A Designated Pilot Examiner for student pilots makes $800 for a 5 hour check ride… and they only except cash at that rate. If you are a really good student it make not even take 5 hours…
Pffft...that's only $160.00/hr.....
Weak sauce.....lol
Can he do 10/week? Now were talkin....

Under the table, probably over 200 if he was on a payroll. As to how many they can do I am not sure but my DPE is scheduled close to a month out. I have been told it’s rare to go the full 5 hours making the rate even higher. So he is self employed, has all the advantages of a business on taxes and makes his own schedule.

He gets to play God with your 800 bucks and if you do anything to piss him off he fails you and makes to pay again for another try. Lol.

Just yesterday a guy had a heart attack and drove his car into a group of high school kids killing one of them. My boys knew them,,,,

What happens when truck drivers start dying behind the wheel?
I feel like it is already happening - if u watch the chp incident page, there are so many more accidents now - significant medical events. But they will never admit it until we start forcing them to and speaking up when this happens to family members or friends. The media is our enemy.

when you have regional airlines paying upwards of $400/hr for Check Airmen and 100K sign-on bonuses makes ya wonder!
Oh. You’re talking about the regionals. Ya, I agree. You’re looking at the end of the regional model. It doesn’t make sense anymore. Look for the regional model to be folded into the majors. I know the wholly owned ones will go first. Not sure what will happen to SkyWest, but that model doesn’t make sense at some point.

You should just be focused on getting your seniority number at a major though. Doesn’t matter what you are making there, your long term earnings will be far more at a major. My airline is starting a CTP program to prepare for pilot candidates straight from CFI since our pool of qualified candidates is shrinking so rapidly. Lots of pilots will be able to skip the regionals all together pretty soon.

Ya I am currently a Check Airman with a charter company that was previously owed by a major, bought out by another operator. Defiantly looking at going back to the "Air Line"! Skywest owns its planes so I think they will just attempt to start their own route structure or be like JSX and go the 135 route to try and get away from the 121 hour requirements! Good Times

So, how far away are we from us peak physical and mental fitness specimens being able to take a 40 hour course to become a commercial pilot?

I’d be trying to leave wheels up asap for a seniority number at a major..

Skywest is way to big to go the 135 route. That didn’t pan out well for Great Lakes. I spent 10 years at SkyWest. No clue how they will find pilots when the majors have the same minimums..
