GMC AT4 with 3.0 duramax

Wife and I are getting my Dad a new truck for father's day. Looking at a 1500 GMC AT4 with the 3.0 baby duramax. Any real world experience with this package? Dad doesn't do any heavy towing. Occasionally hauls a late 90s Ultra from Bullhead to Catherine's Landing and a 20 ft enclosed trailer around town nothing more heavy than that.

My cousin has one and he loves it. Super fuel efficient. Pretty quiet for a diesel.

Yeah peeps will say there are some maintenance issues with a belt that is poorly placed but other than that of your buying new and it has a warranty I think you’ll be fine.

Do not run them past oil changes. They use a little oil, but it works out to being just shy of a quart at intervals. As far as new diesels go, probably the most trouble free from what I've seen.

Not the at4 but our baby max Yukon is the shit. I’m not a big car advocate guy but I tell people this package is awesome. Toes the boat great, and we get 32 mpg on the way to the lake. Last gas Yukon got 16….

These little duramax trucks/suv are a killer set up.

Had my '23 Silverado RST 3.0 for a few months now, love the truck great mileage and comfortable. I did have to take it in for warranty work, the transmission cooler line cracked (16k miles) and apparently it is a bitch to get to. Dealership had it for a week, had to drop the front diff and remove all the front fascia to get to it. $3100 to repair but it was warranty.

I have an AT4 w/ the 3.0. Just rolled 15k miles. Great driver, plenty of power… great MPG. More peppy than the 5.3.

Problem is, we use the truck for river trips but also daily for short trips around town. Diesels hate running short trips without a chance to warm up, end the new emissions equipped diesels really hate it. That's what stops me from getting one

I have the exact package. We love it does great towing too. Almost 40k miles no issues. Really nice truck.

My brother has the AT4, he lives in Arrowhead and just loves it. He came from a 6.2 Silverado and has no complaints.
Pulls his 240 Hallett up and down the hill with no issues.

That’s good to hear. I have the 6.2 Yukon and I feel pulling the boat up the hill to Arrowhead is pretty stressful on the 6.2.

I drive mine as a daily, I just get it on the freeway when I can and let it heat up, also you don't want to baby it. Drive it like you stole every now and then also and it will clear out the exhaust build up.

isnt there less towing capacity on the new AT4 as opposed to 20/21 models? I really want this truck, but worry about payload capacity with a TT and a 600 tongue weight. apparently 24 models cant be ordered with max trailer package, but i think the older ones you could.

He's driving an 07 ram with a salvage title because he hates spending money. While I agree with him sometimes you just need to enjoy some creature comforts life has to offer..he's 77 and will never do it for himself so we figured it's time to spoil him a bit.

Like mentioned in here… pretty sure the LM2 (older) got better MPG, but less HP.

LZ0 (newer) more HP, uses more DEF but supposed to have better cooling and some stronger parts

You can get the Yukon in an AT4 now and I believe with the baby max.

I meant mine wasn’t the at4, but still impressed with it for sure.

I have a 22 z71 with a LM2. Just turned 22k miles. Tows everything great. My boat, i get 19 mpg , around town I get 23 to 25 mpg. I have seen as good as 32 mpg on the open road not towing. Zero issues with the truck . I drove both engine types LM2 and LZ0 when I bought mine and could not tell the difference. There were running a deal for like $8 to $10 k off so I went with the LM2 version and haven't looked back.

It’s an average and it’s flat from San Diego to havasu but still I think the best we’ve seen was 36 but typically it over 30 for sure
