My house in Lake Havasu,
I had the gas company bring in the gas line from the street to the house. I'm looking for someone that can run it to the gas pool heater, about 75'.
The pool contractor doesn't want to deal with it. Can any of you recommend someone?
Thank you

What size heater did you/are you going to install? Check the heater manual for the minimum pipe size. I’m sure you know already but our 400k btu made the gas meter spin like the wheel of fortune.. pulled it 2 weeks ago to go solar powered heat pump.

I had A&B do ours. They did the trenching, connections and sold us the tank.
Yes they have to do the propane. Natural gas is something a pool contractor would typically do. Something to do with the different pressures from what I understood. Our contractor was willing to do the Natural Gas but the city wanted $9k to run the main down the street across my property width and up to the house.

He can rent one....no?
Me thinks something else may be an issue? Hope I'm wrong.
I would think, but may have something to do with contract licensing or permitting. Don't know a whole lot about pool building...water proofing, but no one wants a hot mopped pool 🤣

Could you imagine the heat from a black hot mopped pool?:) We can discuss the stench later.
I got used to the smell. Fond memories of beer and burritos...and embracing a "no fuks given" work day. Kinda miss it!

I can get you taken care of on the propane and gas lines to the pool heater. We can do an underground tank or above ground. Pacific Coast Propane will be servicing you.
Give me a call, and I can come out and get you a bid for everything. I'm up in the foothills

Ya, that makes much more sense....
Minor detail there. Haha
I always thought havasu was beyond the stone ages......lol
lol we’re on NG and so many people are shocked. I really didn’t know how many people were on propane.

Avg pricing should be about 20 plf range for gas, as long as no concrete remove and replace
so around 1500.00. Plus connections at meter ( valve, union, tee etc.. prob another 500 ish ) total 2000.00 estimate

vanroy plumbing should be able to handle, since they also build pools

i can check if my guy interested in doing but he would likely want more dragging mini ex from ca

as far as pipe size for 400k btu nat gas , youll need 1.5in poly pipe, 2 1.5in poly transition risers, 2 poly couplings, tracer wire.
1.25 would work, but not many people carry 1.25 plus if you add bbq or firepit 3/4 stubs you would want 1.5in trunk line anyway. cost difference is maybe 100 less

No help on the gas line. But we had to upgrade or regulator at the meter when we installed our pool heater. Pentair 400 as well
The heater would run and shut off due to not enough pressure/ flow. Not sure of proper terminology
I believe SoCal Gas did for free as well. But that was 23 years ago. 🤷

Typically that’s the meter the gets upsized. Usually house and pool requires 425 Or bigger. Older houses or minimal appliances on gas, pre pool, will have a 250. If meter to small, heater will starve for gas making it cycle on and off.
Most gas companies will upgrade meter for free, why not to sell you more gas.
some cities that supply gas charge for meter upgrade but pretty rare.

The gas company had not installed the gas meter yet. He's waiting on the gas line and pool heater installation, then he'll instal the gas meter, he said.
Do I need to pull a permit for the gas line?

Do you “need to” ummmmmm
technically, yes
unless it was noted on pool plan, or at least equipment noted 400k heater. Then technically on plan and would already be permitted.

poly pipe for propane in Az is fire department permit, I would say absolutely if propane.
poly pipe for nat gas in Az i believe is city, since you have pool. If already noted then just need install and call for inspection. Or at least take pics, and leave under pressure until it’s connected both ends. So if he asks later you have some proof.

A&B Propane. They have the equipment and the parts to get this done. I work with them a lot when installing remote generators, and have worked with them extensively for many years for other gas related things. Solid people!

When the gas lines started leaking for the pool heater on the old house I was renting, they ran 2" galvanized blackpipe I believe. Ran it along the side block wall hung on brick, and didn't have to trench much unlike original install. Bushes hid it all after a few years. The original install ran the same pipe through the garage and out the side of the house so only a small section of concrete around the house was re-trenched to get to the block wall, for the retrofit. They did it all for ~$4k I believe in OC.

No experience in Havasu but everywhere else I’ve ran gas I needed a permit. They always want to check and make sure it holds pressure and is buried the correct depth.

So who is the go to in Havasu for mini-ex work? I need about 86 LF of trenching for a 4" drain line from my swimming pool trench drain to the front of my property? Sorry for the hijack. Unfortunately I am on propane. Wish I had NG.

Buddy rented a mini ex for $200 day and he had his own trailer for the pick up and delivery

We are going to rent it again for a flag pole base probably in September/ October - when it cools off

Those things aren't that hard to operate. I rented one from Depot in August to dig in Bullhead and it worked great. Only advice I have is to get the enclosed cab with air. I had to go sit in the cooler at Sams Club for a good 30 minutes to adjust my body temp after I was done.

I ran about 100’ of that poly in 2” for a fire pit and 400k pool heater. It was a pia. Like I was wrestling an alligator. If you’re not careful, it will knock you upside your head.

I'm not sure in Az but Ca you have to be licensed in poly pipe fusion to even purchase.
plus need poly heater and fittings for fusing it. It’s not a Home Depot visit and give it a whirl, lol
Also, normally it’s a 250ft roll. Very few places sell by the ft

I can ask the price on 2". I have the fusion tool. But live in CA. My plumber buddy in Havasu flaked on the last 2 I referred him. If you were local I could help you out. Just bought 200' of the 1" black poly. Be my first water main I run in poly. Gas lines we have been using poly for 10 years.

2in yellow poly 250 ft roll is 513 plus tax, 2in isn’t needed for 400k heater unless it’s a 200ft run
1.5 yellow poly 250 ft roll is 279 plus tax.

they do make compression style fittings, expensive and not many suppliers carry.

I had buy a few of the compression ones to replace a friend's inventory. Hit a gas line and luckily he had them on a truck. They were expensive but a lot cheaper than calling the gas co!

Hey Nicpaus,
You think 1.5 " yellow poly is enough for a 400k pool heater and 110k btu gas grill. Is about 85' from the gas meter
Thanks

I would be texting Mellow Tim that question. Not to fond of pools i always refer Him. But from his previous post yes. Depends on gas supply psi, distance and btus needed.
