So we had an awesome Havasu weekend out on the lake Friday and Saturday. We took the new to us float and got confirmation our 8 month old loves the water. She even found her own place to hang out in to stay out of the sun. She loves the water itself, but doesn’t care much for sun directly to her face lol.
Sunday, time to head home towing the boat. Usual path, take Desert Center the 62/177 to the 10. After the bug check point got a Good Samaritan flash the high beams, slowed down to 62 and continued. 5 miles up, pass a CHP off to the side waiting to provide “service” to someone. Cool kept going. Cruising speed got up to 75 with the flow of the crowd. About another 10 miles through the ups and downs and guess what I see coming at me lol another CHP. I knew I was got! See him flipping a u’y so I start to slow down and pull over. I haven’t had any LEO encounters since I’ve had my CCW so I won’t lie, I got a bit nervous since you never know what kind of day they have had or training or the experience of “hey I got a gun on me”. Upon being lit up, I pulled my license and CCW card out to not go reaching while on the hook and put the gun in my door so it’s not visible as he walks up and startle him.
CHP: Clocked you at 75 in 55 so 20 over while towing
Me: Ok
CHP: Can I have your license, registration and insurance
Me: Here is my license and I also have this card for you
CHP: (looking at what I gave him, realizes it’s a CCW, looks back in the car sees my wife, my baby in a car seat, and two female cousins in the back) are you carrying the 19?
Me: No the EMP
CHP: Where is it?
Me: My driver door
CHP: Ok, leave it there. I don’t see that on here, ohh wait, this 9mm 1911.
Have wife give him registration
Me: I have an electronic copy of my insurance just need to find it.
CHP: It’s ok, I trust you.
Leaves and comes back
CHP: I wrote you up for 60 in 55 and marked non commercial so it doesn’t affect you and you can do traffic school.
Then continued to just BS about other things before sending us on our way and to have a good rest of the day & be safe. Guy seemed eager to just talk to someone lol. I would have gladly chatted for a bit with out the ticket but over all, he was super respectful and just doing his job. Throughout being pulled over, I think he noticed I had my hands at the steering wheel as to show I’m no threat without having to be asked. Aside from the speeding ticket, I don’t think the full experience could have been any smoother. So thanks if you’re on this forum!
