Dude. That turned out awesome. I built mine and really screwed up the top. I want to re-do the whole thing now.

You would need a concrete guy for that look. Same as pool coping

Try Thompsons in Fontucky
X3, if you go the design center in the back they can make it different colors and different finishes. Although it might be cheaper to have some pour that in place.

Fire brick inside
Remove that flex gas line, do no use flex!
And see your own pics to do pour in place, Stone needs to be removed
No easy way to set form now with stone wrapping the top, cap should have been done first, then stone
Stegmeier forms that don’t need wood on outside still need flat surface to mount to,so they won’t work either.
Did you add drain inside so it doesn’t fill with water when it rains?
If she built over existing deck drain ( possibly since it looks like control joints center under firepit) will deck drain or flood now?
Only option now is buy precast. Since she used radius block should be able to find cap to match radius.
And yes if in eastvale, Thompsons in Fontana or resource in chino

Otherwise looks like she does decent work, good job

The finished Cap that you posted is a poured in place concrete cap

in order to do that a layer or 2 of the stone your wife installed needs to be removed to set forms to hold the concrete cap in placed while the cap is poured.

you have several to choose from

1- pour a concrete cap like you posted
2-buy a pre cast cap - with this you need to make sure your block diameter match the cap diameter
3- use a non square stone / granite cap like a flagstone or a type of paver chipped to fit the diameter of the ring

Take a Hammer drill and make a bunch of holes 1/2" about 5-6 inches down from the top in the open spaces not filled with concrete. Repeat at the bottom on the inside.
Fuel needs a good oxygen source to burn clean. Once you get a good bed of coals stack the wood a few inches away from the outside perimeter.

I Can't stand stinky fires. Not rocket science by any means.

Line that inner block with fire brick. The cinder block will pop with high heat and moisture trapped in them.

That was first thing I noticed. Also don’t use any old rock it has to be for fire like lava rock. Our neighbors grenaded and it was pure luck no one was injured.

Thanks, a lot of good info here, they sold her that flex, I planned on hard plumbing it, we had a drain and gas line installed there when we had the pool built

Also don't pour concrete in the bottom, it might blow up too.

You can get a pre fab fire ring to replace that flex line.
