Not to hijack but put yer fkn hands up.. has anyone been able to quit nicotine?

I quit smoking cigs 8 years ago, ate altoids like candy and used nicorette to wean off.

Went probably a year without. Then I started vaping like an idiot. Now I Zyn and vape.

I've tried quitting a few times but I get foggy, can't think straight, and that kills me at work. Which can't happen, so I always dive right back in.
You already quit once, you can do it again. You might want to try and get your nicotine levels down a little before you try though, with those two products I'm thinking your nicotine levels must be off the charts. I quit 12 years ago after about 40 years of 1-2 packs a day, but for the last two years it was ultra lights. I also used Nicorette, the lozenges, but only outside so I could spit. Only used them about a month, then weaned and tossed them.

… I quit drinking, maybe 92 to 94… Didn’t quit for any particular reason …possibly because my live in girlfriend the Playboy bunny didn’t drink… Still hung out at the same bar… Still hung out with the same people… Didn’t phase me at all… Although the owner of the bar said you’re $400 a month is sorely missed… Keep in mind that was early ‘90’s money…
… About a week after I quit drinking… I thought it was time to quit smoking as I was a two packs of Camel regulars a day smoker…
… I don’t miss the nightly drinking at all… .Over the subsequent years people would come over to my house and we would do tequila shooters or maybe a beer… But now at my age… I will be 79 in a couple of weeks… There really is nobody left to drink with…🤷🏽‍♀️… Hmmm???…

In the words of Bill Burr. “Alright you were right, now fix me!” 🤣.

I’m truly humbled and honored by the support I’ve received here, through PMs, texts etc. Sadly drinking just stopped working for me and started causing a lot more harm than good. Time to rectify the wrongs and get back to enjoying life.

My little “retreat” ends tomorrow. Not sure when my high horse and ivory tower arrive but I will keep everyone posted 😁😉.

In all seriousness I’m happy for myself and have zero interest in telling anyone else how to live.

Once again thank you guys so much for the support. ❤️

I’ve got a ton of respect for how you approached it and recognized it. Keep at it dude. It won’t always be easy but you’re kicking it’s ass 🙌🏼

Glad to see you back and happy that you recognized a problem and delt with it to make yours and the people's lives around you better. You need to be here for that little girl, she's reason enough to do what you did.

Good for you. I quit drinking 4 years ago when I realized alcohol was the one thing that could take all my hard work and throw it away in an instant. I didn’t like who I was when I was drunk.

I has so many friends and family tell me it wasn’t bad and I was too hard on myself but I knew it was going south. Best decision I made for my family was to put them first. Everything I do is for them but drinking was for me. That was selfish and took time to realize it enough and make a change.

Haven't had a sip since 11/2/24.

The big issue I was having when drinking, was crazy anxiety the next morning. It was debilitating.

My sleep is 10000 times better, energy levels through the roof and much more clear/focused. Heartburn, bloating, lower back pain, elbow pain and hand pain are all gone.

Actually bought a bag of CBD gummies and take a couple a day to relax. I thought a drink or 5 was the best way to deal with stress, but it was actually the opposite.

Meal preps are all done and going to work on getting my 6 pack back. I was doing 100 push ups and 100 sit ups everyday, but the alcohol was counterproductive to that work.

This thread and all the responses are what initially got me thinking about cutting it out. Really glad I did it.

I have noticed the same with sleeping, more energy, clear/focused mind, and no body aches. I have been doing 25-100 jumping jacks or up to 2 mins worth of them in the am and notice a difference. Clothes are looser fitting and I feel way better overall.

That anxiety is no joke and apparently shaking it off with a morning cocktail was not the answer 🤦🏼‍♂️

Yesterday was 2 years off the sauce . . . amongst other positives, I've shed 30+ lbs. of lard off my carcass.
Wish I could give up beer and lose weight.

I drink about 15 beers a year, 5 or 6 on 7/4. My doctors look at me like I'm a lying alcoholic when I tell them that, it makes me want to throat punch them

… I sort of went out drinking with @Neighbor Girls … 26-year-old brother Friday night… he felt he wanted/needed a beer… Been there done that… We had gone to Harbor freight to get tire covers for my Spectra 24’s trailer…As he had helped me replace the silver tarp with visqueen under it..,covers on that and my Sanger Runner Bottom …Took him to the Foxfire on Chandler and maybe Whittset… In I guess it’s Studio City…or maybe Valley Village…Most of the clientele was 55 to 60 and very overweight… some people were genuinely having fun… But the majority of them …not so much???… it used to be one of the go to places in the late 80s and 90s…🤷🏽‍♀️…(I have a very lengthy story about that place … for another time)…We had a couple of large draft Modelo‘s… Really had a hard time getting the second one down… Is this going to become a habit with me???…I don’t think so…. But my 26 year old drinking buddy really liked the vibe of the place…because he could relax… If he wants to become a regular that’s entirely up to him… but I will try to discourage him from it…

There's a place near my house that sounds similar . . . a 'once popular' popular joint, turned shit hole . . . . a few years back I was in there and remember saying to myself, 'The only thing I share in common with the people in here besides the drinking, is the air we're breathing'. Nobody smiling or laughing, just a bunch of complainers bitching about one thing or another . . . they should change the name to 'The Bummer Tent' 😆

A friend was a bartender at the Foxfire until he bought a bar in Toluca Lake, there are some professional drinkers in that place. Dailyholics.
