Our current washer is on its way out.

My wife was thinking of one of those large front loaders and dryers.

What's the pros and cons?

What brands have been the best?

Thanks in advance.

I dont remember what brand we have but they work pretty well. Its not one of the higher end ones and it is a bit louder than other front loaders because of this. My suggestion to you though, after you are done using it, keep the door cracked open a little bit on the washer. It'll make sure all the water at least dries up.

Perfect idea. Then, maybe, the cat will jump in without us knowing. :champagne:

You know what they say....a clean cat is a, well, a pissed off one.:D

Not sure about all models but a good friend of mines wife always has to have the lateest and greatest everything. First set of front loaders ended up on the curb in less than six months. I asked him WTF, he said don't ask. Asked him later how the new latest and greatest was working, he said don't ask.

She was on the curb shortly there after.:D

LG is really good and priced will for what they are. Do not under any circumstances buy the Maytag Neptune, been there, done that. Kicked them to the curb.

We have a kenmore set from Sears and the things work bitchin' They use less water and soap to boot so you save some $$. FL is right about keeping the door open, otherwise mold will grow and it'll stink up your clothes/house/lungs

Here's a link to the washer and dryer we got, get the pedestal things too, I didn't and had to get them separate from the W/D, and it cost me more, oh well.

We have Maytag and they are great. Mine wife does ALOT of laundry, 2-3 loads minimum a day. Make sure you set them up so the doors open away from each other. Also, be sure to check behind the door seal on the washer, socks can and will get stuck in it. The mildew smell will tip you off if one's in there.

Yep we also have LG Trom's.

They work well, are quiet, and hardly use any water. Which leads me to ask are the clothes really getting clean? Dunno.

Three years and trouble free. They run nearly every day. Flippen kids. :)

Wow. Good prices on the Kenmore link. Thanks.

My wife found one yesterday, she said it was 1700.00 for a washer alone. She didn't remember what brand it was though.

We have a Maytag Neptune (the older school one with relays and knobs not computerized screens) It is over 10 years old and running like a champ, also we have the matching dryer (electric) and the dryer actually finishes a load faster than the washer, which the washer runs a cycle way fast because it doesn't take very long to fill with water, also it uses less soap.

I would probably recommend getting one that you put soap in each load, not one with a soap resevoir, this way you can choose for yourself how much soap to run, our neptune does a full load with only about 1/4" of soap in the soap cap.

Our Maytag Neptune is going on about about 6 years, it's never missed a beat.

I believe the Kenmore and LG's are the same MFG.
10 year direct drive ball bearing motor warranty on the one we bought.

They have style and function too.

We have the LG troms and they work great. Less water and easier on you clothes.

We did have a door seal problem that eventually went away on its own, but my wife wipes the door seal and the area the seal seals against after every load.

We moved to a home on a well a while back, and the mildew issue was amplified since our water has no chlorine. So in addition to leaving the door open when not in use, my wife runs the washer empty with a little bleach a few times per month.

Check out Howards weekly ad,usually they have Frigidaire Front load washer and gas drier for $899 for both after utility rebates. We bought ours over a year ago and they work great also great customer service. When we bought it was $999 for both, I thought it was a trick but no it was legit.Hard deal to beat.

3 years ago we got a Kenmore HE upright canyon capacity. Once in a while it sends out an error code and puts the washer in lockdown mode, like Hal from 2001. I researched it outd and it's a common problem...but seems to have went away....

at which time, it sounds like a bearing went out. The thing still works, but sounds like a 747 turbine on its spin cycle. Then on an uneven load, whamo, the tub bounces around inside the washer side walls, denting them outward....

which is probably why I have a small waterleak, like a seal is going out.

I expect a catastrophic FAIL pretty soon.....but been saying that for the past year. I'm sure when it goes out though, I'll need a replacement, not a fix.

The fuggin thing spins so fast, clothes come out practically dry.

Just a heads up. I miss the old turn and push in the dial models, dangit.

Our troms occasionally send out an error code...it seams to struggle getting the drum moving. I give the drum a manual spin and then it works. Has happened about 3 times in d years.

we just got an LG set (w/d) from Sears. You basically have to re-learn hwo to operate a washer, but so far we like it. It wasn't the top of the line model, but it did have the stainless tub (dryer too). Also, it was the only one with a 10 year warranty on the motor. I checked Consumer Reports and it seemed the LG and the Samsung models scored high.

Good Luck.

I bought a Kenmore set at the Sears scratch and dent store in Corona about 4 years ago at almost half price. They work great.

I had forgot about this. The washer does mold up the seal if it does not dry out.
