So, just an update on this.

After yanking the roof rack off and seeing how bad it was (and getting the stellar RDP advice here 😁 ) I was like, "FUCK!" I put the rack back on and siliconed the edges hoping it wouldn't leak for now while I decided what to do.

Checked a couple body shops for quotes. I was getting quotes for 5k-7k to cut out metal or even entire roof to replace. Or 2k-3k to do the bondo type thing which would only last a couple years. Buddy owns a dealer / shop and said he could do it maaaaaaaybe as low as 1500 for the bondo / fiberglass crap but advised me to sell it. He also had a pretty nice 17 Escalade on his lot I was thinking of trading in for but I seriously don't want car payments. This Yukon only has 80k miles and every option 4wd 2500. Love the thing. No payment. Really don't want to get rid of it. Especially when we put like 4k miles a year on it.

Then, to my surprise, Dan (H2oToie) text me and says, "send me the pics of your roof I can have my body guy look at them". I'm thinking to myself, this is a waste of time, big body shop is going to be somewhere in the 5k range to do it right. But I said, F it and sent them to him with zero expectations. He text me a few days later with a price to cut the pieces out and replace with metal (the right way) and repaint the whole roof. Let me just say, about 1/4 the price. I told my wife, we have to get the Yukon to Valencia ASAP!! She says, You know Christmas is coming maybe we should wait, and I'm like NO WAY, we have to do this NOW, I'm not missing this deal! LOL

Took it out and met with Dan's guy. Coolest dude, totally chill. I also asked him to get me a quote on glass replacement since we had a big crack in the windshield from a drive back from havasu last year. Guy text me every couple days with updates and pics of progress and kept communication flowing. Came back with glass replacement for like $300 I think it was. I said, yep, do it! Job, of course, turned into a lot more work than he thought but he 100% stuck with his original quote (that was from photos mind you).

I told him originally to not worry about putting the roof rack back on because he was cutting the mounting holds out and I figured it'd be a lot more work to put them back in after replacing the sheet metal. But, he texts about a week into the job and says, "hey, I can put the roof rack back on if you want." I'm thinking, he's giving such a good price I don't want to make him work more and it may look pretty cool with out the roof rack. Dan was on the text and he agreed it would look better with out the roof rack so I say, nah, no roof rack.

He finished it all up and I go pick it up. Not only is the work impeccable, he had the whole thing detailed to the 9's! I actually paid $300 to get it detailed during the summer, interior, exterior, wax, wheels, etc. and I gotta say, I've never had it better than his guys did it. Shit looks brand new. I go to give him the rest of the money and he absolutely will not take more than quoted. I say hey, I'll venmo you more money, I see how much work you put into it and this detail job is a few hundo at least. He's like nope. Deals a deal, all good.

So, if you need a straight up, awesome body shop that is honest and does insanely great work for fair to great pricing, hit up Geoff at Patterson's Auto Body in Valencia (near Teagues). You will not be disappointing.

Here's some after pics and a keep sake he let me take home. LOL

I've grown up on the beach and through the years of having harleys and custom cars with chrome parts I've learned to stay on top of that stuff but no matter how meticulous you are there's just a certain amount of "give" you have to have. Shit will not stay perfect living at the beach. Buddy bought a beach house and moved from Camarillo a few years back. Had ferrraris and lambos and harleys and shit and wold complain NON STOP about how difficult it was to keep his shit nice. He even tried those air tight harley bags to keep the moisture out. Didn't work. Drove him crazy. He finally moved off the beach and I think the main reason was because of this. Living at the beach is nice but you definitely give up some stuff, like keeping your shit in show room condition. Or having acreage or a huge house (unless you're a major baller). Is what it is. 🤷‍♂️
Until one's lived near shore they don't get how crucial garages are..... hell, just a shortage of surface parking is an issue.... but thats just part of the deal....so happy this story on your truck came out positive. I'm all about saving aging depreciating assets when possible and the replacement value of that truck is creeping around 80K I bet. Good choices.... shows [again] the power of RDP network.... I think you owe Dan something along the lines of Handy, Head or Hooker. Your choice of course ;)

LOL

I'd say I'd pick up his next bar tab but that would probably cost more than the repair! LOL

I priced out a brand new tahoe for shits and giggles. Not an XL but just the tahoe. not 4wd just 2wd and not the bigger motor either figuring I have a diesel to tow the boat. Still came to 75k! Fuuuuuuuuuuck all that.

