Fun Birthday Surprise Today.

The wife and I don't usually do much for each other for holidays, birthdays or even anniversaries. Well today is my 60th and my kids arranged for the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile to come to my house and give us all rides. This is one of those things that I have always wanted since I was a kid, I even have some collectables of the Wienermobile. I was so surprised to walk out and see this thing in my driveway. We ended up going into our small community and parked in front of our Hardware Store where it of course drew a crowd.

Here's what I know, they get 7000 requests a year and can only do around 1000 with the 6 trucks. My daughter called last year and submitted a letter but got no reply. She received a call Wednesday afternoon and was told they had a cancelation in LA and was she still interested in having the truck come by Thursday for my bday, of course she said yes. The problem was the wife and I were in Havasu working on our remodel. Without telling me what was going on we drove back home Thursday morning, then came back out to Havasu this morning.
I imagine there is a website where you could make the request, I'm not sure the whole details. I really think I just got lucky on the timing.

We were on our way to North Carolina to catch up with some boating friends. We stopped and spent the night in Ohio. The W. Mobile pulled in behind us. They were going to a local festival.

When the wife and I got married just about 30 years ago in Redlands. One day the wiener mobile crushed through the parking lot. Perfect timing. We all went out to check it out. Not sure if this is one of the whistles given out that day. But I opened the drawer in our guest room yesterday and found this..….

My buddy up in Tahoe ( a crazy model builder, lotta fucking modeling glue in those long winter months when he can't get out of the house) is obsessed with the Wienermobile and is always sending me random pics, mostly when it's involved in a wreck. He even has a book on them, I think the first one was built in the '30s.

Thing must be a bitch to drive.
