1959 for me.... growing up in the '60's & '70's was a great time.

Never had a house key cause we didn't lock the door.

New 1961 Corvair station wagon, 1967 Mustang and a color TV with a remote the size of a shoe box. Taking tubes from the TV to the drug store to fix it on our own.

My Dad whistled when it got dark and I ran home.... new knobby tire on my Monarch Maurader bicycle.

Honda Trail 70 was my first motorcycle.. brand new and my mom was pissed that my Dad had his boss give it to me for Christmas.

Helms Bakery Truck, Ice Cream man, Water Wiggles and Slip-n Slides.

RC cola after playing street football. Getting up when it was dark to go fishing. Getting to go to work with my Dad during the summer and getting paid a dollar (cash) by the boss for a hard days work.

Damn those were good days and I wish my kids could have experienced them.

57 here, man i remember that well.

I loved building models, and listening to Dodger games on the radio, on a hot Sunday afternoon.

Blow up pools. Schwin Orange Crate bike in the store window I woulda done ANYTHING for.

Tree houses were so f'n cool. My dad's Crestliner boat was bad azz.

Fights were done with fists, and the only guns used were the hunting guns in the closet.

Good days my friends, good days.

Born in 1959 here.

I remember everyday of summer waking up, jumping on my stingray, grabbing my 2 best friends and heading to the school across the street for a pick-up baseball game. We would play until it was time to go home for dinner......man those days were great!

I remember going to Candlestick park with my friends when I was 9 or 10 and sitting in the bleachers in center field. In those days you could walk right up to the fence and the likes of Willie Mays and Bobby Bonds would come over and ask you your name, do play baseball and then maybe even sign your Hat or a ball..........Priceless!!!:D

Born '55 here. I remember our black & white TV with 4 stations and one station was from Windsor, Canada,,,,,,,,no remote. Oh Yeah and every Friday night it was popcorn and a RC Cola. I am sure glad I grew up in those days, so much more simple and fun.

1969 here, and i remember most of these things, the whole summer was spent on a bike,or with a shovel in hand perfecting "the jump",and drinking out of the hose because going inside for a glass would take tooo long.

Riding in the back of the truck all the way to the river after pops got off work,no camper shell,no seat belts, and no worries.

Water balloon fights with "those" kids who lived on the next street over, catching pollywogs, frogs etc,and exploring the unspoiled rolling hills and gullys, watching for snakes, and always outside.

Oh yeah,and pop rocks:cool:

76 here and gen X to the bone. My dad was born in 52 which makes me a product of all u old fogies :p With the exception of the country stuff like fire fly catching. I remember and grew up with everything that was mentioned in that slideshow. I'd like to add thing to that slideshow for southern Californians.

Do u remember playing outside so long and aggressively that it hurt to breathe while catching ur breath cause of the smog levels??

The ones missing out on these great times are the kids produced by gen X. Not all but def a majority of them.

I used to fear my moms 2 finger whistle. It could be heard in a 2 block radius  and if I dilly dalyed I'd get to walk/run the gauntlet of parents outside collecting there own kids and they'd be smacking me telling me Ooooooooooo boy ur gonna get it when u get home. This helped build the fear and gave my parents something to beat out of me :p.

Life was so much simpler is an understatement :thumbsup

Wow, 69 as well. Blast to the past. You could here my dads whistle a mile away. One whistle meant "dinner is ready", two whistles meant "get your ass upstairs with no dinner." :D

'59er here, man what a trip down the lane that takes us oldies but goodies.
Walked to grade school by ourselves, no worries about a wacko kidnapping us,
Stayed out playing after dark, no hurry to get home at all.
Rode our mini bikes in the field by the house, in the city limits, no complaints, usually an old timer would stop by and help us put the chain back on and say "be careful and have fun".
Spent all day Saturday riding our bikes around town, not a gang, just friends having a great time.
Took that quarter and walked to the corner store to buy candy or soda.

I remember my parents and grandparents telling us of their childhood and saying man what a time that would have been, now I think about my kid life and say the same thing. Life is moving along too fast and it is nice to stop and reflect on the things that made my life great growing up.

I remember being in 4th or 5th grade, taking the buss to dodger stadium, and after the game, sliding down the hill and cruising around china town. after me and my cousin got bored there, we would walk over to alvera street! grab a bite, and take the buss back home. mom asked, did you have fun today? yeah, it was a good game, sandy koufax pitched a no hitter. ;)

1968 here my friends!!

Like Shueman said, over-the-line all day, jumping bikes on homemade ramps, out at sunrise back in when the street lights kicked on, Emergency, Adam 12, doing chores for allowance, sleepovers, smog so bad you felt like you smoked a carton of Pall Mall non filter, in new home developments playing war and moving the markers around so the contractors would have to figure out what the F happened, skateboarding at the local school, the "Plunge" at Upland High. Could go on just wished the kids today had as much fun as I did.
