the 3-- wheels I believe were chrome only MSR wheels, the lower mold, which makes the face of the wheel, were all machine finished and only need minor stone finishing. The mold face finish programs ran for 20/30/40 hours depending on the complexity.

Some older style, prolly late 90s, most of these hardly made production and were basically flopped designs.

Bought this semi cargo van from an auction. Stripped it, bagged, new 4.3l, 4 captains chairs, fosgate amps with all JL subs. I was rollin'. This thread brought me back to it. I found this picture on sportruck.com from the 98 Endless Summer in Parker. Damn, flashbacks galore!

Straight up copied the Concept Neeper wheel and made the 119.

Got hauled into court and later had to add the feature on the left side of the spoke so we wouldn't be in violation of their copyright. ;)

Yep some cool trucks back then. I remember this green dually as well. I knew Rob and Sean from back in the day. MIC, Trend Setters, he worked a couple places and had various shops around the OC, was at a hydraulic shop in Sante Fe Springs at one point I think. Was on West Coast Customs for a while as well.
I still have my truck, sits in storage in Parker. This was a couple weeks ago. Had 17’s back in the day, has 22’s on it now.

still runs and drives, I just don’t have room for it.

I never worked directly for MIC, I worked across the little parking lot at Jonny Lightning and John Beck's Pro Machine. Often times my 16 year old ass in 1996 would be lent to them for general automotive stuff when they needed a spare set of hands bleeding brakes, doing whatever. Rob was cool, by me lunch, and ice cream off the truck, even on days I didn't lend a hand. I remember the green truck vividly, it was done after I no longer worked in the complex but he used to cruise it up to the Coffee Shack on Rose and Imperial to show off, that's where all the mini truckers, import guys, and muscle car guys hung out.

Their influence rubbed off on me and my chevelle though, notice I shaved all trim, emblems, turn signals, and door handles off of my car? Really wish I would have left the handles :)

The 90s lent us decent remotes to trigger the actuators rather than the hidden button triggering an elec actuator from the 60's/70s.

The only bummer was if the battery went dead. :)

Years later, ALL of the factory cars implemented it. :)

Now we have keyless entry, who uses a key to open a door anymore?

its funny to read through this thread and see how many of us crossed paths and had no clue later in life we would all "know" each other. Makes me wonder how often we were down there at the same time and had no clue that 20 years later we would all be talking to each other on the internet. Quite a few of you posting in this thread I now know well and back then had no clue who you were but we were all doing the same thing in the same area.

when I built my truck, everyone used the hidden button or a key to trigger the electric solenoid for the doors. I was getting ready to do that, then I realized I could weld a rod to connect the pushrods from the door handle that popped the door, and the pushrod from the keyhole to unlock the door. So when I turned the key, it pushed the door handle pushrod and popped the door open. Worked pretty good.

Yep, I was super trick for back then and ran contact pins in the door jamb so no wires, used remotes from a car alarm to activate each door. Also, the solenoids I used, which suck and haven't worked in years, are from the trunk release of a 90's ford hatchback, thunderbird I think. I need to re-rig all that crap. I'd rather have handles if I am honest though. All things on the list.

Too funny....

yes I remember that Dually...So pimp and I'm not even a Dually guy.

I had a dumped 96 regular cab and I bought these Colorado custom wheels from the owner of Modern image in HB. I remember loving this truck in the mags and I ran into him at a show where he had new 20's installed (crazy shit back then...lol) and he made me a good deal...

I had shaved door handles on my second dually and never had a problem but I had the alarm hooked up to the windows as well so when the door wouldn’t pop I rolled the windows down.

I use to street skate with Rob before he opened MIC, he was semi pro street skater. If I remember right, MI started as a detailing company and rolled into full custom (MIC) truck builds. Rob always had SLAMMED trucks with HUGE stereos, some really nice stuff.

He was a pretty competent break dancer too.

Who were you working for when you did all of the permanent mold work? My family owned SEC wheels. We made all of Cragar's, Weld's and Centerline's 1 & 2 peace wheels besides our own line of wheels. Alot of the wheel designs you posted previously were ours. As soon as we came out with a new wheel design, our competitors would copy it and have it in production in 3 months or less.

