Dusted off the griddle, it’s ready for the season.

What do you like to cook to kick-off the season, and why is it tablitas? 😊

I have been doing smash burgers smashed with tortillas.
Me too. They are amazing and everyone likes them way more than a normal burger.

We do filets, terryaki chicken, StirFry, breakfast, fried rice, carne/pollo, Philly steak, shrimp scampi, smash burgers, quesadillas, etc.

On a side note…I went through 3 blackstone griddles. Recently bought the Traeger flat top and it’s a night and day difference in quality vs a blackstone.

My seasoning is flaking off AGAIN. Not too sure why this time. Maybe I'm not using enough fats/oils when cooking?

We are getting a black stone this week. Apparently there's one with a built in pizza oven. I've never had a flat top grill, should be fun
Check into these… was not impressed with black stone quality… I use the shit out of mine… rarely touch my gas grill or smoker anymore…

This is a smokin deal… I paid $100 more and thought I stole it at the Xmas sale. Online only deal…

What are you doing for a seasoning procedure and how often?
start with a CLEAN griddle. I use flaxseed oil.....usually 2-3 THIN coats. Black stone has a good video showing how to do it (youtube) I stripand reseason about every 18 months

I coated mine with avocado oil and did a complete heat-up & cool down, and repeated this 3X. Next I cooked some onions and bacon on it. That was 3 years ago, and I've never had to re-season since. Just make sure after you clean your flat-top to always recoat it with oil.

Possibly too thick? Blackstone has a seasoning paste. Try that. But clean it of all previous oils first then follow their process.

I have used the Blackstone seasoning eachtime. The first time I followed their seasoning procedure to a T. Then after about 6 months this happened and I stripped it completely down. Wire wheel, flap disk, etc. Then re-seasoned the exact same way (I assumed I was using too much water to clean it). I oil it after every use and only use water when needed. Its almost like the seasoning is drying out and separating from the griddle surface.

I LOVE this thing, but man this seasoning issue is annoying.

It’s a game changer for bacon. I like to cook up a pound of bacon then cook a steak as soon as the bacon comes off.

I seasoned mine when I got it. It's been maybe two years now?

When I'm done cooking, I just close the lid.

When Im ready to use it again...

Heat it up on high. Scrape it clean with a metal scraper, and spray some high temp Pam on it.

No issues.

Maybe i need to start using more oil when I cook. I tend to not use any for liquidy stuff (scrambled eggs), meat with high fat content (ground beef), or something with a marinade on it.

Looks like this is version 1.0. (They must have bought them for a deal as they aren't available online through loco any longer) Went down the rabbit hole after you posted it and was ready to replace my blackstone.

Most reviews are pretty good but after some searching there have been a ton of issues with the 1.0 and it seemed customer service for issues wasn't great.

Wonder if they have improved. Version 2.0 has some improvements it seems but I like the $30..0 price point alot better...lol

Not too sure if this is the 1.0 or not, but looks like a great deal at Lowe's on them right now.

Idk which version I got but seems all the sales are about the same on them right now. I’ll can tell you since Xmas may be has been trouble free and I’ve used it a lot…

I’ve also got a couple other LoCo cookers that I’ve been super impressed with…especially my boil setup.

Like everything there will be some kinks…. Like my Weber smokefire I’ve mentioned on here… I’d love to shove that smoker up the CEO’s ass while it’s having an”thermal event” lol

I’m in the same boat, but I line in the fkn PNW where the moisture is worse than anywhere. I’ve done the procedure 3 fkn times and it looks like I should go get a tetanus shot every time I pull the cover off! 🤬

Do you oil it after use while it's still hot?

Before I stripped and reseasoned the griddle last time, I forgot to oil it a few times and it got a little rusty a few times. It cleaned right off but if I oiled it after use while the griddle was still hot (burners were off but still hot). Never rusted when I oiled it.

Damn I couldn't tell ya the amount of food has passed across the top of mine. Been cooking on them for about 8 years now....

My favorite (and others) by far is the grilled peaches over vanilla icecream...OMG good and an easy favorite to an ending!
Slice ripe peaches according. Place in bowl and pour about a cup of Kaptian Morgan along with a few spoons of brown sugar.
Best to let it fermit for a couple of hous prior to grilling. Judge your timing and fire the grille backup dumping the fermented peaches on it adding some butter. Grill medium/high until caramelized (about 5 min).
Remove from the grill and pour over the icecream of yore choice.
Takes all of 8 minutes to cook for a great ending to your main meal or just a sweet snack.

I always use a Light coat of grilling PAM, and then...

Breakfast? Butter only

Burgers? Nothing else. Full tilt heat.

Steaks? Oil to start, butter to finish.

Carne? Litgh oil and the marinade it came in.

Kinna just depends what you're cooking!

Wagyu tallow for burgers or steak is legit! Use it a lot in my cast iron skillets.

So I fucked up BIG time!!!

Yesterday I cooked some smashed burgers, with chorizo, for lunch and noticed the seasoning was flaking off right in the center where I cook the most.

YOU got me thinking...

Should I just season over it? Or strip the whole thing clean? 🤔

Well hell, how hard could it be??

Started with the Blackstone recommended method, with their pumice stone and oil. Nope! Didn't do a thing.

Ok so, wire brush on my cordless drill? It worked where it was peeling, but that seasoning was like Plated on there. Fuck! Now I've started something that is Clearly gonna take hours to finish. Fuck me.

I drag my baby compressor and hose out back, and attack it with the body grinder. Works great! But the baby compressor only lasts maybe 5 min?

Fuck me, again. 🤬

So now I grab my little brake rotor grinder (super high speed) and some fresh sanding discs, and hit it again. Great! But I only have like 2oo grit pads? You can't run 80 grit on a brake rotor, and I only have 2 of em!

I've probably been at it well over an hour now, and I've barely got the seasoning stripped off...

So I go back to my wire brush and drill to put a smooth clean finish on the dam thing.

2 hours later, well after dark, and I'm starving...

I'm Finally ready to reseason the fucking thing. Jezuz.

Did one coat last night. Did another one this morning, and I'll probably do one more tonight.

🤬🤬🤬🤬

I'll throw this fucker away and buy a new one, before I go through all this trouble again!!!

🤣🤣🤣

When I have to do mine again I am 100% using it as an excuse to upgrade. Or buy a bigger compressor lol.

Cause it doesn't spin fast enough! It had been years since I first seasond mine, so that coating was NOT coming off easily.

I think you can order the griddle separately. I'll do that, before I do this again.
