Looks like a showroom in there, I dig it. Any plans to paint the inside of the trailer? I would paint it a lighter shade of grey than the boat to tie it in but let the boat still pop inside. My buddy's enclosed has a textured paint, almost like rhino lining that is pretty sweet (he bought it that way so he doesn't know what it is.... already asked) but could be a good option.

Looking forward to the updates, thanks for sharing.

Parts have been piling up. Hopefully drop the mock up motor in next week.

Been awhile since I updated. Progress has been slow, but steady. I’m thinking motor will come out end of month for cam & pan change, then back in for final assembly. Gotta find someone to tune the damn thing, but definitely making progress.

IC pipe clamped to the intake manifold? Thats dope
Yeah I’m running a “traditional” 4150 style manifold with injector bungs machined in it, so I used the 4 studs for the elbow to bolt some billet tube clamps too. They’re just a bit oversized with a thin vibration isolator in them to hopefully keep everything from cracking. I’ll trim the studs once everything is settled, and may only run 1, we’ll see.

This is awesome. @cyclone should do a reunion episode with a recap of your journey with the boat.

He has been a tremendous help! I ask him questions every few weeks, sometimes more often and he always helps! I cannot say enough good things about him! At some point the boat will get down South and run the river in AZ.

Looking good! it's gonna haul ass with that engine combo. That jet drive is setup for all the horsepower so it's not gonna let the engine turn much rpm until you crank the boost up. Once you put some Co2 on those wastegate domes then hold on! :)

Pulled it out of the garage for one of the last times tonight. Headed to my dads tomorrow to have him help me run the valves, try and set the cam sensor timing, and then it’s final clamping everything, put the plugs in and wires on, and then Thursday is the day the tuner is going to remote in and do an initial setup and systems check, and if my wiring is good and things look right, we’re going to fire it.

What a day! LOTS of issues that I didn’t think of, a few I didn’t know about, but after an ALL DAY grind I got to hear it. LOTS of work to do on the tune, but now that it runs things become a bit more accelerated.

Not bad for a guy that likes dudes!!

Stupid question time. Having never run anything that cool, or technologically advanced, is the chiller setup on a raw water feed, or does it run a dedicated pump and pickup? Do you just purge the nitrous through the flux capacitor and hold on for dear life?

The boat was wicked before, and you sure didn't let it down on the transplant! Has both the "wow" factor and the "oh shit" factor 👍

The technological shit is all over my head!

The water for intercooler is just like all jet botes, it come right from the pump and feeds the cooler. Out of the cooler (with a bit of added temperature) and into the motor. Through the motor, exits out front of intake, and out of the boat. Open loop deal very similar to 99% of other jet boats.

I am 100% honest when I say I’m not sure what to expect when I let go of the button the first time! Could be quick, could be slow, could put the rods in the pan. LOL

It will be damn exciting no matter what! First time I built a car with a trans brake was that same feeling...but it felt good!
I don't think going fast is any cheaper than being a drug addict, but it's slightly less frowned upon;)

Tuner spent an hour or so on it yesterday and it runs WAY better now. This was this morning from a cold start.

Tidied a few things up through the day, then took it to the water for a ramp test. All pump sensors seem to be working, definitely pushes water. If I can get a hand tomorrow morning I’ll take it off trailer and make a loop around the lake.

Today was the day. All seems to operate as it should. Got to push the throttle down a little. Tomorrow I’m taking it to my home waters where Im much for comfortable and will get some seat time. It does run triple digits though.

Congrats, John! I'm so excited for you. It's gonna rip! As long as your tuner hasn't changed the diverter timer settings and you havent' changed the nozzle angles then the boat should holeshot well and leave the line nice and flat. Just remember to put the boat in "neutral" and put the diverter into the "down" position before you open the bucket and mash the gas pedal. The nozzle moves up from the down position via a timer, which is triggered by the fwd/neutral switch. have fun!

Holy shit! I just thought the "tune" was for the motor. I read a few posts up about "pump sensors", but didn't put 2 and 2 together. This thing is more like a modern drag car. I had no idea the ecu also controlled launch control and nozzle angles.
YeeHaw! Finally, a good use for technology! Hold on!

I wired this particular boat with a lot of bells n whistles that are all controlled by the Holley Dominator ECU. It's controlling the ignition timing, fueling, data logging all the sensors on the engine and the jet drive, as well as controlling the launch rpm and angle of the jet drive nozzle.

When I started this adventure I had a what I thought was a lofty, but attainable goal of 117 WITHOUT having to run the thing a mile to get there. That said, posting the number on this site will just draw speculation and doubt about the GPS, or this or that. Im not interested in the argument. I will say that the GPS app I run on my phone seems to be spot on with other GPS devices I have compared it to so I have no reason to believe it is inaccurate, and frankly it feels every bit as fast as what it records. That all to say, the pass I posted from yesterday tells me that my goal of 117 is easily attainable.

It should also be noted that this is not a max effort deal. The boost is a moderate 11psi, the timing is only at 34 degrees. I cruise the boat from the launch spot to our little beach a few miles away.

Well, this afternoon was another test session. Best one yet, I’m happy with it. I’m going to do a leak down, change/sample the oil, compression check, etc. just to be sure it’s not eating itself up. It doesn’t give indication that it is, but better safe than sorry.

That all to say, today my goal was realized and surpassed. Provided all looks good with motor, I’ll probably put a couple more pounds of boost to it. Maybe, it’s pretty quick for recreational boat. I’m sure there will be someone call shenanigans, but we had 2 phones in it, they both recorded the same speeds in 2 different boats.

Been awhile, some good to report, some bad.

Shortly after last update I had a valvetrain failure that exploded the motor. Tune looked perfect, all other parts in the motor looked perfect, just a straight up part failure caused the issue. This ended the season for me as I couldn’t get a new motor in time to save the season, so I side casted the whole mess while deciding what to do. After talking with several motor builders around the country I settled on Shafiroff Racing out of NY to build a 588” that was setup for boost and big HP. Even setup at a lazy 8.5:1 the motor still made north of 800hp! I am happy, and mildly excited to report that the new motor is on a truck and headed to Oregon so that this thing can get resurrected and back on the water sooner than later!

Ive never heard of those wastegates before so please put some quality gates on it. Tial, turbosmart, or precisonturbo. Just my opinion.. Hopefully you bring it down to havasu this season.

They are VS gates (so are the Turbos). Not high end, but if I'm being honest, the worked flawlessly! The whole setup worked flawlessly, right until it didn't! If I was to change the gates I would go to electric gates and run them through the Dominator.

The boat is headed to Havasu mid-March and I am going to play with it down there until early June, or until it sells, whichever comes first.
