I saw some bulls on the north side of HWY 40 about 5-10 miles east of Water Rd. I had no idea there was wild cattle out there. I searched online and it looks like some hikers have been chased down by some pissed off bulls. LOL

Has anyone else seen them out there?

I doubt they are ferral, likely open grazing.

Quite a few on the Az side of 40, beyond Kingman.

Dinner.

Dan'l

That was my first thought but don't ranchers usually de-horn them?

Here's an article I found.

In a lot of open grazing areas they don't dehorn them. It allows them some defense against predators...and hikers...and the aren't crowded in like on feed lots. There are a few bigger leases out there, miles and miles. Met a kid at a shop in Needles...long sleeves, hat, buckle and blue jeans...it was July. Talking with him, he was a 4th generation rancher from out that way. That would be a whole family of folk I wouldn't mess with.

Yep! We get calls a few times a year from people that think we need to go give them water.
That's pretty sad...Both that people think they are neglected animals, and that you guys should help them out.

It's also your responsibility to keep them off your private property, but if properly fenced you can go after cow owner for damage to said fence and property 😉

This one got in but couldn't figure its way out. I found it last year after returning from Ca..

A tree limb fell on the fence line and made a path where it got in. The fence has been mended.

Dove Springs (the one in Rattlesnake Canyon) is one of Billy Mitchell's long time leases and he's far from a "new rancher". They have been doing improvements to the water troughs, fencing, etc latley that were long over due. The vandalism in that area has made it very difficult to keep up on repairs and has been getting worse.

Yup, I've hired that family as day labor for two fencing projects. Great people, tough as nails though.

I beleave you but he was not using any of the pen for years ! It was the ranger who told us it was a new lease so that's where that info came from . We have been ridding there some in our group since the late 70's .

Billy is a very nice guy but gives off a different vibe when you run into him out that way. Usually you'll run into Willy or Harvey first but they're all protective of the cattle and infrastructure. All of them are off roaders and good people. The Greenies have been trying to close Rattle Snake Canyon to off road use for years and leave Billy's lease in place but he constantly fights to keep it open. Unfortunately with the speeds that some idiots travel through there he may be fighting a loosing battle. We have been trying for many years to slow people down crossing the ranch and up the canyon but the "new" groups of SXS owners will eventually get it closed down. Very unfortunate.

I agree with you to a extent . We always do our best to off road responsibly . The land is owned by " WE THE PEOPLE " BLM is who manages it . Somewhere the BLM has decided OUR land is no longer for us but to the highest bidder . We the body road rider get a small net work of trails to ride while lease owners get square miles for grazing or sun and wind farms . We like the cattle so we enjoy seeing them . Good luck to your friends they have made nice improvements over the last 10 years .👍🏻

Rancher only has the right to graze the land, they have over taping rights. rancher miner hunter ect. You should be good camping there.

They say you have to stay 600 ft from water source which the rangers have decided a old water trough that has not seen water in a decade counts . Like I said we appreciate ranchers so it is what it is but the hypocrisy is a whole nother conversation .

Back in the late '70s, there used to be a herd (probably still is) along the road from Searchlight to Cottonwood Cove. What was unique about this one, was a white stallion that was always perched up on a hill keeping an eye on his flock. Whenever we saw the mares, we'd stop and start looking for rises, and sure enough, he was up there watching us REAL close.
