First trip with the ecoboost.

Averaged 20mpg on the way out at 75-80 and a stiff headwind most of the way. Non stop Chino to Parker other than a 10 min break to breast feed when we got on Rice rd. 17 3.5 eco with 10spd, max tow, fx4 4x4 and 3.55 gears. Lifetime ave is 20.2 so hoping to get better on the way home. I'll keep it at 70.
Had a nice twilight cruise last night, now waiting for the fam to wake up so we can go up river for breakfast.

I was going to ask the same question as I just picked up a 2016 Ecoboost, 3.5, 4x4 super crew, would have to check gearing, 6 speed though. Just did round trip from Colorado to Parker, first long trip. About 2K miles. I would guess I averaged just around 80MPH (all through Utah the speed limit is 80). Not towing, but good size load in the bed. I got 18.2. Seemed low to me.........

For comparison purposes that's way better than the normal 6 cylinder gets.

I have a 2013 Crew Cab but with only the 3.7 base motor in it. No lift but I did put 265's on it. I am lucky to get 15 mpg around town. Maybe 18 on the freeway if I keep it under 70.


My big ass Chevy got better than that. And it was a 4 door, long bed, 4x4, 1 ton on 285's... LOL

EcoBoost is pretty amazing. I wonder how it will hold up over the long term?

Wonder the same thing about the long term. We went with a 6.2 Silverado after looking at the 3.5 and the 5.0. An EB lariat setup the same was 10k more.

Well this is the gen 2 eco with direct and port injection, hope they worked the kinks out. Extended power train warranty may be in my future.

For me going 80 in my 6 speed 3.5 ecoboost with bigger tires. I get 17-18 mpg. If I slow it down to 70 I can get 22. The tires killed my gas mileage because of the extra weight

These turboed trucks are much more sensitive to bigger tires than NA trucks. You have to get into boost to get them to move, and when you do that they burn alot of extra fuel. That is the price you pay for the bigger tires and leveling/lift kits.

You would be correct! However, I haven't found the computer to be very accurate even with the correct size tires

So on a known distance-you know exactly how many miles from havasu to home-calculate by trip computer and then by hand. I've got big tires on my 5.4 and mileage went down on trip computer by a lot. Hand call, wasn't as much.

Having the computer recalibrated for tire size and gear ratio it should be pretty damn close. My wifes 2016 tahoe is right on the money, my 2007 dodge is about .5 mpg off

This is about right, and I'm sure these stats were collected with stock tires and NOT driving 70-80 miles per hour

My F-150 with stock skinny tires pulls the boat and TT like a freight train, keeping @ 60 mph or less, usually between 8-10 mpg on the computer. The above stats are bang on for the truck unloaded. You guys with oversized tires must have some magic potion poured in your tanks to get those numbers @70+
I believe in filling the tank at the gas station til the nozzle stops, drive a 100-200 miles ,refill, then calculate.:thumbsup

Which V8 does your Tundra have Magic34?

5.7L w/ TRD charger on it. The super charger helps a ton. Friends w/o the extra HP are getting 12-14 in town. To be fair, if I am driving it normal, not super easy on the gas, it drops to 18 in town, but I'm always above 20 on the highway between 70-75 MPH.

In my experience its not the odometer that is off but the amount of fuel used. It is anywhere from 1 gallon more than what was actually used or 1 gallon less.

I kept it under 75 on the way back. Stopped once at Roc's for some great food and to feed the baba. Surprised I got the actual advertised highway mileage.
