The original dates SCFW had for 2024. On day one of SCFW 23, DS announced the 2024 dates and moved weekends.
Now they scheduled the boat show on the SCFW 24 dates.

end of day, DS is forcing folks to pick weekends and events and IMO not seeing how both events can work together.

Now I’m a gambling man. But if @RiverDave went with the first weekend of May there’s a chance DS gets blown out and Super Cat could be a great weekend.

Definitely a delicate dance. But splitting crowds is going to hurt one event or the other.

First weekend in May has always been the Tickfaw 200.

SCFW could work during the boat show, since most of SCFW events are at night, excluding the fun runs.

Personally I think SCFW would win over 5-6 years.

Well that’s kind of my problem.. while the boat show isn’t overly profitable for us, it’s a long standing tradition and I really enjoy it.


I would totally be ok pushing forward but the problem is a lot of the east coast guys don’t want to pull their boats that early.. they have to de winterize them and pull them through inclement weather to get here etc..

Believe it or not there’s a lot more to picking the date than “this works for havasu”.

East Coast will show up in LHC middle of April. Perfect weather will be great to look forward to at end of Winter for East Coast people. Riviera was awesome 2023,even better 2024. Riviera Incredible Venue. DS would be there if you guys had not brought SCFW off the drawing board into reality.

I am still talking to Alvin about this.. his current stance is we should do it Boatshow weekend. I have my pluses and minuses on that.

It doesn’t seem like they are giving us much choice though.

Also, like Dave pointed out - across the country organizers do their best not to
Conflict with other events because so many people try to do numerous events each season. One big point of SCFW is to draw east coast boats out. If the date conflicts with a long standing PR, you’re gonna lose a lot of people.

DS has no interest in riviera. I talked to them they want to keep Boatshow and DS at Windsor

Then take the boat show with you to Rivera. In the water boat show vs on land isn’t comparable. Not to mention you also have a parking lot show.

And if they don’t want to join I guess you do the same week as the boat show and let the people decide.

But my guess is that more people want to see the big stuff. And that draw will pull the other manufacturers over to SC.

Edit. Mine as well reach out to NWSRA and see if they want to schedule a race with Super Cat.

My vote would be to have Supercatfest boat show weekend.

Or @RiverDave could combine Supercatfest West and RDP all boat regatta and have it the second or third week of September.

Put the whole thing on Rivera property and have RDP promote and run the show. I think the only issue is that Desert Storm is tied to the boat show?

Based on what I see in this thread, the folks at DS are doing what they think is best for their business and Dave is the only one who is trying to do what’s right for boating overall. I know nothing but what I have read here but that is what it appears to be.

If it were up to me, I would start making business decisions versus what is best overall. Let the boaters decide. Making “business decisions“ is tough but you have to do what you have to do at times. It isn’t easy in my experience.

Pebble Beach concours started as a car race event that had a few cars on display in 1950.

Now it is a multi week event with multiple car shows / multi day race events / auto auctions & virtually every car club in the world showing up and hosting some event. It's gone through crazy growth.

It could be great for the city of Havasu and the synergy could pull in many more folks if the groups could work together. It's too bad that the boat show and DS are determined to leverage CFW to try to help their boat show.

If I'm Dave - I would go head to head with the boat show (yes it will help boat show attendance short term) while at the same time trying every trick in the book to lure away as many vendors as possible with free both space (or some other enticing offer) to Riviera.

Over time the vendors will see the value of the Marina and the CFW events as the place to be then start to charge them once they have done a year or three and see the benefits of being there compared to the boat show.

Obv if I'm Dave - The boat show is a no go for RPD.

Before you know it, CFW will be the boat show - literally.

Nice thing about the schedule this year was you could take a week off and enjoy both events. That to me is a bigger draw for both events.
