That was something to see .... I watch so many movies that show bodies flying after being shot so dramatically and this guy just slowly ambered off with no jolt from force of 3 bullets entering at such close range.

Daughters Ex-boyfriend. No criminal charges. Apparently there is 911 audio too...

In CA the homeowner would have been charged with murder and a hate crime. And the media would have spun it that the boyfriend was actually gay.

That sucks. Maybe just fire one round as warning? The kid might then realize they weren't playing around. I get it, that's a legal shooting, but probably not a necessary one.

Heck, maybe that guy has beaten the daughter up a few times and he is a scumbag. Hard to be OK with that without knowing the facts.

Well the 911 audio has her asking her dad if He's [Ex Boyfriend] going to kill her, he was shouldering their door after being told the dad had a gun and was not stopping. A warning shot can get you killed. Only thing that is slightly tough is he turned around before the third round, dad should have been faster on the trigger.

The warning shot may cost you your life. Plus, you never know where that shot ends up. Better to just hit the perp.
The warning should have been clear when they didn't unlock the door for his ass.

You must not own guns or had any training because that is not what your taught from any legit instructor. You shoot until the threat is neutralized. In this case not until he’s well away from the door.

Anyone who is breaking into a home in broad daylight with occupants inside the home warning him is not of sound mental state.

You breach my door and are unwanted and I’m gonna ten-ring your ass every time.

In '87 or so, my Pop's friend had something very similar happen. Daughter's estranged husband pounding on the door, threatening to kill her, etc...
Pop's friend, who is a guy I ended up working with years later, warned the guy, "...if you come through that door, I'm going to shoot you."
The guy broke through the door, and made it two or three steps...wife and grandkids were in a bedroom, the last thing he saw was a pissed off father and a muzzle flash.

This happened in Azusa Ca. It cost the poor guy about three years of his life, and had to take a second out for the legal fees (and survival, as even as a roofer, pending murder or manslaughter cases make it tough to get work) I met a lot of assholes in roofing. This was not one of them. A nice guy, a man of his word...as his son in law found out.

I can't imagine what a shitstorm it would be now:(

FUCK....THAT....TURD. You do not go to someone's home as the EX boyfriend and try to break through the front door after obviously being warned. If his mindset is he can break through your door, imagine what his mindset must have been with anything related to the ex girlfriend.

All that happened here was some girl was saved from years of domestic abuse if not death.

We need more details on the Kid. Was He threatening to kill her? Abusive? Known to carry.

If it was his first girlfriend and just broken heart. But known by the family as a Great kid otherwise.

I'm a proud member of the Bandwagon . . . more stupid mother fuckers need to be shot in this day and age for doing stupid shit.
I don't give 2-shits who's son, nephew, brother, he was, and how 'Johnny was such a good boy', or 'He just needed some help and was misunderstood' blah-blah-blah. He looked old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. (pretty simple concept that seems to be all but lost nowadays)
The mother fucker was trying to break down the door, even after the dad told him to get off the porch, and that he had a gun. Zero Common Sense. (Prob. on drugs)
These are often the same people who go on to do worse and worse crimes . . . why? . . . because there is no accountability . . . let alone punishment, so they get emboldened and go on to do the same shit over and over, and it often escalates.
Why should the public pay the price, cause some lunatic can't keep his shit together?
There has to be a stopping point . . . and this kook unfortunately found it. Tragic, absolutely.

I was just as fucked-up as a teen as the next guy . . . but I had my limits, and always understood there's certain things you simply just don't do, no matter what, period.
Sure, I got all spun-out a time or 2 when a chick dumped me . . . but jesus, I never went to a chicks house and tried to break down the fucking front door! This is ridiculous.

Now a days, it's anything goes, and all the bleeding hearts always come up with fucking excuse for the persons shit box behavior and actions.

Smash and grabs - Shoot em
Riots/ burning businesses - shoot em
Home invasions -shoot em.

As my buddy says, 'Stop the Insanity'.

