Gladiator 2 is coming. Can it be as good?

Everyone loves Tombstone. Saving Private Ryan. Pulp Fiction. Those unforgettable movies that you accidently stumble upon while scrolling the channels. You see it, you can't help but watch...at least for a few minutes. You know your favorites. Gladiator is right up there. There's a new Gladiator movie in production.

Ridley Scott in the Director's Chair again. It's been 24 years. Russell Crowe got fat. Plus he died in the original. LOL Paul Mescal takes his place. Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington are both in it as well. Connie Nielson, returns as Lucilla.

The story is of Lucius, the son of Maximus and Lucilla.

Maximus is not Lucius father.
Young Lucius is a junior, his father was Lucius Verus, who was in real life the co-emperor of Rome (with Marcus Aurelius) until he died in 169AD.

It is misleading, as it says “son of Maximus’s love, Lucila”.

What’s funny is that in real life Marcus Aurelius would be both Grandfather and Uncle to young Lucius.
Lucius Verus was an adopted brother to Marcus Aurelius, so there’s the uncle part. But Marcus Aurelius was also Lucilla’s Father so there is the Grandfather part!

Plus, being Lucilla’s step uncle, and husband, also made Lucius senior both father and uncle, and great uncle to his own son, Lucius junior.
I think I’ve got that all straight.

After Marcus Aurelius reign, there were other co-emperors, but they were the first ones.

I don't think I'll see the movie. The original was fantastic, and sequels often fail to reach that high bar. Another reason is that I expect the liberal use of CGI to create battle scenes, which will be overplayed and nonsensical.

The original film used very little CGI. It's possible to make seamless and convincing special effects without it, and I really dislike the results of 100% computer imagery.

Saw the new one yesterday...and BNAG! Maximus really was Lucius' father. Lucius' supposed father was apparently a poof.

Pretty darn good movie, not as great as the first, but enjoyable for sure.

I saw it last night with my dad. The first one is my old man's favorite. It was fun taking my dad to the movies. The movie was good. I enjoyed it, but it is not nearly as good as the first one.

X2, it was good but not great. The CGI was way more subdued and tolerable that shown on the previews.

And Lucilla is still hot AF!

IMAX in Ontario. The IMAX in Irvine Spectrum is actually the best one.

Watched it Sunday morning. Epic flick.
