I have been tasked with looking into one of these for my dad.

What should I know about them? I think he is leaning towards the hybrid model for fuel economy.

He will be using it as his daily and usually commutes a good distance 30-50 Miles one way. He doesn't haul tools around anymore, but wants the bed for little weekend home depot runs etc. Are these reliable? what motor should I be looking for and what years better than others. might consider buying new if anyone has a good contact at a ford dealer.

The drivetrain is borrowed from the Escape and Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport and Escape have been very reliable for us. Some of the old 1.5 and 1.6's had leaking anti freeze in the cylinder on some. The 2.0 has been a good engine. The Hybrid is using a CVT transmission. Not a fan of that. I have sold around 10 of them so far. They have been tough to get. All the owners have been very happy.

In had a ((2024) Hybrid for 6 months or so. No complaints. Lariat model. Indicated about 36-38 mpg, combination city hwy. Hwy only 75+mph 26-28 mpg. Back seat only for small people. Front seat roomy no problems. If a lot of Hwy driving a ice may be better, more options. 4K towing and such

Looking for more info go to Maverick Truck Club

As far as I am concerned, its the ugliest El Camino / Ranchero, I have ever seen.
If you gonna build a car with a bed, then please dont call it a truck… thats just stupid. But thats my opinion.

Below proves my point… he just needs to tuck his ears into hit ball cap…

I’ve got a buddy who launches a 18 Boston whaler guardian (commercial hull) routinely with one. He loves the hybrid.

It’s no F150 but if you’re not hauling much I can see the benefit.

Thev1.6 was the early engine. They switched to the 1.5 15 or 16? If you open the hood and the overflow tank is empty is a quick sign. 13 to 16 seem to have had the problem. Some went 250,000 miles without a problem.

Are the hybrids w/ the CVT trans not as reliable?

will most likely be buying new... but would also want it to not be a maintenance nightmare for him once it's outside of warranty

The CVT in the Hybrids are a eCVT nothing like the crap Ford put out many years ago. These are all gear driven.

If you go to the "Maverick Truck Club" there are some pretty savvy people. One guy gave a detailed explanation on the eCVT.

I gotta guy. When you're serious let me know. Veryyyyyyy little mark up on these so don't expect huge saving.
My son has a bronco sport, damn near the same
I love driving it. Zero issues. Plenty of power for it's size. No rattles, stock audio is good. No real downside

Not nice of me to pick on the transmission. I just have a good memory for bad things. The 2005 ish version caused me a lot of headaches.

I ordered a Hybrid roughly 23 months ago, got it mid May. So far its a great little truck, beats trying to park the F350 CC Dually anywhere when busy and can pick up most product needed from HDepo when ever needed. Drives great, comfortable and solid so far. So far drove it from Mohave Valley to Vegas and back 80mph averaged 36mpg, around town so far 40/42 avg depending on my foot. I have to say it has one of the best air conditioning systems I have ever had in over 100 vehicles. Very impressed that is for sure. Wife asked "SO how long are you going to keep this one" I can actually see keeping this truck for a while. Well until I get bored. :) Had to make a correction, On the highway, I wrote 80mpg it was 80mph at 36mpg avg. just wanted to clear that up.

I could get corrected but my understanding is the AC system also assists in cooling the traction battery. My 24 hybrid the AC also kicked ass.

They are trucks. No question about it. I'm curious to know when you see one with drywall in the pickup bed, how many tapers are in the cab?

My Brother in law has one and I've driven it a few times. Seemed like a pretty cool Mini truck but his was the all wheel drive Turbo model.

He works for Ford in Ohio and pulled a pretty good deal on it. Drove it out here and back and pulled close to 30 mpg.

Down side...still a Ford. A company that uses its customers to find all the problems.

No experience with them, but I think they are cool little trucks. They look way better than the rangers, that’s for sure.

I’ve seen some that were lowered and turned into more of a “street truck” those looked good too.

I can assure you after many years in new vehicle development the lower level engineers know exactly how to develop a good realible vehicle. Problems start about 2 levels up. Ford rewards cost cutting with bonus's, promotions. If one values their job keep your mouth shut and do your job with what is given to you.
We use to travel with the heavy duty truck section during the the 6.0L diesel development to a man they knew it was a pos as it was some VP's brain fart for Ford to build in house saving money. Everyone knows how that worked out.

Cheap, Fast, Good pick 2.

saw a picture of one on coil overs on 21" ford edge take off wheels that looked pretty dang good.

If they made an ST version with about 350hp I think they would be pretty cool for a daily.
