I had what.was called a Class C paddock pass to one of the USGP races held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the early 2000s. It was very restrictive. The face value was $2,000, and my access to the garage common area and similar spaces was limited to the first two rounds of qualifications, and no race day access.

The view from the front of the suite owned by my IndyCar driver was good. I could see the grid off to the left and the braking zone for Turn 1. Looking out the rear of the suite I could see Turns 2-5 and the run down Hulman Blvd.

It seemed like everything had a price tag on it, and those races were operated in kindergarten fashion compared to Miami and now Las Vegas. I'd like to know some figures on the money being made, must be crazy numbers.

F1 have always been notorious dicks about their licensing.

Before Eccelstone sold to Liberty you couldn't even post a picture or clip of yourself watching a snippet of the race onto your twitter or other social media feed. They would copyright strike your account for litterally having a picture of your feet up on the table with a beer in your hand and the race on the tv.

Absolutely dumbass, and probably one of the main reasons that F1 never did well in the US through the 2000s until Liberty took over, nobody could share that they were watching the race.

Like someone said above, this is how modern corporate vegas treats it's customers so too bad so sad that the shoe is on the other foot.

I'd like to know how much the casinos had to pay Liberty/F1 to get the race for 10 years.

I'm a European so I'm biased, but I'd much rather watch an F1 race in Monaco or Italy for this kind amoney.. Same story when we used to go to clubs to party when I was younger.

It's not the fact that Vegas is expensive, it's that you pay all this money and it's STILL restrictive and they treat you like toddlers. I remember we got a table and spent a ton of money at one of the clubs I think it was Caesars, and some dickhead security kept telling me I can't lean over the railing or some shit.

Dude.. You spend that kind of money in Europe or anywhere in the world, they let you do whatever the fuck you want and you actually feel like a king, not a toddler that's told where to stand. In Vegas you're just another sucker.

To put the money in perspective, Bernie bought his daughter the $150 million home that once belonged to Aaron Spelling.

Interesting article about the gestapo tactics F1 is using. I went to the inaugural COTA race and had vip Red Bull tent tickets through a racing friend in Texas. I can’t see going to any of these events and paying that price but that’s just me. Only exception would be races in Europe while on vacation I suppose. My sister & BIL bought general admission tickets while in Hungry last week & had a good time.

Every major sports team shakes the public down for hundreds of millions and sometimes billions of subsidies for their place of work and then blocks local TV, charges Bars and restaurants a large licensing fee to show the game and even charges 2500 bucks a person for a good seat for a few hour game.

I've never understood why taxpayers keep voting to subsidize athletes who make tens of millions and owners whose team is worth billions. But they do.

This seems like just about the same shakedown.

In the case of Arlington, the city has used taxpayer money to help build an entertainment district that includes AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, Globe Life Ballpark, Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, and dozens of hotels and restaurants. Over several decades, the city has issued well over a few billion in bonds, and raised sales taxes.

Everything that's been financed by the city has either already been paid off or is years ahead of the scheduled debt retirement. The citizens of Arlington have gladly participated in these endeavors, and the local economy has received billions from the effort.

I suspect this success is rare, and most municipalities that subsidize stadiums dont benefit in this manner.

Veer condo F-1 info. They’re going to eliminate the gym and everything from the pool deck on the east tower where I’m at put up bleachers and have a non-hosted bar inside the gym.

Tickets depending upon the day or $75 to 350 still working on food catering too.

And of course, with a big complex here’s the issue as an owner I’m only allowed to purchase a total of six tickets. So sorry, RDP people that kind of leaves it out considering my family is for but quite frankly a good part of the time will be sitting inside of our unit watching everything front row center.
I think a lot of the people in the west tower on the south side of the building will buy those tickets
They’ve already announced this entire area at 5 PM Thursday through Sunday. I’m gonna be locked down tighter than Fort Knox no way in and no way out..
And they gonna open it back up at 2 AM in the morning because all the race track is open till at least 1 AM.

I just took these one of the photo shows a Tropicana in The Background that’s gonna be leveled in the next year or so and they’re going to build the baseball stadium. Other to show the strip view the paving is all done in the area for Formula One and you could see Harmon Avenue all the way to the paddock. They just haven’t finished the parking area of the paddock yet. it will be open all year round after the first race. Keep in mind it’s for tourism also and they have a 10 year commitment.

So you’re telling me f1 is still in business. I only watch actual racing, not sanction controlled hot laps where passing, rubbing, and strategy aren’t part of it. Have a good time, I’m going to spend money where I get something in return

Do I read that as you have a ticket to your place? And limit how many can be in your house?

