To preface my favorite two movies are Back to the Future and Raiders of the Lost Ark. However, the movie that just was so over the top for me was The Matrix. When that opening scene was going on and Trinity was being chased, you automatically think she is one of the bad guys. Or when Morpheus is sitting with Neo after he takes the red pill and his mind is "freed" and he learns everything he knows to be real, isn't. Hard to believe this year marks 20 years ago that movie came out!

What movie just really made you think or was mind blowing to you? And if any of you clowns say Avatar please don't post :D

I know we have a Movie/TV section but this isn't really about what's new or a review.

Porkey’s :D:D:D remember sneaking in the theatre with some friends. Mind was blown at that early age

hahaha, yeah when I was a kid we seriously thought seeing Porkey's was like watching porn. I was about 11 years old when it came out so literally the age a boy starts to realize what all that stuff is. :D

From what I remember, movies up until 86 ish always had an awesome Nude scene, From Halloween to Friday the 13th to Porkys... Now, even a nip slip is rated R..

Jurrasic Park was the first film with hard core digitally enhanced FX that I was like, wow, different level game changer shit for sure. I agree, the shit they did in the Matrix I had the same feeling, like, holy shit! Again, they just upped the bar.

Most recent was the Star Wars flick "Rogue One" (which by the way was probably my favorite SW film). The way they brought Grand Moff Tarkin back. Was nothing short of spectacular. And talk about a game changer, don't even need an actor anymore, just digitally create them. I was sitting in the theatre watching that with my fuckin mouth open in amazement. Elbowing my wife and kids like, "that dudes been dead for 20 years!!!" Helped he was such a spectacular actor and it was nice to see him on the big screen again. I was absolutely blown away like never before. Insane

The only movie that I walked out of the theater with my mind blown was...

Pulp Fiction

That's a good one. Definitely a game changer in terms of everything from the music score and cinematography to the story line to and how it played out.

Only part I didn't like about that movie was the drug use. I can't handle seeing it as it just bothers the heck out of me. I did however love the movie.

Maybe I’m alone on this but I thought matrix was horrible.

I can't say I don't think it's a little cheesy, but I still love it and the concept. My parents don't like it either, but my Dad is 75 :D

The Wild Bunch, 1969.
Made Butch and Sundance which came out the same year look like a musical comedy. I like both but nothing like the ‘Bunch had been done before. For better or worse it ushered in violence in films.

Seems like with the Matrix the fan base is absolutely split. You either loved it or hated it. You don't get a lot of people that were like, "it's ok" LOL. I loved it. But I love Science Fiction, so not a shocker there.

I love movies, in particular, plot twist and psych concept ones. Ones that really got me thinking after I left the theater in somewhat chronological order:

Usual Suspects
The Matrix
Fight Club
Vanilla Sky (not one of my favorites, but really got my head going)
Interstellar
Gone Girl

Yeah the Matrix wasn't some completely wacked out twist, but it was enough to really make you go "huh"? Plus the slow bullets and fight scenes were shit that has never been seen before. I always dig the whole green sepia tone look to the movie. The waterfalling green numbers are still iconic to this day; whether people saw the movie or not, they know what they were from.

When I first read this I thought you were saying like F/X stuff. Guess my reading comprehension is not up to snuff. LOL

Plot twist stuff that blew me away:
Pulp Fiction was a great plot jumping / twist.
6th sense, I was like, "OH SHIT!" Walked out of the theatre and my wife says, really? you didn't know Willis was dead 1/4 way through? LOL
I was pretty shocked at The Village too.
And Usual Suspects.

BLAZING SADDLES

Nothing compares
and one of the movies that will never have a sequel

I almost said Blazing Saddles. It truly changed comedy in movies forever. I can't say it blew me away though. However, if you showed it to a bunch of millennials I am sure their minds would be blown. :D

I'll probably get kicked off RDP for this but I never liked Blazing Saddles. I even tried watching it again a few months back and couldn't even get through it.

So true- I showed my son and his GF and they just looked at each other in shock. He's watched it a few times since though.

I meant the movie as a whole, just not plot twist. The Matrix truly was different than anything ever produced. From the F/X to the plot, to the overall look of the film, choreographed fight scenes, the green makes the movie truly feel cold in a way no other movie has done before that. The odd mix of old time items (old TVs, phones, cars) strewn throughout the film to futuristic stuff was also very cool to me.

For a movie that is 20 years old, it has aged remarkably well. I think due to it was so ahead of it's time. Not my favorite movie, just the one that blew me away. :)

hahahaha. Oh I liked it, but not the funniest comedy of all time. I will probably get kicked off for saying some of the ones I think are the funniest.

Hangover 1 and 2
Wedding Crashers
Billy Madison
Happy Gilmore
All the Vacations

Out of those, it would be Hangover that blew my mind. hahaha. Definitely a new style of comedy never seen before. The idea behind it was so out there for sure.

I agree, the original concept of the Hangover was new and refreshing. Very well done. I think you're right also, Back to the future was a classic that brought something fresh, was funny and still had a great plot and plot twists.

BTTF is my favorite movie of all time. The only thing I don't like about it was it had to end :D It had everything in it. Just the perfect movie. They actually use it as an example of a perfect movie at the LA Film School. I think the reason it didn't blow me away the first time I saw it was I was only 12 or so and everything was ooooh and ahhh to me.

I never thought of that but you're (or LA Film School) is actually correct: action, adventure, sci-fi, bad guy, good guy, love interest, comedy, pretty indepth plot, some drama, etc. Basically EVERYTHING. It's a classic for sure. One of those movies I'll watch every time it's on the tube. Wonder how it would've been if Eric Stoltz would've retained the character of Marty Mcfly? I did Stoltz and his work. Just don't know if he could have pulled off the goofie bewilderment of Fox.

Speaking of that....

The Road blew my mind. Talk about a DARK, realistic look at a post apocalyptic world. No Hollywood bullshit with that movie. That movie came out swinging and was like, the end of the world as we know it is not going to be fun. It wont be exciting. It wont be good, AT ALL. Super depressing movie but it was SO GOOD. And I was absolutely blown away at how good and dark it was.

Jaws. Real people in real situations that I could relate to. An evil that is believable and unseen. Too notch acting with a good script. Hooper talking about the USS Indianapolis was chilling even to a teenaged boy like me.
As a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's both Mr. Roberts and Angels With Dirty Faces made big impressions on me in regards to how adult men behave in times of trouble.
