.

Turned on the fuel, waited a minute
Turned on the choke, flipped the switch to on, and gave it a tug.
And another tug
And it fired up on the 3rd.

The fuel was some left over VP fuel from the March 21 Glamis trip. Pretty sure. It may have been 22.

Point here. When you put away the gas powered junk you don’t use often, store it with good fuel.
Not the shit you find at the pump.

The generator is an old ass Coleman.
It’s loud as fuck.

@sintax is at least a 1/4 mile down the road, he can probably hear it if he steps out front 😂

I didn't realize how fast this ethanol shit degrades until I fucked up my knee and parked my DRZ400 for a month....then decided to sell it. It would start, but wouldn't idle off choke. Was about ready to rip the carb off (PITA) when I decided to try fresh gas. Drained the tank and poured in some new stuff....ran like new.

In a sealed container it seems to do better, but vented/exposed to atmosphere, it doesn't live long.

Store it dry. I needed my generator years ago when we lost power, and the carb was fucked up by ethanol. Luckily it was a Honda, and it still started and ran through the night, but it ran like shit (had to replace the carb). I empty all my generators after use now and run the carb completely dry.

I've used it and it doesn't seem to help much.

For stuff that see's occasional use, just plumb in a tank drain....after you're done running it, drain the tank, run it out of gas, then dump in a bit of that overpriced canned fuel from Home Depot that lasts forever....fire it up to get that running through the carb, shut it down and put it away. Or AV gas, race gas, non-ethanol, whatever is available. Next time you need it fill it up with whatever from the pump and wash/rinse/repeat when done.

I have a dual fuel generator and it's never seen gasoline, and won't unless I really need to for some reason.

Same here, my duel fuel generator will only see gas in an extreme emergency.

I actually drain the tank at the end of the season (around march) and run the carb dry, I then put a little true fuel in it and run it till it dies and store it. The following Nov I put pump fuel in it and it fires right up.

I always run a little Avgas through any generator or gas powered equipment that sits for any length of time before I put it away. Avgas does not breakdown and clog up the carb. Generator fires up every single time.

The non ethanol 91 in Parker is $4 a gallon. A gallon at lowes is $23.

Just brought home 10 gallons. Have 2 Yamaha quads that sat for 11 years. The gas turned solid. I had to chisel out. Bought new carbs fuel lines and fuel valves. Have not tried them yet. Didn't want to put any CA gas in them.

Just got home from picking up another 110. Registration on it is 2011. Might have to do the same.

Everything I have at the river is currently running 91 non ethanol. Bought 120 gallons 2 trips ago.

You are so right! A lot of my buddies will run 110 from the pump in their generators just because there are no issues with the storage. If you store pump gas, the carb will have a white chalky substance in the bowl and throughout. I only run my kids bikes and quads on 110 and they can sit for a while.

I have that exact same genny. Yes it’s loud but I bought it to replace a generator that was powered by a 11hp Briggs and Stratton so back then I thought the Coleman was ultra quiet.

I have a Honda that will sit with the same fuel for a few months. Never drained carb it fires right up.

Also a ai power2000 it too can sit with same fuel for a few months fires right up as well.

I do start them up once a month let them run a few minutes out back away. I’ve never been one to drain carbs and never had any issues. All pump has 87.

My daughter called me at 3am this morning to tell me that their generator shut off and her husband can't be reached. (SCE Lineman)
Her husband wired up their Costco Pulsar 4k watt genny and had it running all day, topped it off with fuel before he got called out. I image this thing sounds about how you are describing. I told her not to open the freezer and go grab some blankets...You're not got to freeze to death LOL! We can figure this shit out later...

I've been throwing race gas in my little 140 for a few years now for this reason. Only takes a couple of weeks for the carb in that thing to get gummed up on pump gas. My daughter's call this morning got me thinking... I haven't started my 5k gen for over a year now. What fuel did I put in it when I stored it??? Shit, hopefully I at least dumped some additive in the tank. I'll have to pull it out and try to get the ol' girl fired up.