Yes they do.

Dan would you trust him with an Exotic? I have a Masi GT that I dont like how the selling dealer re-sprayed the rear bumper. I may have found my guy if so.

If it helps he had like 3 brand new range rovers and a bunch of other dealer plated cars in there.

Yes in a heartbeat. BUT don't expect a VW price on high end stuff.

After owning a Ferrari, I understand the "tax" LOL. But I also dont mind paying for extra care though and quality work.

Need my excursion roof done. I'll give him a call after I get some pics.

Pardon if I missed it, but what was the turn around time?

Think it was like 2.5 weeks total. But that was also over thanksgiving. I also wasn't in a hurry at all. We don't drive it much, so no biggie.

LOL I don't know if she'd want me showing them right now. She's been on lock down with home schooling and losing her MIND! 😆

Yards a bit neglected right now. ;)

What's going on with your boat Tank?
Almost done Al. Shit ton of work. All new hardware off the transom, new dash, new stereo system, new fuel plumbing, new port block, new sea strainers, new LED lights in out and under, endless other small stuff. Barrett still has it. Just came out of paint. Got a few small things to address and then the Seadeck goes in the cockpit, cabin and a strip down the bow. Then back to Ca. for some winter offshore running. Then back to Havasu for Desert Storm, spring into summer. Let me know when you want to roll down and we'll go run. We used it in Oct though for a shake down. Put over 300 miles on it in 12 days. Success! ;) 👍

That's a tough pill to swallow. I want to drag it to Lake Pend Orielle for the fun run in Idaho in July.

And by the way, we're booked for LOTO Cig run in June. Get your shit together Danimal.

I'd be interested to see a pic of the SeaDek installed on the bow after it's done.

I actually think it looks a little funky on stu's and takes away from the nice sleak lines of the Gun. But the Cafe has that indented portion of the bow right down the middle that I think the matting will set into really nice and not stand out too much. I hear AJ is going to run the Cigarette script in the flooring down the bow. Looking forward to seeing what he does.

These are my "Knuckleheads on loan"... I taught them each to drive offshore.... issues were they had no fear so I always had to stand behind them to grab throttle once we got airborne.... now they've all hit puberty so all about chasing boys rather than boating.

That one has a great future ahead of him..... Jr baller style.... I can't imagine what it would've been like to have a pops with a Cig when I was that age.
I say it all the time. Whole reason I wanted to get another cigarette was to raise these kids around the lifestyle and give them that life experience. I love the stories of friends that grew up and their dad had a boat (no matter what it was) and they'd go to the river or lake or offshore or whatever. You can see people that grew up with that talk about it with a spark in their eye. It has a huge affect on kids and breeds the next generation of boaters and distills that work ethic of if you want something like this, you need to work for it and make it happen.

Will definitely want to go for a run when it's done! I am so lucky to have experienced the offshore boating world of the early 2000's. I love where I live now but I do miss ocean boating and hanging out with cool friends on the water. And while there are faster, nicer boats like OL's, Skaters, MTI's, etc. to me, a Cig is still the classic most desirable off shore boat there is. I mean, they call them "Cigarette Boats" after all! I may get another one someday. Kind of wish I had bought Kevin's CR when I had the chance.

How about you drag that thing up to Tahoe and we'll do a run there? I'll bet we could gather a bunch of RDP members to join us (Grads can stay home!) or Big Cat PR if it comes back.

Yeah, Kevin's CR was so clean. Great boat. We had a lot of good times on that thing.

I'm totally down to roll up to Tahoe. Always wanted to do that run.

Cool! Let me know when you're ready. Maybe I can get Scott to bring his Hallett up too.