No permanent molds, what would be called die cast molds.....

I worked in the tool room for American Eagle wheels. They did their own tooling and repairs in house.

I didn't design anything, no idea whose ideas were whos, I just machined the molds from prints and 3D CAD files. ;)

My grandfather was the first person to diecast an Aluminum wheel when he owned Ansen and came out with the Sprint mag wheel.

Awesome.

I really liked that job, I came of "age" and became a machinist in that toolroom, and made good money while doing it. :) I have very fond memories of that job and shop. We all had a lot of good times there and I actually bought the first two machines from them that started SB Products. ;)

I started around 24 as a shop lackey and left when I was around 34 and ran the CNC floor in charge of 6 peeps, with a short stint in another shop inbetween. :)

It was sold and then I think Just faded into oblivion. The new owners didn’t innovate and became stagnate.

My Dad still has this one. Bought it brand new and went straight from the dealer to the shop to get bagged and notched. It gets driven nowadays once every few months down the street and back.

It’s a total cream puff and as nice as the day it came home. You could eat off the motor. Truck gets compliments every time he’s out.

It even smells like 1994 lol

Unfortunately a tale as old as time. If you aren’t constantly evolving, you go the way of teal and hot pink color combos.

Did anyone ever get parts from Traders? I had a 1991 Extra cab dually lowered by them. It was such a great truck.
This is the only pic I can find on my phone. Headed back from Mead 1991.

Ha can’t believe I actually found some of the old school truck pics
Old Chevy luv was first truck I built, in high school, sold and guy in Santa Fe springs or something added graphics and some other goodies
Blue n white Toyota was my first wild build and used as daily driver
Suicide and shaved everything.
The candy pink magenta truck was also a daily driver me and buddy built. It was later painted by Kelly and sons. Candy yellow main color with wild graphics all over the sides and back. In 96 ish with sponsors paint alone exceeded 10k, lol still looking for those pics. But truck was copied by another guy after 1st show it was at who then ended up doing one side of truck nearly matching mine and other side
Different color and graphics. It ended up being a pretty iconic mini and still I see around today ( the copied one ) mine sold to an a die hard mini fan back in 2000 ish and never seen again

Holy crap! I still have magazine cut outs of both versions of this dually hanging on my garage wall.

This dually and the monster yellow suburban were probably the most iconic trucks of that era from what I remember. Like "freshly Squeezed" 61 impala that was in Friday was the most iconic lowrider.

I had all custom trucks (and a couple cars) through the 90s. I saw the MIC truck at a show I was in somewhere down south, can't remember where exactly now but it was south east of Long Beach.

Anyone know what happened to that crazy huge yellow suburban on 44's? Heard it went to New York and the owner backed out of agreements he had with all the sponsors to run it on the show circuit which pissed off the sponsors.

Which episode of gas monkey did they do this dually? I'll have to look it up on the magic box.

I had this dually the same time MIC was campaigning the green dually. Dually’s were the shit at that time. There was some SUPER nice builds. I recall a burgundy shaved crew out of Valencia as well that was insanely clean. Pics of my dually and the suburban I built after. I LOVED my dually but sold it to build the suburban. Had 12 12” JL’s in the burb. Shit was crazy loud. I’ve seriously considered getting rid of my 2door Tahoe and buying another slammed crew dually.

Yea, I can't find a photo online of it to save my life. It was on the cover of Truckin' and was going to be HUGE (no pun intended) on the show circuit. It was the first huge lift build that basically built a new sub frame to go crazy big. Pics of it were taken on the PCH by Pt. Mugu. It had the typical 50 stickers in the rear side windows of all the sponsors and the deal was that the guy that built it got smokin' deals from the sponsors with the agreement the truck would be shown on the circuit but someone offered the owner a shit ton of money and the truck disappeared. Ghosted that shit.

On a related note, I did find the cover with the burgundy slammed dually from Valencia
