I would imaging there are quite a few 8.1's sitting in junkyards that no one wants since its not an LS?

Also, could I do an adapter plate on a 4l80 or an nv4500 to just bolt it up to the original 454?

The 4l80 trans bolts up to the 8.1 and the older 454 the same. A 4l80 will also bolt up to a LS motor, so long as you have the correct flex plate with the crank spacer on it. The only wierd LS motors were the 1999-2000 2500 / 3500 6.0's - those had an extended flange on the back of the crank to mimic the SBC / BBC crank depth, on those they can bolt right up without the flexplate spacer.

Is it a simple plug adapter for the 4l80e? Chasing electrical gremlins is my biggest fear

Are you talking to run a 4l80 behind a non-computer (original 454.....etc) motor ? They have a stand alone trans controller that is pretty easy to use.

But, if your doing a swap to a later model motor like a LS or an 8.1, you can get a harness that runs the motor and trans from the factory ECM, and it will control both. There are also stand alone aftermarket EFI units that have built in trans control.

I'm talking about swapping a 4L80 behind an original BBC. Want to know what all of my options would be. As you can tell from all of my above posts, I am not even close to figuring out what I am going to do.

That's an easy swap on a 2wd truck. You will need to shorten the driveshaft and move the crossmember back, or have it modified. Hell, they may sell a crossmember for that swap now days, have never looked. You'd run the 4l80 with a stand alone trans controller, to handle the electronics. The controllers are plug and play, you only have to connect switched ignition power, battery power (constant), and ground. There is probably a TPS sensor you would have to mount on the carb so it can tell throttle position. If you wanted to EFI the motor that was already in the truck, you could slap a FI Tech or one of the other aftermarket companies self tuning EFI setups on it, in place of the carb.

If you get a 91 it will have overdrive (last year of the square bodies) have the air updated by someone that knows what he is doing and its good and cold, also tint the windows, it makes a big difference,

Check out Palm Springs craigslist. 2004 dually. White lowered. Super low miles. If I needed a dually I’d be on my way to buy it.

Nice find, I'm not sure how its possible for a 15 year old truck to only have 35k on the clock!

My 96 Ext cab only has 86k. Wife’s 2000 excursion has 73k. Unicorns. But they do exist. I may swoop that dually up just because it’s clean

Is that Excursion a 7.3? If so, probably worth like 30k!

I wish. I looked for about 2 years for a low mileage 7.3l. This one was a one owner v10 w/ 64k when I bought it. Not a single dent or scratch.

Thank you kindly ... it is a 1 of 3

'93 G30 454 4X4 EXT, 4l80E, np205, 4-56 spicers in a Dana ft & r., Bilstien 5100's, BFG 315/75/16, 146" wheelbase. This was all factory or govt, well almost I have increased the tire size to mellow The Beast, still way more motor than tire, Chevy only made 3 of these . Its a 2 seater ripped out the 4 benchseats & diamond the floor, oaked the walls, fishing rod racks, limo roof, 12 speaker 1000 watt sony surround, my quads garage , telescope that you can count the rings of Saturn and oh yea a Hammoc to sleep in and watch the stars. Otherwise its the garage for my Quad a 350 Yami.

The Beast has done 270 miles of the Baja 1000 in 03 as a chase truck (got 8 MPG ), from here to Tuson & back in 10 hrs, 6 ft in the air behind Lake Morena, last May I took a 7 week road trip to the Flordia Keys and back 6700 miles ( got 14 MPG). I have 2 of these one for the dirt - one for the street, the other '92 G30 454 EXT. Both are Factory.

The '92 is just starting the transition...just picked it up in march.

Sweet truck👍
I actually pondered the idea when you posted it for sale. It was gone before I was done pondering😂

To me, (and no offense to AZKev and the lowered truck guys) this represents one of the best examples of both form and function.
Looks bad ass👍
4x4=more function.😎
Kinda regret pondering so long😅
