I remember seeing Tornados advertised on the hood of NASCAR vehicles. Tried them on the strength of that. Hell why not, I buy Tide detergent because of M Waltrip.
Tornados used to be pretty good but somethings changed. No good anymore.
Used to find them on the roller grill at the Red Earth Fuel stop in route to Glamis.

The Morongo Casino Fuel station has Dodger Dogs and they are just as bad as at the Stadium. Maybe worse.
At the stadium try their Calif Dog instead. Now that's a Hot Dog.

I remember Sports Talk radio Superfan Ed Beiler urging his listeners to write to Dodger Stadium in protest of how bad the Dodger Dogs are and to boycott buying them. Dumbfuck Beiler didn't realize his main sponsor was Clougherty Packing co., the makers of Farmer John Hot Dogs; the Dodger Dog. He was fired on the air.

Flying J used to have Jack Links Turkey sticks.
No longer for some reason. Man they were good washed down with a Monster Energy Grapefruit or a Dr Pepper.
I used to stock up there. Picked up a dozen at a time. Now have to get them online.

Flying J in Lenwood talks up their Dennys.
One star rated. Pretty sad place. Pathetic.
We hit the Tommy's across the street instead.
Famous peoples tour buses in route to and from Vegas stop at the Flying J and not unusual for the band or celibs to head over to Tommy's too. Wife can name off a list of who we've encountered there.

Pilot-Flying-J-3.jpg

Flying J also has Egg Salad sandwiches in the cold case at the register. They look really good. Wife tried them twice and now claims "she got bit by the same dog twice." Horrible. A soup sandwich.
She doesn't eat that kinda food anyway. Damfino. I don't know anything about chix.

Worst Taco Bell in the chain is at the Glamis I10 Dillion Rd exit Shell Station.
Expensive and looks like someone sat on your food. Bad attitude too.
The Dairy Queen there is just as bad. No,,, it's worse. At one time DQ had a decent burger.
Even the 4 burgers for 5 bucks at Arco AM PM are better.

The 711 gas station 2 hot dogs and a big gulp for $2.79 sometimes works. Ya wonder how many miles the hot dog traveled on that roller grill over the past 14 hours?

Any tips, tales or takes?

I found vending machine sushi at the airport in Atlanta once...I wasn't that brave though.

I rarely eat on the road...I'd rather be hungry than have to shit myself for the next however many hours.

For some reason, The only time I eat Egg Salad Sandwiches are bought from gas stations.

I have literally made people puke because they are disgusted that I'm eating a Egg Salad Sandwich from a gas station.

Haven't gotten sick yet off those summa bitches!

It’s a fact they make you stronger. The “Parasites Lost” episode of Futurama is one of my favorites.

You guys are courageous (crazy as hell) for eating convenience store "food"

But I don't do fast food except in emergencies so there's that. I do eat In-N-Out (prefer The Habit by far) and I'll go to Costco for gas and buy/eat any of their products. Talk about hot dogs - they've got some of the best

Try the COSTCO brisket sandwich the way they serve it, no changes. It's excellent.

No longer at our location in Torrance (and I agree), it’s been replaced by a double cheeseburger for $4.99 that’s amazing!

When I was a kid in Pasadena, The owner of Farmer John was a neighbor. About a half mile south. The homes got bigger there. Champman Woods. For Halloween they gave out full size candy bars. He had a full time security guard.

The owner of Otter Pops lived next door. He had a Porsche and a Rolls Royce. He also had girlfriend. AND a wife. That didn't go so well. They moved. Separately. LOL

I tried it and hated it - threw it out after 2-3 bites. Couldn't stand the sauce they put on it. The ingredients looked great but the sauce almost made me hurl

I hate Costco hotdogs. Too much damn “report” afterwards. I cant stand burping it up for the rest of day.

But I love me some Flying J hotdogs. They are great on the road and no aftertaste. Hell if I know!

COSTCO dropped the Polish dog and the story it hit the Ch5 evening news. That and a slice of Pizza,, the price was right and good.
Best shit I ever took was at COSTCO. Trouble is all the warehouse employees fuck off and hide in the Rest Rooms stalls. After a courteous wait, I must have passed 2 lbs of mud. Felt all hollow inside afterward. Great feeling, ya couldn't tell me nothin' after that.

My usual morning stop is this cornerstone called Shortline Express, I pickup my usual morning red bull. One day I looked up and the hot food dealio had some Empenadas, I'm freaking hooked on those things now, makes for a great breakfast for the rest of my drive. One day they were sold out so I opted for the tornados, I barely made it to the jobsite before those wanted to vacate my stomach, never again.

On my way home from Eastern Washington State soon. I'll stop at a little diner for a clubhouse sandwich and onion rings. Although off the I-5 here they have a decent sushi bar. I sometimes stop at an Indian casino for the buffet.

Lenwood Flying J has the cleanest restrooms and most open diesel pumps. It's also easy to get in/out of and back onto the freeway. I like stopping there or Del Taco. Tommy's is bomb, but I usually have to pass a turb by the time I get to Ludlow.

The Mexican spot inside the giant ARCO off 86 and S22 by Ocotillo Wells has really good burritos.

I have yet to try a date shake.

The In N Out off Ramon and 10 before Chiriaco Summit is the quickest In N Out ever. I've stopped in there a few times and can't believe how fast they are for an In N Out.

Wagon Wheel is my favorite place to stop on Sunday mornings before leaving the river. Quick service, never a wait and great food! One of these days, I'm going to stop at Peggy Sues Diner.

The Gas Station at the Avi Casino in Laughlin features Pancho Villas Taco Shop.
Really good food:

Been there. Bomb!

I usually call an order into Los Amigos (next to Best Buy Market) for breakfast once a weekend. It's closer to the house. The other spot in the Mobile Station by the bridge sucks. They fill the burritos with potatoes.

We were refueling at the Ft Mojave Az Walmart Super Center gas station that has a cool little mini mart where we grabbed a loaf of this baked-on-site Brioche bread.
Really excellent bread blasting with flavor. Give it a try.

marketside-french-brioche-sliced-loaf-17-6oz

If you see the Brioche hamburger buns grab them too. Outstanding flavor as well. Freezes nicely.

I like Costco dogs once in awhile. Then I have one and remember why its only once in awhile!

Drove home from Eastern Washington State last night. This thread had me stop at the sushi bar off the I-5. It was pretty good.

I agree. Two bites into a COSTCO dog and I’m done.
When the MILFs asked for a Bildoe dog it required them spending a few minutes with Riverbound behind a locked door.

In camp I cook the skinny, skinless (aka bun length) Nathan’s served on steamed Kings Hawaiian hot dog buns with Pepsi, never Coke and the small size potato chips.
The plumper hot dogs suck.
RDs kids loved them.

The ultimate Road trippin food is got to be the McDonald's cheeseburger. no matter where you go, it's always the same, you know what you're going to get.
Yeah they taste like cardboard, but it's like a culinary treasure hunt, when you find that pickle in an actual burst of flavor.
But when that road warrior jams you up, and you have to gather your junk up off the shoulder and get it back on the road again, and you're done explaining the guys relationship with his mother to him, it doesn't matter where that cheeseburger wound up. It's in the same shape it was when it left your hand, and doesn't leave a crap mess on the upholstery or carpet to remind you of the incident.

Up here in the land of cheddar, there's a chain of gas stations called kwik trip. They've created their own brand of everything. Shit, they even sell steaks.

Breakfast sandwiches ain't too damn bad.
