Bullshit you can get both in La we can put up a little fence if you need it 🤔😂😎
Lol
LA you can sneak “protection” in to defend yourself, Mexico not so much
And no cash bail, no gun enhancements, so LA is better for that and better Mexican food 🤣
Beaches? Mexico wins that

Big deal. Local police extortion is always there. Everyone knows to have payoff money ready. $100/$50 even and they would have been done.

Now if that was the cartel, you got a fucking problem.

Five hundred seems a bit steep for that little deal.. lol

people were wondering why I was so stoked on that troncones place in Mexico. It’s because it was nothing like that!

Well there goes a 1/3 of their stimulus check.

Last time over the border ( years ago) we were interrogated like that. I had nothing in the truck, but the Mexican border cop says, get out of the truck. He grabbed my center console with the cup holders and ripped it out to see if anything was hidden under it. He walked off leaving us outside the truck wondering what was next. After 5 minutes he returned and said, leave.

I swore at that point I needed to leave my temperament in the USA.

2 times in a Mex jail when i was younger (and a lil out of control) the latter of the two in Ensenada was bad. Almst blead out in that one. Guns, knives and broken glass. I dnt take kindy to being harassed. Not so fun times looking back. That shit cured me of that place for life.

My family had a 3 house compound, overlooking the ocean near Colonet. Had it for 20 years until one day some local said, "get off my land", and the family had 24 hours to move. We took the family tractor and bulldozed all 3 houses, and of course, the land owner then said he didn't want it. A 5 year court battle ensued, spent $500K on attorneys, and lost the case. The houses were rebuilt 1/2 mile away, my son inherited the entire estate, and he walked away from it. I get it, way down south, things are certainly different. Beautiful people, beautiful culture, but same fucked up government.

Inflation.... cost me $10 to pay off a San Felipe cop for trailer tail light out in the late 1980s

Another time...south of the border

A couple guys and I drove to Cabo in the 80s.. A friend drove his Uniflite (the "Tio Lee") to Cabo for the winter and needed a vehicle while he was there so we volunteered to drive a truck to Cabo

On the way down we stopped in Ensenada to get our papers validated... the office was closed so we said.. what the fuk and proceeded south

3 days and nights of great times, small town food and drink and no issues...... until ..........

Few more days of fishing and drinking.. it was all good until we had to fly home and did not have the proper validation.... which we failed to get in Ensenada..

"No problem" our skipper said....

Off we go to the Cabo immigration office.. It cost us a "Tio Lee" ball cap to get our papers fixed..... good times

Sounds awfully similar to what happened across the lake in Havasu City when the indians booted everyone off! Plain sucks!

Actually, that is where my mobile home is. In 1996?, the Indians raised the rent 4 fold. Us whities revolted, but 80% of us retained an attorney, and continued with our monthly rent, into an escrow account through the attorney. There was 20% of the folks who thought they would skate and not pay a dime during the revolt. When the dust settled, all residents who made their normal monthly rent payments into the escrow account were welcomed back. Only the 20% who tried to cheat the Indians were kicked off the property, permanently.

That was the standard TJ shake down.... nothing more.... I had to learn that way as well. Hated watching that but the van would always be shaken down and those rosta hairdos are an invitation for sure. When I saw them go get all that cash exchanged I figured they didn't know to hide the bulk of it. Unfortunately they'll come back penniless and will never return to Baja ..... That stop could've been a $50 bribe in experienced hands. Learning curve

I spend a ton of time in Baja, both northern Baja and Southern Baja. Probably in Baja 7-10 times a year and I've never had an issue. Of course not having an issue is a little bit luck, but also a lot about behavior, We don't do anything we wouldn't so here in the states, and we also take some extra precautions, like being alone at night, or driving at night. We always stop at the border and get our FMM cards, which is a simple process and takes no time.
If you are pulled over for an infraction, you always tell the officer you want to go to the station, never pay the extortion fee, and 99% of the time, you will be let go.
Those 2 made 2 mistakes, they should have told the "narcotics" guy to take them to the court house, and they should have told the cop the same regarding their seatbelt infraction.
Baja isn't for everyone, but I for one love it down there and love the people and culture.

Exactly. And there was a reason the Pendejo cop jumped in the van solo and hid out of site of his colleagues. He wanted know one to see his dumbass.

Whenever I am in Baja, I keep a 50$ dollar bill hidden on me for Bribe. Some will try to say "no way, ask for the Judge etc". To me its worth $50 to move on my way. I look at it as a toll charge.

Only had to use it once, 20 years ago in TJ. But that's because I was walking down an alley I shouldnt have been and was younger and buzzed. Lesson learned!

Yup, you my friend are very generous.... I tuck a $20 as only visible money in my wallet, hiding anything larger. Tell em I dropped all my cash at Porta Nuevo on lobsta and thats all I got. Its typically a 10 minute inconvenience. Just doing our part to assist in local economy lol.

Went to Catomar in the 70's hang gliding. Two of my buddies were lighting firecrackers on the beach. Local cop cuffed both of them and said they were going to jail. Cost us $20 per buddy to get them off. Only way I go to Mexico is to fly. Now I don't even like to do that.

Fuckin Cantamar Trailer Park, Crazy times. late summer 66', three of us head down to surf. Drunken non-uniformed security cop at Cantamar picks a fight, I win, he pulls a 45 and he wins, and I end up in the Rosarito Jail. Fuck that place.
But I did made numerous trips fishing in Cabo in the 90's, great times without a single incident.

That's where we stayed when the buddies were cuffed.
I started to go to Cabo in the 80's when the only hotels were The Hacienda, Finestera and Solimar. No marina, no stop lights, dirt road from the airport and you bought a bucket of Coronas for the trip. You always caught a Marlin.

When we went down to Mexico, we would get 10 $1.00 bills and one $5.00 bill. Roll it tight, with the $5.00 outward, and rubber band it tight. We'd throw it on the dash so if pulled over, we'd point to the money and all fines cost us $15. Worked every time.

That's when I really enjoyed Cabo, old Cabo and giant lobsters out at the Trailer Park. Mean looking teen soldiers with M16 at the scales  I stayed at the old Finestera once, loved drinking beers watching the frigate birds dive bomb the bait schools off the beach. Then we found cheap, but really clean rooms at the Mar De Cortez downtown and it wasn't many stumbles from the Marlin Club 😂

Club Bar Miramar and Rueben's! Brings back some great memories of the early 80's. Both places that were easy places to get in trouble!!!!

Kid I went to high school with got busted running drugs by Tijuana Police. He was surfing Baja Malibu several times a week and bringing back heroin in his truck. He got caught and ended up doing time in La Mesa in downtown TJ. His family didn't have enough money to buy his way out of his sentence. I used to go down there with his brother to visit him every couple months. That place was crazy, but actually pretty safe for Americans at the time. They all lived on the same floor together, one floor below the cartel guys. He got moved to El Hongo once that opened, and got out a couple years later. El Hongo is a Mexican version of Pelican Bay east of Tecate.
