Fender rock guard

What are people using on the inner side of the fender as a rock guard
My old 1s are wood in good shape but wanted to upgrade to a better material then wood ?

I haven’t, but thought to do a set out of 1/2” birch, glass the carriage bolts in than have them shot in LineX. My boat sits a ways over them so no worry of damage to boat and should look good and last a long time.

I used this 5/8 thick nylon (I think) material. Cuts and drills pretty clean. I don’t think it would scratch or leave a mark on gelcoat.It’s not “blingy” but you would probably never need to replace it. This is a rem from the corner cut on a bandsaw.

Used the same product on my fenders 3yrs ago. sanded with 80 grit and glued marine carpet to hull side, stapled over edge with stainless steel staples on wheel side. No issues und will never have to replace.

Looks like Delrin to me, but could be myriad of other stuff. Should be able to get it in sheet form pretty easily.

I'm considering an ABS type material with the ability to glue and staple carpet. Only wrap and staple the top and sides.....Do not wrap the bottom,,,

staple only... to eliminate water from settling in the bottom and premature carpet rot

It was called Puckboard. It's used on various construction projects and of course around hockey rinks, comes in a variety of colors and thickness.
Should be able to get it from your local hardware outlet or have it ordered in. It's made from polyethylene.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. The stuff I’m getting is used as a scuff liner in the semi trailers to keep the fork lift drivers putting pallets through the side walls

Got the composite material from @BUDMAN, works awesome. Easy to cut, used a table saw for to cut the height, the a jigsaw for the radius, than my router for making the cut edges match the edge that it comes with.

Drills easy as well, was nice & easy to use my countersink for the stainless bolts

All in all should be an awesome upgrade as it should last 10 years or more with absolutely no problem.Tomorrow for the other side, should be a bit easier and faster on round two.

It’s a plastic material designed as a rub rail in a semi trailer, as well for my boat it sits up above it. I see no reason whatsoever why carpet would beneficial at all.

Agreed. Carpet would serve no purpose with this stuff other than collecting water.

And sand, and create a maintenance item, and look like shit, and put holes in the plastic...... yup no benefit at all imho.
