I've known this kid since he was about 5. He's now graduated from college. On his way home last night after going to a bar in Redlands with friends. He was the DD. Some car pulled up to him and shot at him, blowing out two windows and grazing his arm. Could've been much worse. That town. Nothing good happens after midnight there.

I've got ten "Time" jokes brewing... Out of respect... I'll shelve them.

Scary stuff. Glad it was not worse.

I was a cop there for 28 years. It is the wild west.
I'm sure you watched it deteriorate right in front of you. 28 yrs ago wasn't a fraction as bad as it is today. I was just at Sierra way and 9th working a double fatal this morning and was talking with the cops on scene and was blown away at some of their stories about work and pay. crazy!!

Does that say "Wild Time" on the Pocket Watch on his arm right next to the bullet wound (Which happens to ironically be around the time he was shot??)

Not sure. He's a good kid though. Never been in trouble. I'm good friends with his family.

I don't feel bad for them as they willingly signed up for the job. :)

I wasn't saying he was a bad kid.. I was just saying what are the odds that he has a tattoo on the same arm that depicts an actual time of wild times, and then gets shot right next to it. Kind of ironic. Lol. I'd buy a lotto ticket!

Oh here we go....

Lol.. I actually agree with him 100% I... We signed up for it. Never have I expected or asked for anyone to feel sorry for me because of my career choice. Now, what I have asked is before they pop off about what it is that I/We do they actaully take a litlel time to educate themselves to reality instead of the 5 O'clock news stories.

As to the kid, glad he's ok.

Definitely better than the thread title led me to believe.

JUST SAD - My wife and I grew up in San Bernardino and it was a great town to grow up in. Cruising "E" Street on the weekends, cops were cool, and everyone knew each other. I watched it just turn into a 3rd world country and in 1989 we made our escape. Went out to dinner a few months ago in Highland and decided to cruise E street on the way out of town. JUST SCARRY.

I do feel sorry for him getting shot. Not being a tattoo person, what is the ".... jawed angel" tattoo, and is that a pot leaf on the back of his arm?

No, you're good.. Maybe he should go buy a lotto ticket. My point is, no one is safe. It is ironic.

I've never seen his tattoos up close. As far as the pot leaf, he went to college in San Francisco. Probably required there.

Wife's family moved away from there in the early 2000s. Said it was getting too fucked up.

Now they reside full time in Ocotillo. Talk about extremes. They love it.

That right there is the difference in us. I ask for people to feel sorry for me, pulling on them tits all day was a crappy way of life. [emoji202]

I feel sorry for you. You have to pick up change all day and it's dirty [emoji12][emoji202]. Then them little snot nose brats ( kindergarten ) kick you in the shins as they head to the cross walk. [emoji12][emoji106]

Correct. Standard issue now.

I think it happens in grade school now.

;):D

Funny story yesterday. SF ran the last gun store out of town. Now there are none in the city limits. What opened in its place? Marijuana dispensary. :rolleyes

LA scum moved east 20 years ago, now you have this.
I'm working in indio, this is worse place I've ever worked. Compton was better. There's major gang and drug problems. 2 miles away are million dollar la Quinta homes.

Kid is lucky, now time to move.

R u Hispanic at all. ??I know the wife is. [emoji202][emoji41]

I honestly do not know. My father's parents came from Germany and settled in good old Pennsylvania. My mom was put up for for adoption at birth... somewhere in Ohio. Know nothing of her side of the family.

Maybe I can take one of those DNA tests and see what the hell I am! Just scared that my results would fall into the wrong hands. I would get kidnapped and my body parts would be sold on the black market :eek

So what did the hospital do? Stitches or just a large bandage?

I don't really know. I'll check with his mom. She sent me a pic last night of his shirt with the hole in it and wanted to know what all the white residue was. I told it appeared to be powdered glass from the window shattering. I was surprised they didn't keep his shirt for evidence.

Glad he's ok. That city isn't safe any time of day.

And to think, I just willingly put my transfer request to go work there.

My wife and parents are not real thrilled, but I'm hoping it will pay dividends later with knowledge, skill, ability, and promotion. I know what to expect, I have family that retired from PD and I work in a neighboring city already. It'll be a shit show for sure.

I hear ya. I was adopted at 6 weeks old. So I don't know shit, either. I have been asked , don't you care.
Well not really , not going to matter at the end of the day and sure the hell won't fix my problems. [emoji41][emoji202]

Glad to hear he's OK!

Born and raised in Berdoo, I went to Wong's (now Wang's:thumbsdown:grumble::thumbsdown) at Highland & E last month and never felt more uncomfortable, what a $hithole....
My 80 year old mom still occasionally volunteers at the main library downtown.:eek I guess that's better than going 2-3 times a week. We moved in the late 90's... Really sad, it used to be such a nice place to live, work, and shop.

Both of my parents have since passed and I do not talk with my family, so I guess I won't ever know. Don't really care either. Oh well...

They just bandaged it up. Doc says that type of wound self cauterizes. He said he could get plastic surgery later. Otherwise, it's a John Wayne, stuff-a-handkerchief-in-it affair.

That makes me laugh. My name and the word happy has never been put together in 49 years. Lol. Most think I am unhappy and angry.
