The 40 is a bad place to get a flat, especially at night.

Friend of my wife and her son were traveling to Havasu recently. Had a flat tire out in middle of nowhere. Pitch black out, traffic wizzing by at 70+ just feet away. Nothing but cell phone flash lights and neither of them had ever changed a tire before. They were having trouble dropping the spare.

Then out of no where a CHP cruiser pulled up behind them. The officer was nice enough to assist them by helping to drop the spare. Also stayed with them till the tire was changed and they were safely back on the road.

Amazing service these guys and gals provide to keep our families safe. Please give them a break! Don’t forget to thank them when you have an opportunity.

Good ol' AAA with a gun. :D I remember as a kid mom was taking us to visit family in Topock and we broke down, long before cell phones. He summoned help for us and family came to get us.

I tell my wife to just drive on the flat till she can find a good safe spot. If that is 50 miles, then I just have to buy a new rim and tire. Especially if it's just stock rims, they are easy to find. If you drive slow you could probably drive 100's of miles no problem.

A little prep goes a long way….. Check your spare pressure.

I pulled the doughnut spare tire out of the 2020 Accord the other day. It is supposed to be “60 psi, it had 16 psi.

CHP and DPS (when outside the city limits) do awesome jobs, IMHO.

Man that's not good at all and fortunate a patrol car was in the area.
I tell my family if they ever get a flat on the freeway no matter where get to the right shoulder with flashers on when they can and drive to the next exit or turnout. I don't care about ruining a wheel just for their safety. Even if they cant get off the road get away from the car as fast as possible. Seems a disabled vehicle is like a magnet to other drivers especially at night in the middle of nowhere.
Glad they got the help they needed at the time and were able to continue on safely to their destination.

Right there with those that tell the wife to drive somewhere safe. Don’t give two shits about rim tire.

Good reminder to be prepared for all of us. Spare tire with air in it and proper tools. Make sure lug wrench fits those custome wheels.

Make sure the tire shop didn't gun the f out of the lugs.
When I return from the tire shop I loosen and retorque . Just today, had a tire repaired. Couldn't break it loose without a fight with a 2ft breaker.

I am team “do not park on the freeway, drive to the next stop and don’t worry about the wheel damage”…. Bonus is that everything we drive has 5 matching wheels and tires on 35s.

Every guy should give a lesson on changing a tire , especially lowering it down , to your wife , daughter and son . You’d be surprised how many lowering mechanisms are frozen / broken . Easier to figure it out in the driveway than the road . Like learning to change a UTV belt at home , not the trail . And check lug nuts so they aren’t too tight or stripped .

X2 with the wife knows to “keep driving until you get off the highway”. to insure that the vehicle she usually drives has run flat tires…..

All you keep driving folks realize thats how that big ass fire that ripped through Redding started right? Retired couple had a blowout on their travel trailer and kept driving looking for a safer spot to pull over. Damn near burned a whole city down.

Scary and dangerous situation for sure... I know 2 guys who were killed changing a tire on the side of the road in a desolated area. One of these guys, a young firefighter, stopped to help a woman who had a flat. Sad, sad....