This is just sad in my opinion. I agree that the shooter did the right thing in protecting his home and family, but im not climbing on board the "he deserved what he got" bandwagon. This is a tragedy. The death of a young man who may have been in a fucked up state of mind possibly over a break up with his girlfriend. Everyone loses in a situation like this, and the families will be trying to put it in their rear view for the rest of their lives.
I'll jump in at this statement after following this interesting thread.... I think what we've learned through this thread and incident is there are two camps of opinions on this shooting, right fellas. And it clearly defines our positions on such incidents and also reveals how devided our country is today. But thats cool... we all have a right to our own opinions on matters.

He had the right to kill him. I would need more details to give my opinion if killing him was the right thing to do in this situation. Not saying he was wrong in what he did. He will have to live with it.

And Yes I have been in similar situations twice where someone was trying to get through my front door with intent. I chose not to kill them. Years later looking back I am glad I didn't kill them. Actually became like family to one of them.

Definitely two sides. I'm always curious (legitimately) about what @NicPaus and @Letsride22 would do in this situation? Your daughter is on the phone with 911, there is an ex boyfriend literally breaking down your front door and you would have the guy do what exactly?

Ask him nicely to leave? You already did that...
Put something between him and your daughter? You already did that...

What's next?

Honestly curious in what you would have done in this situation. I understand we don't have backstory but someone broke through your front door while you and your family were inside, on with 911 and he was not stopping as you told him to?

EDIT-I'm being sincere, I like to get others opinions and it's much better to have these things thought through beforehand :)

Neighbor next door was on phone with 911. I knew who they were. Saw them on my cameras. I opened up the door with my gun. After a few pops over there head and at there feet they ran. 1 guy literally ran out of his shoes. I got 2 bats, a few bricks, a shovel, tazer, pair of shoes out the deal. They had pre meditated the attack so no charges filed against me.

In this situation I would of opened the door with gun drawn on him. Probably pistol whipped him to knock some sense into him. If I knew he was carrying or could be. Shot a few rounds through the door at his legs.

I appreciate your take on the situation. I can think of a few reasons those may not be the best ideas but I understand everyone has differing opinions.

Lot of would have should haves. Why is a victim expected to wait until the agressor comes to his senses or takes the gun and kills someone.

Lesson here is dont break down the door and expect the red carpet

How many family's in America are living without their child because no one ever dreamed it would go that far?

I'm of the strongly held belief the world is and has always been a crazy place. When I go through my front door I leave that behind and I want my family to feel the same way.

If you are threatening that sense of security you will be met with an equal to greater force.

Should have used something a bit bigger... Shot 3x at point blank range, and still walking away? Wouldn't happen with 12g 00buck!

Time to bring back home defense 6lb smooth bore cannons! Dead, and relocated all in one semi inconvenient step!
True...but in this case all of the blood mess was transported to the driveway where it will weather off. 😉

I get what you are trying to say. The truth is that if you are so fragile minded as to BREAK INTO HER HOUSE after she said it's over...you deserve to be buried in a ditch.

Someone, somewhere failed to raise you right, and it's not our job as a society to fix it, or allow your fucking mentally ill ass to just run around rampant while you take meds to maybe control your idiocy.

For every mother fucker that got away with that kind of bullshit and is out there now beating up women, molesting kids, drowning bags of kittens and chaining up helpless dogs in the backyard, here's your fucking warning.

Usually in life you only get one or two. His was "I'm armed! I'll shoot you if you break in!".

He failed to listen.

Great Uncle was shot pointblank in the chest and survived.
Don't remember the caliber. But the story I heard was his wife hired some dude to kill him. Dude shows up and knocks on the door. Uncle opens the door and dude puts the shotgun to his chest and pulls the trigger.
Uncle shuts the door and dude takes off. 300+lb 6'4" Uncle gets to the phone and calls for an ambulance.
If i remember correctly, im pretty sure it didn't go through him.
Im going to have to ask my old man.
