Extreme skateboarding- Las Flores Canyon

Took a sightseeing drive in the Malibu canyons yesterday. Going up the steep twisty part of Las Flores Canyon Road, minding my own business and encountered 8 dudes skateboarding down the road, full tuck, in the middle of the day, with traffic. Never seen that before.

I think it’s nuts seeing bicycles doing it, but SKATEBOARDING?? That’s a whole new level of extreme risk taking. Steep, sharp turns, unforgiving drop offs, not to mention cars and trucks.

I grew up at the corner of schueren, Piuma/Rambla Pacifico. Guys would absolutely fly on boards.

Meanwhile crotch rockets are doing every bit of 100+ lol.

When I was in highschool I was bombing the hill from my house down to the skatepark. It was getting dark and I probably had too much to drink but I was hauling ass down the hill. My buddy Nick came up behind me in his car and started honking and flashing his brights to mess with me. I didn’t know it was Nick so I tried to move to the side to let him pass. I got caught in the gutter between the black top and the curb. I ate shit bad. I remember cart wheeling and trying to protect my head. I was drunk so I rolled it out pretty good but was going too fast so got some gnarly road rash. Nick pulled over and drove me to the hospital. Scars I’ll always have to remind me

I could never understand why the didn’t put an ambulance at camp 8. We’d call them all the time because 911 through the highway patrol took forever. But Camp 8 seemed to dispatch the right people quickly.

They now have a McCormick unit at one of the condos at the bottom of Las Flores.

meh....I grew up in La Costa. Shorts and vans slip ons. We didn't go 80mph but at 40 the trail of skin on asphalt was daily.

I could never understand why the didn’t put an ambulance at camp 8. We’d call them all the time because 911 through the highway patrol took forever. But Camp 8 seemed to dispatch the right people quickly.

They now have a McCormick unit at one of the condos at the bottom of Las Flores.

It's a numbers thing, being a private ambulance co. they don't/can't put a staffed rig that would average 1 call a week (summer months would be more), that area was a 15min response time for us. Most of 72's (Decker/Encinal) area was a 20min response, 99's was also a 20min.

We got a move up to Malibu and as we were walking out the door our pagers went off with a call for an accident at Leo Carrillo, we get 20min from Malibu not Chesebro X Agoura Rd. It was my day to drive, we took off and as we turned onto Kanan a CHP unit set in behind me, we made it in 23min, the chippy came up to me and said "That was some serious driving" with a pat on the shoulder.

Oh and BTW, we also saw one of those crotch rocketeers splayed out on the side of one of the canyon roads on this trip, ambulances on scene. Must be an every day occurrence up there
