I’ve got a 2011 ecoboost with 190,xxx miles on it and I think my timing chain is starting to make itself known. I only hear a rattle when I first start the engine cold and and it immediately goes away. There is no rattle starting a warm engine. Wanted to list a video hear and see what you guys hear. Anyone here have a reputable shop in the Central Valley area Near Fresno ca?

Cam phaser rattle. It’s super common. Mine did it on my ‘13 but went away after about 20/30 seconds.

What about coolant leak, My wifes Expedition was leaking coolant once in awhile. I did the Pegasus upgrade at the Coolant Reservoir but still leaks once in a while somewhere else down below.

Stupid question, but is it okay to run it? Mine is also make some noise at initial start up usually only when its cold. I received a quote of about $4k to fix...

Yes , it’s the timing chain/cam phaser. Might try Dave over at Advanced Auto, he’s on Dunsworth off of East Main.

I had 175k on mine when I traded it in and it made that noise as long as I could remember. That being said it had a new motor at 60k. [emoji2369]

I also had coolant leaks at the turbos. And a whistle like one of the turbos was leaking when I finally traded it in. That truck had a hard life. Towing a couple days every week in extreme Havasu heat.

So let me see if I follow this correctly, if you don't follow the clearly laid out directions.... you have problems?

Go figure...….
But that's Ford's fault that you didn't follow the directions and had issues.

OK

I have 22K on my '18. This thing kicks ass.

I was skeptical for the longest time on these
Motors. From what I read overall they have held up great and are such a beast towing. Some hiccups here and there but such a success for Ford.

I’m very impressed with mine. Recently towed a 21’ boat from Parker to Central Cal, shhhh don’t tell BM94, and didn’t even know it was there.

Yea, by and large they seem to be doing well.

The coolant tubes are a pain in the ass. They rot out from the inside and then leak but typically it is over 100K miles when that happens. It is a $1500 job at the dealer and $50 in parts LOL. I do not know if the issue is resolved on the Gen2 3.5s. but I'm going to change my coolant more often than recommended in my truck.

I can tell you this. I have 2269 miles on my new one. It’s day night better than the old one. Everything from the power band. The 10 speed trans. The exhaust note. They’ve really refined these trucks and that motor package.

Not sure how people get 17/18/19mpg?? I never got more than 14 on the old one and I can’t get 16 on this one. [emoji2369] View attachment 861284

I have a 2014 3.5 with 137K. Its been a great truck so far.

In regards to fuel economy, I have noticed that they are very sensitive to that pedal on the right, headwind and going up hills. I usually get between 17.5 and 18.5mpg back and forth to Havasu. I am usually at 82-84mph. If its real windy it will drop a few mpg. If there are a bunch of big trucks and I am slowing and accelerating the mileage also drops.

The 10 speed really makes the truck.

Do you do a lot of highway driving? I can get 18-19 (real MPG) at 80 on the way to the river. I have the 3.55 gears as well

I always wonder the same thing....my 2012 gets 12-14 around town ( I dont have to get on the freeway to get to work) Although I have seen 19-20 MPG doing between 80-90 on my way to the river.

I have a 2018. I like the truck overall, 10speed is great. I did have the cam problem. Forget at what mileage, but it was under warranty.
