Sometimes the easy road is closed and you have to take the long road.

A good friend lost a wheel bearing on his boat trailer Monday, it ruined the spindle. He was planning on coming back to boat today.

The trailer supply place had weld on spindles, but they were odd ball and would not match the other spindles.... I didn't want to fix his trailer where 1 of the 6 wheels has a different spindle....

So i just made a spindle.

Does a spindle get heat treated?

Very cool!

While all of that could be done on an engine lathe, the CNC sure makes it easier, better, and a whole lot prettier.

Nicely done sir.

Used chromoly material that is stronger and harder than the regular spindles.

No you do not heat treat them post facto. Not sure what the exact material stock ones are but it's not very hard at all per a file and punch test
What filler did you use to weld it to the plate? What material plate?

Awesome, we all need friends like you. 👍
Am I missing something? I was hoping he'd come back with the cronatron filler number that I forgot when I ran out 10 years ago because I need to order some for a similar job...lol

Didn't know I quoted you. Just thought that was pretty cool of Racey whipping up a spindle for a friend