You should rent a nice long lens and DSLR camera and have some kids take a few close-up pics! At worst it will be useful for the MLS if you ever sell the place

I’m sorry, but if you haven’t paid the F1,”SURCHARGE “ the company I work for has the contract to use the window washer rigs to install giant black curtains on race day. Nobody watches for free.

Landing fees are going up too.

“**Las Vegas Area Airports – Prior Permission and Landing Fees**

One of our members gave us a heads up that the Las Vegas area airports (KLAS, KHND and KVGT) will require a reservation/prior permission and a $3,000 arrival fee for all general aviation traffic during the upcoming Formula 1 race (November 14 – 20). The arrival fee is non-refundable and applies from November 14 – 18. PPR reservations will not be completed until the fee is paid in full. Further research indicates that KLAS will require PPR for all GA traffic from October 5 to December 13 via NOTAM. This PPR and fee cycle will repeat for the Super Bowl – February 7 – 12, 2024.

We reached out to the AOPA Western Pacific Regional Manager, Jared Yoshiki, to get their feedback and he indicated that they had reached out to the FAA and Clark County to get some further information on the basis for these fees. We’ll provide an update once we get some information from Jared.

If you are planning to transit through the Las Vegas area during these events, please be sure to use all available information for your flight planning to avoid any PPR and fee surprises.”

Oh thank god.
All the traffic nightmare will be on days when I don’t have to drive through Vegas.

Fyi; Harmon will be open to the south entrance of the Cosmopolitan. That’s also the signal light where are you can do a drop off or valet on the north entrance to the Aria. And those that haven’t been in Las Vegas in a few years about a year and a half ago they built a bridge for Harman as it now over the railroad tracks onto Valleyview, which is gonna be a great North/south St. west of I 15.

Early next week, Tropicana is going to be closed at interstate 15 both directions for a few days and then during the race it’s going to open up for east and west with a new configurations to allow three lanes east and west over interstate 15. Looks like they’re going to have interstate 15 open with perhaps five lanes in each direction about that time too as it’s undergoing $1 billion widening.

Pretty sure they could pack the Sphere at $1k a pop to watch it live. Maybe throw in a few Red Bulls and High Noons...

Just got back from Vegas again yesterday, the viewing barricades have gone up in a lot of places, all the bridges have film covered plexiglass and now 7 or 8 foot fences up in front of the plexi to block views from walkways, and made all the grand stands high enough so almost anyone in hotels cannot see but a glimps of the track. We had 2 two day tickets comped with our suites but I could not let others in my group go to one of the race days or even practices unless I was one attending so 2 people would be left out each day along with the thought of the crazy crowds which I hate I had decided to cancel the entire trip.

Realistically this is to to manage the extremely limited tarmac space at all 3 of these airports. I'm sure Boulder City will be full as well.

Jean airport has decent runways and a decent tie down, I know they have AV100LL, not sure if they have JetA there.

As for the the pedestrian bridges, i get them blocking those, if they didn't the would 100% be stuffed with people loitering to watch (even if they paid) causing a massive egress issue for people trying to move between properties. at every F1 track that has an overhead pedestrian bridge they cover the bridges for the same reason, Even at COTA in Austin. The bridge is there to get in and out of the infield area, not to loiter and watch from.

When i was at Austin in 2019 there was about a 6' area at the top of the stairs you could watch turns 4-5-6 from, people standing there to get a glimpse clogged all traffic from being able to transit the bridge, i think they fully block it now.

There are weight constraints on the bridges too. They weren't designed to hold the density of wall to wall people.

Yeah I go to, and have been to, quite a lot of races over the years. Literally every pedestrian bridge is completely blocked at every race, for the reasons you mention.

Hmmm those times look like a diff time zone.

Everything I’ve seen has the practices etc starting @ 8:30om / second event of the night @12 - gates open at 6pm local each day. The actual race will be at 10pm Sat night.

Or maybe the daylight saving thing just changed?

The times I’m listing below are for California?

They aimed for the sky with prices and couldn't fill up.

The prices have been plummeting for rooms and tickets over the last month.

I'd be bummed if i forked out early for reservations only to find the guy in the room next to you only paid 1/4 the price.

We switched tickets to the Google West Harmon zone because we can walk from our hotel. Staying at the Vdara. Got a two bedroom suite comped. I’m excited.

Our seats are close to the pit and the finish line.
