We live in an area somewhat rural where almost every month some kind of switching shut and power off to about 1500 of us for no apparent reason then it comes back on unexpectedly. In the meantime I’ve already switched off and unplugged. Anything I have that I think might get spiked, but I’m getting really tired of it.

I wonder if it could possibly be the wind upstream that creates the outage🤔 kind of like the guys on my team that got shut off today. Their neighborhood is UG and their is no wind where they live.

Now don’t get me wrong, saying it’s off for 4 days is wild. Warning that it could be on and off for the next 4 days is a bit easier to comprehend.

If you are in an area often affected by PSPS and you don’t have a generator you are setting yourself up for a rough time.

I get your frustration but when everyone wants to blame them and sce and sue for every fire.
Can’t really blame them Can you. 🤷
Don't give a fuck, that's the cost of the business they are in, maintain the equipment or deal with the lawsuits and blame game. Same winds in the 80's and 90's but no fires caused by the utilities.

Well I guess when it’s easier to just blame someone who has funds. So be it.
I’ll stand by my comment. Basically which is fuck you ( not you personally 4W) if you want to sue me or my company. I’ll just shut it off and you can’t blame me.
Not every fire is caused by a utility but they sure blame them for every one. Just sayin.

We are at the 15 and the 60 blowing decent. Enough to hear it when it gusts.

Maybe a dumb question about home generators: They would be unused for many months at a time, so fuel would go bad. Do you guys just run Stabil and hope the fuel stays good enough to burn, or keep it drained with a rotating supply of fuel that feeds your vehicles or something when it doesn't go into the generator soon enough?

You're right, they do because the politicians don't want the public to know that homeless are the ones starting a good chunk of these fires

The standby types, like the Generac deals, run natural gas or propane. For a standard gasoline deal, I think I would probably keep the tank stored full of non-ethonol gas, or av gas. Then feed it with normal gas, but store again with good stuff.

4 days is a bunch of fuel though:(

Not trying to be argumentative but.
Do you think there’s connection to the pricing and lack of merit lawsuits.
I mean. They have to cover it some how.

Yesterday we got a text from tesla. Not the cars, the battery tesla.
Have one with solar now
Text yesterday said we will not use battery last night to ensure battery is full tonight.
Meaning they controlled the output yesterday after sunset.
Right now I'm on grid, waiting for power outage which is coming for sure.
We should have roughly 3 days of power in the battery for circuits connected for this exact event.
I was complaining about having the battery (cause I'm miserable you know,)
Tonight I'm ok with it.
I also now have a power boost f150. Full tank, it can run for a long time plugged into house.
Wind is just getting going. Did a lap around securing for the 2nd time

I got a warning earlier from T-Mobile that service would be affected due to the winds, and right now Agoura hills area it is blowing big time.

I see it's 36 miles per hour in Camarillo I bet it's more here.

I get what your saying, but I guess the other side to it is, if you’re gonna be in the business and taking the risk, you mitigate that risk by other preventative means rather than shutting down the service( a service that is a lifeline to everyday function) that you are raping people for, more so than any other part of the country

I have three Honda generators because I live in a high fire danger area. No gas stored in the generators and the carbs are run dry after use. I have ethanol free fuel on hand for my yard equipment that I can use immediately, and I will get regular fuel from a gas station if I am going to be running them for more than a day. As long as you drain the tanks and carb when you are done, the ethanol does not matter.

Our monthly has been zero $$$.
Mid summer, 2 ac and pool it was about $30.
If power goes out it be interesting to see the process
Kitchen circuit. Wifi circuit, heater circuit (propane) and some random outlets are on the battery back up.
Run cords from truck if we need more, tv maybe.

I guess I feel they do their best to mitigate the risk. It’s never going to be enough and they will be at fault. So until something changes. (Like all of Cali) You’re gonna always be getting raped in the cost.

SCV/castaic. And basically no wind at all as of now.

Edit. 10 minutes later.
Well I jinxed it. Some small gust just started

Funny you think we don’t maintain things. Wonder if you got that sound bite from main stream media.

I planned $19,000,000 of upgrades alone this year. There are 10 guys like me on my Team. There are 4 Teams like mine.
So to say we don’t maintain anything is rather ignorant.

But hey it’s your pitch fork.

Oh and that is my slowest year yet lol.

SoCal Edison's words, it's been a few years but they are the ones that said it, not a reporter, edison. I guess you're employer is ignorant 😉

Malibu is on fire, Malibu was a priority and one of the first areas to get the insulated power lines. Is this Edison's fault

This is where it started

Being west of you, I'd noticed that your PSPS started yesterday evening well in advance of much wind. With PSPS becoming an expected Santa Ana seasonal event for Ramona and many other east county areas, why aren't your neighbors better prepared ?
Glad they got that fire in Highland Valley that started around 4AM rapidly controlled, that could have been a real scorcher for Poway and maybe even us up here by Lake Hodges.
Hopefully this event is shorted lived and there's no news to make any headlines by the time it's over. Also hope they get your lights back on soon !!!
